I've heard thyroid issues can trigger depression. I want to know which symptoms signal an irregular thyroid before it turns into a chronic condition.
thanks

tnx

Hey, just a heads up—you’ve actually got two other threads going about thyroid issues (the newer ones, anyway), and honestly, the one about hypothyroidism is pretty solid if you want some info.

There are tons of different symptoms because the thyroid basically acts like the body's master controller for everything—but at the end of the day, you really need to get bloodwork done and maybe even an ultrasound if the doctor thinks it's necessary.

You’ve gotta get an ultrasound even if you aren't feeling it, because honestly, your hormones can look totally fine while your kidneys are actually struggling behind the scenes.

Look, I wanted to say the same thing without sounding like a know-it-all at the end, but I’m never quite sure if my doctor is just being overly cautious—and since I'm definitely not a medical professional, I can't exactly go around preaching😉

What specific symptoms justify asking a doctor for referrals to diagnostic tests?

wannabenot, honestly, just feeling mentally drained or anxious is enough reason to suspect your thyroid and go get checked out.

fadedhound69 said:At first, I felt this constant choking sensation and was totally convinced it was just anxiety. Then, I ran into my doctor at a local Starbucks and he actually noticed my thyroid looked swollen! I went in for hormone tests and everything came back "normal," even though I had all the classic signs of inflammation and hyperthyroidism. My endocrinologist insisted nothing was wrong, even after an ultrasound. Luckily, I kept those records because today, every specialist who looks at that ultrasound agrees it was definitely inflammation. It took another three or four years of dealing with hypothyroidism and high TSH before I finally got a real diagnosis. Once I switched doctors, they caught it: Hashimoto's. Seriously, if you think something's off, find a GREAT endocrinologist or radiologist and demand an ultrasound.
