Tombstone epitaph ideas?

Does anyone actually know what the going rate is for engraving a name on a headstone these days? Is it charged by the letter, or is there some other way they calculate the cost?

The reason the current monument costs so much more is because every single letter has to be hand-carved manually.
But for the upcoming one? We're going full automated with machine engraving.

The total shouldn't exceed $8.25 per letter or digit. Generally, the costs for plate removal, engraving, producing and applying photo-ceramics, and installing the plate should stay under $2,000.
