USB issues

So, I'm working with an ASUS Prime motherboard, Windows 10, and an EVGA case.
On the front of my rig, I've got two standard USB ports and one USB 3.0 port.
Whenever I plug any kind of USB device into either of those two USB 2.0 ports, I get this error: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

The other port works just fine, though! I've tried googling for a fix, but honestly, none of the methods I've found seem to help at all—and my drivers are already up to date, according to the system.
I'm thinking the issue might be with port 001 hub003.

You need to crack the case open and actually check where everything is plugged in. And be careful—if you force those connectors the wrong way, you could easily fry something... Just stick to the motherboard manual.

I guess I'll just leave that part to the real pros—I'm definitely not quite at that level yet! 🙂.
Basically, looking at things now, it seems like my mouse is plugged into port 1, but it’s showing up as hub 006. Maybe that's where the trouble is coming from?

Those front-panel USB ports can be pretty flimsy sometimes—they tend to just quit on you without warning. I guess the only way to be absolutely sure is to pop the case open and check the connectors yourself.
