Vaginal septum issues

So, I just had a transvaginal ultrasound and found out I have what’s called a vaginal septum. It’s right down the middle of my vagina, and luckily it's open, so I don't have any issues with blood pooling during my period. My gynecologist told me this happens way back during embryonic development and might actually cause some complications during childbirth. She also sent me for more tests because my uterus is acting a little "weird" too—apparently, it’s shaped a bit like a unicorn horn. 😁
Has anyone else dealt with this stuff? Please reach out—did you end up going through with surgery, and if so, how was the recovery? I'm not even planning on getting pregnant anytime soon, and honestly, everything feels totally fine during sex, too. My doctor just warned me to stay away from tampons since they could easily get stuck against the septum.
It’s honestly wild to me because before this appointment, I saw two different OBGYNs (one was this really high-end private specialist in Savannah) and neither one of them even mentioned the septum, even though you can literally feel it during a standard finger exam! 😠

Oh, I almost forgot—I actually went to see Dr. Trump over on Massachusetts Ave in Washington, D.C. She was seriously amazing; she even pulled out medical textbooks to show me exactly what my vagina and uterus look like. She was so helpful and walked me through everything. It’s not like it’s some terrifying diagnosis or anything, but I was still pretty caught off guard by it all, especially since those other doctors were so careless that I had no clue I even had this issue!

Here’s my story: a few years back, I’m at a checkup with Dr. U.M. at the Mercy Hospital. I’m just lying there, totally relaxed, when the doctor and nurse start staring at the monitor, talking about some "septum." I immediately freak out... until the nurse checks my charts and tells the doctor, "Wait, she's already had kids," so they take another look. Then comes the explanation: apparently, I have a uterine septum, but since there was a tiny 2-3 mm gap, the sperm were clever enough to find their way through, which is why I got pregnant easily (and had zero issues during delivery). They told me it doesn't guarantee things will be smooth for a future pregnancy and that usually, it requires surgery... stuff like that.

Just a heads-up, this all happened right when Curry was handing out mass diagnoses regarding septums—do a little Google search on that...😁, especially concerning private practices...
After that, I went to see two different specialists in private practice. Both of them were completely unfazed by the diagnosis and told me to stop panicking. Turns out they were right, and my second pregnancy went perfectly fine.

Thanks so much! My aunt actually pointed me toward this Dr. Vance guy who splits his time between the Mayo Clinic and his own private practice. She was pretty adamant that I need to get this taken care of before the baby arrives. Honestly, my uterus seems totally fine, but it’s that vaginal septum that's the issue—it could cause some serious complications during delivery if I don't end up having a C-section.

If there’s an actual MD lurking on this sub, I would be seriously grateful if you could jump in and give me the lowdown on this surgery. Like, how much does it actually hurt? And are we talking local numbing or am I going under full anesthesia...?
Honestly, I have a massive phobia of doctors and scalpels—it’s a total nightmare for me. When my wife told me that this vaginal septum really needs to be surgically removed, I practically felt like I was going to pass out from the sheer anxiety... Thanks so much for any help!

Dr. Vrcici is an excellent physician. He’s relatively young and just a very easygoing person to talk to about any concerns you have. For his private practice, he's located over on V. Lisinski street in the historic district, but he likely sees patients at the Mayo Clinic too, so he can coordinate everything for you. Honestly, your best bet is to run all the specifics by him directly. Good luck!🙂
