Does anyone else feel like the "next big thing" cycle is moving at an insane speed now? It feels like every time I check the sports news, some kid who hasn't even hit his prime yet is already being linked to three or four of the biggest giants in the world.
I remember back in the day, you'd see a player dominate a league for a few seasons before the massive clubs even started sniffing around. Now, it feels like the moment a youngster shows a bit of technical proficiency or physical presence, the scouts from the heavyweights are already circling like sharks. It’s almost hard to watch because you know they're going to be tossed into a high-pressure environment before they've even figured out who they are as players.
I get that it's a business and these clubs need to secure talent early, but part of me misses the era where players actually grew up in their clubs a bit more. Is this just the natural evolution of the modern game, or are we just seeing a massive inflation in how much weight is given to "potential" over actual proven consistency?
