edit: fairy tale characters, mythical creatures, or anything fantasy works too.

Once upon a time, I was Antonio Banderas
cut out his face at life-size
from some magazine someone handed me...
so there I am, strolling down Fifth Avenue
with a sailor and a clown,
my kids
when suddenly, a mermaid comes walking toward us
along with her buddy, the Statue of Liberty
oh man, Antonio, he is so damn hot
well, my Liberty isn't just hot,
she’s enough to drive you absolutely insane...
go on then, show yourself
if you actually have the guts, if you're really the man
if you're the real deal.
then I rip off my mask and it's just that same old story...
that classic American vibe where they all thought
you were some big shot or something
but Antonio Banderas to you
is nothing but a joke...

You people have lost your minds.
This whole virus thing isn't even worth a footnote,
this COVID nonsense.
Sports and concerts are canceled,
bars and restaurants are shuttered,
online classes are the norm,
half the students are sleeping through their webcams,
and there’s a masquerade ball happening everywhere.
The clowns at the CDC are putting on their daily show,
dropping new numbers every day like they’re playing the lottery,
while everyone else stays quiet behind their paper snout masks,
patiently waiting for their turn to get poked with the needle,
hoping they can dodge the illness,
hoping the economy stabilizes,
hoping for some new stimulus checks,
just so they can finally go back to parties.

Ladies and gentlemen, an unforgettable performance.
This is a true masquerade,
a puppet show, a theater of marionettes.
It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be part of this ball, watching directly from the stage,
yet sitting right at home without ever buying a ticket.

Be real actors; wear your masks convincingly.
Step onto the stage with confidence,
make the floorboards shake beneath you.

This is one massive, singular embarrassment.
There's no need to be nervous.
Don't worry, nobody's paying you a salary anyway,
and your acting isn't worth a dime.

Masks! Masks! Masks!
Let the stage tremble!
Let everyone who hasn't lost it yet finally snap.
Let the masquerade run wild in total fury!
