Hey there!

My sister is currently eight months pregnant—basically in those final two weeks—and she’s having a rough time. She can barely keep anything down without throwing up, she’s struggling to catch her breath, and the heartburn is constant.

Has anyone else here dealt with symptoms this intense? Everything was totally fine until suddenly 😕
To be honest, I haven't been able to find much solid info online, so I’m leaning toward just calling 911.

If this has been going on for two weeks, you really ought to consult a doctor.
My neighbor went through something quite similar. A petite woman with a large baby—she’s basically crowding everything inside, and the second she eats anything, the heartburn kicks in. I haven't heard of her actually vomiting, though I suppose that could happen given how little room there is left.
Now, please, get off the internet and call a physician immediately.

I had those same bouts of nausea during my third trimester last time, though I only ended up throwing up a few times...

I had a bout of acid reflux one night that really turned my stomach, but that was just a one-time thing...

Hello,

It seems a significant number of expectant mothers deal with vomiting in the late stages of pregnancy. It's a matter of physics: as the baby grows and the uterus expands, it puts pressure on the stomach and shifts the anatomical relationship between the stomach and the esophagus. This can lead to nausea, heartburn, acid reflux, and occasionally vomiting.

However, the fact that your sister is essentially vomiting everything she consumes is serious. My advice would be to have her contact her doctor immediately.

They need to rule out underlying causes for such frequent and excessive vomiting—for instance, something like gestational diabetes or other pregnancy-specific conditions.

It is also vital to check her hydration levels and electrolyte status if necessary; excessive vomiting can quickly lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances, among other complications.

She should definitely reach out to her physician.

Best regards, and wishing you and your sister all the best. 🙂

Thanks for all the input, everyone, and a huge shoutout to Felix specifically 😉. Luckily, things have finally settled down on my end, so we’re just hanging out and waiting for the big day when the little one finally arrives 🙂.
