Since I’m still pretty new here, I’m trying my best to get the hang of how everything works—but there’s one thing that’s tripping me up a bit, so I was hoping someone could maybe help clear things up for me...

I started a thread specifically about hair salons in a certain city, but then the thread got moved elsewhere immediately.

The issue is—and this is why I wanted to make a separate topic in the first place—is that the main thread I was moved into contains posts covering the entire US. A lot of those posts go back several years, so trying to find what I need in there feels a little overwhelming. I mean, I’d have to sift through maybe a hundred pages just to try and track down names related to one specific city, which seems kind of impossible.

So, my question is basically this—is there any way to start a similar thread without it getting merged into a larger one? And if it does stay merged, is there some trick to more easily following replies that are actually meant for my specific post?

That just depends on which moderator is running that specific subforum. Your best bet is to send a private message to one of them and ask directly.

If there are several different conversations happening at once in that thread, it might be a mess. The main thing is that everyone needs to use quotes—like I'm doing right now—so people reading can actually tell who is talking to whom. You only skip the quote if you're replying to the very last post in the thread.

Fine. But if the moderator doesn't get back to your DM, just try reaching out to another mod on that subforum. Some of them are practically ghosts and rarely check their messages.

I started a thread called "Sit, boy!" over on Reddit—and yeah, I know it belongs there—but now I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where it got moved to??
