What are your expectations for the movie?

I’m actually hoping it turns out well, even if I'm about 90% sure it won't.🙂

Since you decided to kick off a thread about the new movie, perhaps you could make an effort to explain the premise to those of us who aren't die-hard fans or haven't seen Transformers? A few stills from the upcoming film wouldn't hurt, nor would a brief synopsis of the plot. ☕

here it is...
The plot takes place here on Earth during the final tournament. Goku has to stop the villainous Piccolo from seizing control of the world. Naturally, he can pull it off if he wins the tournament and becomes the strongest man alive. To make things interesting, he isn't human; he's an Alien from another planet. Our protagonist, Goku, is also from out of this world. He originally arrived as an infant with orders to destroy the planet on behalf of the notorious Frieza—who doesn't actually show up in this film—but after falling on his head one day, he turned good. As he grew up, he met various people, fought in tournaments, and realized just how much power he truly possessed. By age 18, he's back for the final showdown against Piccolo, an Alien with superhuman strength who intends to wipe us all out. The movie focuses on that struggle. And since this is Transformers, we have those legendary items called the Dragon Balls; collect all seven and summon a dragon to grant you one wish...
The story picks up after the tournament when warriors like Goku arrive from space to see why Earth hasn't been destroyed yet. Goku has to train intensely to keep up with their massive power levels. Eventually, he dies alongside his brother following a targeted attack from Piccolo. However, Piccolo decides not to destroy the world because he didn't win the fight fairly—everyone was busy saving lives. Then, Vegeta and Nappa show up, possessing ten times the strength of Goku's brother, whom they couldn't even touch...

It has potential, I suppose, but the trailers strike me as being far too somber. It appears they intend to bypass the comedic essence of Goku’s personality, much less the sexual fantasies of his mentor. 😁

Look, I’ll admit I'm a fanatic. Goku was honestly hilarious back in the day. I remember when he first met Bulma; he just started slapping at her underwear because he didn't get it. Then he pulls them off and just screams "noooooo baaaaallllllllsssss" LOL LOL LOL

LOL LOL LOL, man, I remember that part. It was such a mess when they couldn't even tell who was male or female, so they had to go checking their junk just to figure it out. What a total disaster.🙏🙏🙏And honestly, his old coach is probably even more unhinged than he is. I mean, if that movie had actually been any good, I’d probably be hoping for a sequel or something, since it’s easily one of the best series I’ve ever watched.

Well, I have watched every single installment of Dragon Ball live as well. But then again, not everyone is quite so dedicated.

Hmm... Still, the boy playing Goku possesses a certain level of naivety regarding... well, everything. Much like the actual Goku. 😁

He doesn't quite look the part to me, but whatever. I’ll probably end up liking Vegeta better anyway. At least I get to meet a girl who actually grew up watching Dragon Ball. 🙂

Men, did you actually give us the plot for the series or the movie?
Does this even sound like the show? In my experience, movies rarely stick to the original storyline. Besides, this looks more like a Dragonball Z plot summary than one based on Dragonball.

This isn't actually a movie based on Dragonball Z. You can see that just by watching a single episode from each story arc. According to this excerpt from the manga article on Wikipedia:

The movie feels like it's just Piccolo vs. Goku to me. Then there's the next one (I heard they're planning three), likely Vegeta and Goku, and finally some god knows what—probably Frieza, because anything after that gets ridiculous, like the whole universe just blowing up, especially in GT.

By the way... they only made GT because fans wanted a "sequel," and then they just messed it up. Even the ending was pathetic; Goku merges with the Dragon Balls and leaves with the dragon? Like, wtf...

Honestly, I think it could have actually worked as a decent movie if they had just focused on Goku and the rest of the gang taking on Boo. If they’d leaned into a darker, more gritty atmosphere, it might have been something special.

Honestly, GT just doesn't hold a candle to the rest. When I really sit down and weigh my options, I’d have to say DBZ is my absolute favorite—it is, without question, the gold standard.

From what I have gathered, the film will focus on Goku vs Piccolo, though likely only during the opening act. I am currently unable to locate the specific page to provide a direct quote—this internet connection is being particularly stubborn—but I am fairly certain I read somewhere that Piccolo undergoes a change of heart during this movie. If he shifts his allegiance, one has to wonder: who exactly would be left for them to fight? 🤷

My inbox is wide open, so feel free to send anything my way. I’ve watched just about everything in the anime world, but lately, I’ve been revisiting some old favorites while attempting to make headway through Naruto. Between work and everything else on my plate, finding the time is proving to be quite the challenge.

I grew up on Dragon Ball, so I’m pretty damn sure the movie is going to be solid😉

I am well aware of what happens in every DBu, but my comment was regarding the earlier plot summary of the film, which isn't Dragon Ball, it's DBZ. DBZ begins with the duel between Goku vs Piccolo, followed by the arrival of the other Sayanci.

I agree, Vegeta is easily my favorite character in all of Dragon Ball🙂
but keep in mind...
the original Japanese version has 291 episodes, while GT only has 64.🙂
