Visiting a psychiatrist

Can anyone recommend a decent psychiatrist and let me know what the going rate is for private sessions? I’m looking at both private practice and someone covered by insurance, though honestly, I’d much prefer a private specialist... please, just drop your suggestions in the comments because I need this done ASAP...

If I were in your shoes, I’d suggest heading over to the Psychiatric Clinic at Mayo Clinic... they have both psychiatrists and psychologists on staff, and their team is truly top-tier.

I’m going to have to disagree with the folks over at Rebro—I was there years ago.
I walked in, and within literally 30 seconds, I was walking right back out with a prescription for meds, and the guy didn't even realize what had just happened.😵

I suspect things have shifted quite a bit since then. Nowadays, they have plenty of professionals in Psychology on staff who actually guide the psychiatrists toward the idea that pills aren't always the only way to fix the problem...

In my experience, Rebro is a total disaster. Then again, I might have just had terrible luck hitting three psychiatrists—make that five if you count the ones who basically just hand out prescriptions and kick you out. Good grief.

I’d also suggest heading over to the Mayo Clinic. They have some seriously talented psychologists on staff there. The reality is, when you deal with psychiatrists, you often don't get much empathy. You see people stuck on medication for years without their doctor ever spending even thirty minutes actually talking to them—though, granted, there are wonderful exceptions. It’s partly because our healthcare system is just overwhelmed, and partly because they're trained as medical doctors rather than counselors. That’s where psychologists should step in, but here in the States, hospital hierarchies can be pretty rigid, and they're often expected to just focus on the diagnosis. Still, I recommend the Mayo Clinic if you need to get to the root of a serious issue. For ongoing support, there are plenty of organizations out there (like Tesa Psychological Center, the Psychological Help Hotline, or Modus...) where counseling is either free or much more affordable than other places.

I’ve got a solid recommendation for you—actually, I’ve been getting suggestions from several different people lately:

Lily Bastaić. She’s a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, and word on the street is she’s the absolute best in the city. She holds international certifications in all sorts of specialized therapies like family psychodynamics, Gestalt, and Imago. I know she was one of the early pioneers of anti-psychiatry movements here in the States, so I highly doubt she’ll jump straight to prescribing medication as her go-to fix. Just a heads-up though, she isn't cheap; from what I hear, sessions run about $300 or $117 per visit...

Has anyone here actually seen Dr. cosmicmaker92 before? I'm honestly terrified he's going to let me down...😢
