Hi everyone—I’m reaching out because I’ve hit a bit of a wall and I’m hoping someone here might have a clue how to fix this.

So, here is the situation: I’m trying to start a YouTube live stream, right? But every single time I attempt to go live, I get this nagging notification popping up telling me that the webcam is inaccessible because another application is already using it.

It is incredibly frustrating! I feel like I’ve tried absolutely everything under the sun, but I just cannot figure out which elusive little app is hogging my camera.

Does anyone know—and please, if you have any ideas, let me know—how I can actually identify which specific program is camping out on my webcam? The strange thing is, there isn't even a single program visibly open on my desktop!

P.S.

The weirdest part? When I try to do a live stream over on Facebook, it works perfectly fine without any of these headaches.

Has anyone managed to crack this code yet?
Maybe this little discovery will shed some light on the situation.
I’m actually attempting to kick off a stream directly from my phone today—just to see if it works!
And wouldn't you know it? I can indeed start a stream using my mobile device
Perhaps there is a specific setting buried somewhere where I need to manually select which camera to utilize... but honestly, does anyone have any clue where on earth that toggle is located?

I’m actually attempting to get a stream up and running directly from my phone today—just to test the waters
And wouldn't you know it, I can successfully start the stream via mobile
Is it possible there's a specific setting buried somewhere where I need to manually select which camera to use? Does anyone have any clue where that toggle might be hiding?

I can’t seem to get this edit to work—so, naturally, I’m stuck starting an entirely new thread.

Well, I decided to try a little experiment to see if I could outsmart the system!

So, here is the situation: I have two different Google accounts, right? And when I attempt to start a stream using the account that *isn't* linked to my phone, everything works perfectly fine—no hiccups at all!

But—and here is the kicker—when I switch back to the account that actually matches my mobile device, that same annoying error message just keeps popping up over and over again!

Maybe try switching over to a different web browser, like Opera, just to see if that clears things up for you.

I actually gave it a whirl in Mozilla too, but... well, nothing changed! It’s the exact same headache.
I can't help but wonder if there's some sort of invisible tether linking my mobile account to the one on my PC? But honestly, how would that even work?

I’ve run into a bit of a snag with my webcam, and honestly—I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out how to fix it.

The culprit behind all this trouble seems to be Adobe Premiere
And here is the kicker: even when I don't have the software running, I keep getting this nagging error message claiming that another application is already hogging the camera feed!
I have been digging through the settings in Adobe—searching everywhere, really—but I just cannot find any option to block it from seizing control.

Now, I am fully aware that the "easy" fix would be to just uninstall the program entirely, but that isn't an option because I actually need it for my work.

So, does anyone happen to have a suggestion for a less painful way to deal with this software?

Is there a viable alternative?

If you head into the settings within Adobe, look for the webcam options and make sure it isn't set as the default device.

Oh, believe me—I’ve certainly looked into other options! But honestly? None of them strike that perfect balance of being incredibly intuitive yet still packing such a massive punch.
And besides—it’s not just about the software itself; I have poured countless hours—actually, years!—into mastering this specific program... and let me tell you, jumping headfirst into learning an entirely new suite from scratch isn't exactly a walk in the park, is it?

Now, is that something you know for a fact from experience, or is it just a hunch?
In the meantime—and I did this just to be absolutely certain—I went ahead and uninstalled Adobe Premiere entirely to see if it was indeed the culprit (honestly, I was even prepared to hunt down an older version of Adobe just to troubleshoot!). And wouldn't you know it? As soon as I wiped it from my system, the camera started working perfectly again!
I was actually starting to worry that the hardware itself had simply given up the ghost due to old age or something similar—but then again, if that were the case, it wouldn't work in any other programs, right?
I even ran some tests on those various online webcam testing sites, and everything looked fine there, and even my WhatsApp calls on the PC were working without a hitch.
The only real headache is when I try to stream to YouTube or Facebook—that's where the trouble starts.

So, I went ahead and did a fresh install of VideoStudio, but here’s the kicker—I’ve been digging through the settings and I absolutely cannot find any webcam options anywhere!
