The Stand by Stephen King

Has anyone actually sat down to watch this yet?
What are your thoughts on it?
Does anyone happen to own this on DVD and feel inclined to share a copy? 🙂

I watched it quite some time ago, but it certainly left a lasting impression on me.
I would love to revisit it... but I am at a loss as to where to find it. 😢

hm, I started this series, watched the first episode, and gave up after the second. It all feels a bit ridiculous to me—from the casting choices to the devil wearing denim and long, curly hair. 🤣 🤣

I personally dig it (though obviously, the book crushes the SK adaptation), but I've always been a total sucker for King, so I guess it’s no surprise... Besides, we've got someone here going by "rapidviper54," so they ought to be able to shed some more light on this 😉

It’s a decent little miniseries, and the cast actually does a solid job.
As for the DVD release, I can't say for sure, but I don't recall seeing this one on disc. 😕

Toward the end of last year, I went on this massive binge downloading King movies, so I couldn't help myself with this one either... Honestly, I think The Stand is King's best work, hands down. I actually enjoyed every single bit of those 1,500 pages.
I must have watched the mini-series at least ten times back in the 90s during my high school years, and every single day I found myself wishing something like that could actually happen in real life. 🙂

I loved that mini-series back when it first aired on PBS—it was great. Re-watching it about a year ago? A bit silly, honestly. Still, Randall Flagg (played by Jamey Sheridan) remains the most powerful villain ever put on screen. In my book, "The Stand" and "Storm of the Century" are the best SK adaptations out there.

Since I know there are some SK fans lurking here, I wonder if you caught the news: King is reportedly in talks with J. J. Abrams (the mind behind Lost, Alias, Mission: Impossible III, and the new Star Trek film) to bring Dark Tower to the big screen. We’re talking full-scale cinema, not some low-budget mini-series...

For me, it’s "Misery", "Christina", and "Children of the Corn" (though I know 😳), but especially "The Shining" and "The Shawshank Redemption" (if you can even call those SK adaptations). "Desperation" also pleasantly surprised me 👍

To be honest, his references aren't exactly off base 😳
I'd be happy to see Dark Tower, even though I haven't worked my way through all the books yet, but what actually excites me more is what's coming for The Talisman. It's an excellent book; I just hope they don't botch it.

I saw it ages ago, but man, it really stuck with me...
I’d love to give it another spin... just don't know where to find it... 😢

I caught it a few days back and thought it was pretty solid.

Honestly, I feel like Mick Garris really missed the mark with that mini-series. While the first two episodes manage to hold your attention somewhat, those final two episodes are just a total letdown. To be fair, the book itself wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but this project definitely deserved a much more honest, high-quality remake.

From what I've gathered, Rose Madder is slated for 2014, but I haven't seen anything on the radar for Insomnia... which, honestly, isn't a huge loss in my book since I've always found that one to be a pretty weak entry in King's bibliography.

Neither of those two books really blew me away—I mean, Rose Madder was alright, I guess—but after seeing how they completely butchered Bag of Bones, I’m not feeling too optimistic about any of these upcoming adaptations...

By the way, you could really look at The Stand as a sort of spiritual successor or an expanded version of King's short story, Night Surf...

There's actually a little movie based on that short story too.

Night Surf (2002)

An absolutely top-tier film—or mini-series, really—and honestly, it feels incredibly relevant to what we're seeing in America today.

I actually really enjoyed that mini-series back in '94. It was such a classic.

I am seriously counting down the days until the new The Stand comes out.
