Thyroid issues and goiters

So, I just got diagnosed with a goiter—apparently, there are two nodules in my thyroid now too. My doctor mentioned there isn’t really a "cure" for the swelling itself and that it tends to grow as the years go by. Has anyone else here dealt with this kind of thing? Any advice on how people usually manage it?
Also, I was wondering about wait times for nuclear medicine appointments—is the backlog pretty bad? And does anyone know a good private clinic where I could get those nodules biopsied without being totally ripped off?

I know, but the discussions over there have drifted into every possible direction—right now, I'm just stuck dealing with this goiter issue.
I really don't want to end up looking like a turkey 😢 and my doctor wasn't exactly comforting—he mentioned it tends to grow as you get older. What do you think, rustycrane60—should I just have them remove the thyroid altogether? div>

Oh, you don't need to worry about that!
Mine looks exactly the same as it always has—it actually started growing back in my early teens.
I'm 43 now, but I noticed the changes when I was around 14 or 16, if I remember correctly.
So please, try not to stress out too much or panic. Just keep up with your regular checkups and everything will be fine.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking—just getting the thyroid removed. I've been dealing with this goiter for about two years now, and back then it was only like 4 mm... so it doesn't really jump out at you unless you're staring intensely in the mirror or maybe noticing a tiny movement when swallowing...

But then again, my cousin has been struggling with a goiter since she was thirteen, and even though she's only 32 now, her neck is super, super swollen... like, the whole lower part of her neck is visibly enlarged... and it's pretty obvious, even though her hormone levels are actually fine and the doctors aren't recommending surgery for her yet...

I’m a bit stuck on one thing—why is it that when a goiter starts swelling, even if your hormone levels are technically fine, doctors still push for removing the thyroid?
Sure, I get that you'll be on hormone replacement therapy for the rest of your life, but I can't help but feel like this approach might actually do more harm than good. What do you all think?

I’d say just go ahead and book an appointment with an endocrinologist to get all those questions cleared up once and for all!
It’s honestly not quite as easy as you're making it out to be.
