Topic: Do you actually believe in Amanda Knox's innocence? Beyond that, looking at all these other discussions regarding politics where people seem to get a perverse thrill out of dissecting true crime—thefts, murders, and every other depraved criminal detail—I suggest we finally launch what actually drives newsstand sales in America. Let’s open a dedicated true crime subforum.

I suspect it will generate a massive amount of engagement.

As the creator of this topic, I need to set the record straight—I’m absolutely denying the claim that this was opened for the reasons Kevin Gonzalez79 is implying.
The topic is open because of the political context and how we look at the concept of "equality" when dealing with specific nations, power players, and their influence on the world—which makes it fit perfectly right where it is, under the World lifestyle section.

It isn't just about this one topic, but many others. (By the way, this specific case doesn't actually involve people in power; it simply received massive media coverage. I don't see how it qualifies as politics, but because there isn't enough true crime coverage, things like this end up drifting into Politics...)

But surely, given all these heavy subforums, there should still be room for true crime, which is arguably the most read section in any American newspaper.

That’s actually a pretty interesting idea.
Where would a subforum like this even fit?
"Lifestyle"?

If you look at the major US newspapers lately, where is the true crime section? It's right there on the front page.🙂 I would personally slot it somewhere between politics and legal affairs.

When you examine the comment sections on true crime news stories, there are millions of them. It is quite obvious that people have a massive appetite for debating who did what to whom, thefts, assaults, and so on.

Here is this morning's briefing on the top three stories from the true crime section... a young woman stabbed in downtown Chicago, a shooting at a high school dormitory, and the trial proceedings currently unfolding in Amsterdam...

Then what’s even the point of having a "political insider" subforum?

A crime of passion, sexual assault, kidnapping, or a mafia hit over unpaid debts—none of that qualifies as being particularly close to politics...

Exactly.
All of those behaviors actually fall under certain laws that politicians tend to tweak whenever it suits their interests.
To be honest, I find myself dumping all those kinds of questions right into the middle of the debate.

Well, fine then. I'm sure that would certainly boost your revenue, but when you put it that way, then nothing...

Look, we’re just talking shop here—I'm just sharing how I've been handling things lately.

The board might eventually decide to greenlight a dedicated true crime subforum if enough people make a solid case for it.

It would alleviate the burden on our political insiders and legal experts, while finally providing space for specific topics that have previously lacked a proper venue.

I’d suggest something similar.
I was thinking we could have a dedicated thread for commenting on current events.
Some things just don't fit under Politics or the chicken coop. 😁

It’s just that sometimes, I guess, it isn't clear which thread a specific news item belongs in.
So we end up hunting for a category that fits... which isn't always easy, maybe.

That’s why I think we need a single thread where we can discuss current affairs and press articles. Regardless of the topic. 😉

Of course, those topics or sections could be subdivided within the thread—like this or that. 🤷

I'm down with opening this PDF, but let's not drag politics into it because that’s just not relevant here. It belongs under 'lifestyle' instead.

Pointless ☕

The topic "Do you believe Amanda Knox is innocent?" is fundamentally about law and forensics. But at the same time, it’s tied directly to politics and the media, since both played massive roles in how that trial unfolded. If we actually had a dedicated true crime subforum, it would just give those vultures a place to feed on pretentious sensationalism and other people's tragedies.

I honestly don't get why anyone is complaining about where this topic is placed... if it were buried under the music page, I'd understand, but the way things are, I can only conclude that some people have such incredibly boring, empty lives that they spend their time suggesting absolute garbage.

I support the proposal for a new PDF. Perhaps this might fall under "political insider," but that section is such a cluttered mess of a million different topics that it’s impossible to navigate. If we had a dedicated "true crime" PDF, everyone would immediately understand the content, and engagement would skyrocket. People don't even bother reading "political insider" because the title is ridiculous and fails to reflect what actually belongs there.
