Western Digital NAS: Features and Setup Guide

Hey everyone, finally picked up this used Western Digital NAS equipped with 2x3TB WD Red drives..
Since I'm a total newbie here, I want to know what all the bells and whistles actually do. My main goal is backups—direct from my phone, my PC, whatever...

How should I set up these drives? I've read there are a few ways to go about it, but I definitely want the second drive to act as a backup (RAID?? Or just have it automatically mirror everything from the first one?) ..I also want to dump movies on there to watch on my Televisions, basically accessing a media folder.. I'm stuck on how to configure this—does the Television handle the playback, or does the NAS do the heavy lifting? Do I need some specific app or what? 🙂 I've rambled on, but I'm sure there's more I'll realize later..

Strictly speaking, that isn't a NAS because a NAS is just a network file server.
