Urgent: Need help with VMware!

I'm trying to install Windows 7 (x64), but I'm having a hard time getting certain drivers to work—specifically for my iPhone 6 and a Umax AstraSlim SE scanner (which is currently running on 🙂). Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this using VMware? Thanks in advance!

Not a chance. Look, VMware is just a virtualization tool. It isn't some magic wand that can fix your driver issues if they actually exist in the first place.

Some guy on a forum mentioned it's doable; apparently, he fixed his issue that way.

Maybe try downloading the drivers meant for Vista or XP and run them through Compatibility mode. 🙂

I've tried both ways, but nothing works. It basically gave me the runaround all day yesterday. If anyone actually has a foolproof method that worked for them, please let me know—because I've already wasted my time on all these standard fixes. Thanks!

So, it probably won't work unless you try this. Open the file you downloaded—if it’s sitting in a zip or rar folder, just unzip it directly onto your hard drive first. Find the specific driver you're trying to install (.exe file), right-click it, and go to Properties. From there, hit Compatibility, then Compatibility mode. You'll want to check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and then pick either Windows Vista or XP from the dropdown menu. Just click XP > Apply, hit OK, and that should be about it.

I tried running it about ten times yesterday, but honestly, there's just no way it's working. I guess there might be some other way to do this, maybe using Windows Virtual PC or something else?

Regarding that Samsung J700 issue, just install Samsung PCStudio. It handles the drivers automatically. Problem solved.
Regarding the Scanner, it would be helpful if you could provide the exact model number.

Regarding the Samsung J700, I tried what you suggested, but the driver keeps throwing an error and won't recognize the device no matter what I do. As for the scanner, it's a UMAX AstraSlim SE.

My UMAX AstraSlim SE is an absolute disaster.

There has to be a model number somewhere. Seriously, this Scanner is useless... damn it.

Look, before you even think about installing a new OS, you really ought to check if that software is even compatible with the gear you've got sitting on your desk... and in your case, it just isn't. Don't beat your head against a wall trying to make the impossible happen.

Trying to hook up a USB device through a virtual machine is a total headache and usually ends up being a mess anyway, so I'd steer clear of using virtualization for that kind of thing. (VirtualBox is notoriously buggy when it comes to handling USB stuff; honestly, during the last VPC setup I messed with, it wasn't even an option).

Your best bet? Either swap out the hardware for something that actually works with it, or just stick to an operating system that supports what you have.

Man, I’m just hearing all this nonsense about buying a new phone or a scanner, plus whatever you're doing with swapping components in your PC. Thanks, guys, but I don't get it. I guess I'll just stick with Windows XP since it actually works, at least until these geniuses figure out the driver issues on Windows 7. Or maybe I'll just wait until I run into an actual pro who can help me, because this is honestly pointless. Thanks anyway! Peace!
