Updating my statement

It isn’t exactly uncommon to hear stories about someone changing their story once they find themselves standing in front of a judge... though it does make one wonder—isn't shifting your testimony essentially just lying by another name? I mean, if you provide two different versions of events, and one of them is clearly untrue, then we are back at square one... and isn't perjury actually a serious felony in this country?!

I mean, look, the defendant can play whatever games they want during their defense—they can spin stories, lie through their teeth, whatever helps them sleep at night—but a witness? A witness is on the hook for the truth, plain and simple.
