I was watching some old highlights from a few years ago last night, and it really hit me how many "can't-miss" prospects completely vanish after their first real taste of the big leagues. It feels like every single season we get hyped up about a new generational talent, only to see them hit a wall once the honeymoon phase ends.

In my opinion, the jump from being a standout star to actually being a reliable veteran is much harder than people realize. It’s one thing to dominate when you're the most gifted athlete on the field, but it's another thing entirely to handle the grind once the league actually starts scouting your every weakness. You see these guys come in with all the hype, and then suddenly, by their second or third year, the cracks start showing.

I don't think it's always a lack of talent; I think it's often just the mental toll of realizing you aren't invincible anymore. Once the film starts coming back on you, the pressure changes.

Do you guys think the "sophomore slump" is an inevitable part of the learning curve, or is it usually just a sign that the hype was overstated from the start?
