Hey there.
So here’s what’s been killing me. Every single time I get out of bed, my head goes totally weird—sometimes everything just goes black for a second, or I feel this intense pressure right in my forehead. It makes me feel super unsteady, like I'm getting these lightheaded dizzy spells. I actually went to see my doctor about it, told them the whole story, and they basically brushed me off like it was nothing and sent me home. This has been going on for weeks now. I had bloodwork done back in November and everything came back perfect. Does anyone have any clue what could be causing this? 🤷

It’s a sensation that quite a few people end up experiencing.
Basically, what you're feeling is just a sudden drop in blood pressure because your blood vessels in the brain don't constrict quite fast enough to compensate. It is completely harmless, even if it feels a bit unsettling at the moment.
My best advice for managing it is simply to make sure you stand up slowly and steadily, and you might find that it eventually stops happening altogether, which was certainly the case for me.

It’s just like what was said in the post right above mine. Plus, if you're dealing with low blood pressure...

I'm with feralharbor89 on this one, it’s probably just blood pressure acting up. But honestly, if you’re just sitting on your ass all day, you're gonna wreck your neck, so you seriously need to start hitting the gym, go for a swim while you still can, or at least get a massage once in a while to fix that tension.

Thanks for the input, guys! 😉
My blood pressure stays pretty chill, usually sitting around 100/65 or maybe 110/70.
Sometimes when I stand up too fast, my heart starts racing a bit, so I'm just hoping it's nothing serious 🙂

If you want to do a bit of digging online, I'd suggest searching for the term "orthostatic hypotension."

It can actually be triggered by certain medications or other factors as well—it’s quite a nuanced thing, really.

By the way, if you happen to be fasting, please do consider stopping; your health is far too important for that.

coppergardener said:If you want to look something up, try searching for orthostatic hypotension.

It could also be a side effect from certain meds or whatever.

Also, if you’re starving yourself, just stop.

I looked it up, thanks, that actually sounds like what's going on.
And I'm definitely not starving myself, if anything my appetite is huge 😁
I'm 5'7" and only about 125 lbs.
About six months ago my iron was at a 4, then I got checked again two months back and it was up to 13, so who knows if my iron levels are tanking again already 🤷
Plus I've been dealing with some mild anxiety since this one thing happened, but I'm not on any meds for it... it's way better now anyway 🤷
The only pills I take are for my stomach because of gastritis

Drew Jones26, how old are you?
These kinds of symptoms are completely normal during puberty, and they can even show up in some people during their teen years.
The blood pressure readings you mentioned are a bit lower than average. When you combine that with a sudden drop in pressure upon standing, it likely explains those mild dizzy spells you're feeling.
When we stand up abruptly, our blood pressure typically dips before bouncing back up—often by more than 20mmHg—and our heart rate picks up speed. These are just the body's internal mechanisms working to maintain equilibrium; there's no reason to panic. Given the anxiety you mentioned, you might simply be hyper-aware of these sensations.
If it turns out you actually have low iron levels, that would certainly account for the dizziness, fatigue, and racing heart.
I hope you’ve been able to get some answers in the meantime and that you're starting to feel better.

Look, this kind of stuff is totally normal during puberty, and honestly, it happens to some people throughout their teens too.
The blood pressure numbers you're listing are actually a bit lower than average, and when you combine that with your BP dropping whenever you stand up, it’s probably why you’re getting those mild dizzy spells.
When we jump up suddenly, our blood pressure dips before it spikes back up—we're talking a range of more than 20mmHg—and your heart rate jumps to compensate. It's just the body trying to stay balanced; nothing to stress about. Since you mentioned anxiety, you might just be hyper-focusing on it more than usual.
If you really are dealing with low iron, that would definitely explain the dizziness, the fatigue, and your heart racing.
Hope you figured out what's going on and that you're feeling better by now.

I'm 19.
Thanks for breaking it down for me 🙂
Still haven't figured it all out though.
They found I have chronic sinus inflammation on my X-ray, so on top of everything else, I get that heavy sinus pressure every time I stand up.
Plus, ever since the weather started changing, it's been hitting me way harder. Sometimes I just lose my balance for a second. 🤷
I even had an MRI done on my head and everything came back fine...
Based on what everyone's saying, I don't think it's anything life-threatening, but man, it is incredibly annoying. 👎

I’m 20 years old and I’ve been dealing with this exact same crap for almost a month now. Say I get up around 8:30, grab some breakfast, and head into town—everything feels fine at first, but after walking maybe a mile or two, I suddenly feel like I’m gonna puke. My energy just hits zero. It’s a disgusting feeling. Then, a few days later, I’ll go hit the park in the afternoon, sprint for a ball maybe twice, and boom—same thing. I’m totally wiped out and just feel completely drained. So, I go see my doctor and she basically tells me, "Oh, it's just because you're stressed." I mean, sure, I get stressed, but I've been dealing with stress for over two years and everything was fine until now. She gives me a referral for blood work, so I go in early in the morning, and the same thing happens again. I get up, drive into town, and I feel absolutely terrible. I hadn't eaten anything for over 12 hours because of the fasting for the labs, so I’m just incredibly weak—one second I feel okay, the next I’m crashing. I managed to get the blood drawn, crawled home, forced myself to eat something, and it took like 4 or 5 hours before I actually felt human again. A few days later, I go back to pick up the results—and yeah, the nausea hit me again even though I didn't do anything special, just drove my car and did a little walking, and I recovered pretty fast—but the doctor tells me everything is fine. Blood sugar is good, iron is good, blah blah blah. She says I have some minor issue with my lungs, like a breathing allergy or something, and prescribed me these Rinolan pills—one tablet a day, ten tablets total. I’ve got one left for tomorrow, but I went to the park today and after just two sprints, I was dead. What the hell is going on with me!!!
I practically can't leave the house because as soon as I walk too much or try to run, I feel like garbage.

Honestly, stress can do some seriously weird stuff to your body. It happened to me—I was dealing with nausea and a low-grade fever too. Not sure if that’s what you’re feeling, but man, you wouldn't believe how much stress can actually wreck you.

I didn't walk much and I felt better pretty quickly this time. The doctor says everything is "normal"—blood sugar, iron, whatever—but apparently, my lung capacity is slightly off or I have some kind of breathing allergy or something. She put me on these antihistamines, one pill a day, but I went to the park today and after two sprints, I was absolutely dead. What the hell is going on with me?!
I can barely even step foot outside my front door without feeling like absolute garbage, because honestly, if I try to walk too much or go for a run, everything just goes south immediately.

Man, I know that feeling all too well. It’s honestly the worst. By the way, how’s your blood pressure been lately?
I always keep some glucose tabs on me at all times. Seriously, try carrying them around so when you start feeling that weakness hit, you can just pop one and deal with it. Just make sure you have water on hand too. 😉

So how did you actually pull that off? 🙂 It’s honestly wild how much damage someone can do just by being completely unhinged.

I’m a million percent sure it’s a blood pressure thing, just like everyone else said. Try lying flat for a few minutes before getting up. Don't just jump straight to your feet; sit on the edge of the bed first to let your body catch up while it's still waking up. I haven't read through all the posts yet, but that’s just my experience—this happens to me all the time, even though I'm perfectly healthy. 😉
Also, certain medications can cause it. It used to happen to me specifically during my period when I'd take an Advil for the cramps. My doctor told me it's a really common side effect of those kinds of drugs...

The last time I actually bothered checking my blood pressure—like, 3 or 4 years ago—it was running a little high, but what's this about glucose levels?
How am I supposed to be "normal" again? For the last four months, I’ve been feeling absolutely trashed. Just zero energy, nothing has changed—my diet is the same, my activity level is the same—but out of nowhere, I’m just completely wiped out... back in high school, I used to eat dinner at 7 PM and then not touch a single thing until lunch the next day (so we're talking over 12 hours of fasting), and I could easily knock out a mile in 6 minutes without a hitch. Now? I can barely handle two sprints without feeling like death. It's basically an impossible mission.
So which one is it????

I haven't really scrolled through the other threads, but that’s just how it works for me—I deal with this stuff all the time even though I'm healthy as a horse. 😉
Yeah, it’s possible. Some meds can definitely trigger that, especially for me when I'm dealing with my period. I used to pop Advil whenever the cramps got bad, and my doctor actually told me that was a super common side effect of those painkillers.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a shot. 😉
I’m always power walking, running constantly, and honestly, I have this habit of jumping up from my desk way too fast. I definitely need to fix that before I wreck myself. 😁
I had no idea about that stuff with the allergy meds. I’m currently juggling three different kinds, so I definitely need to dig through the fine print and see if they're actually clashing with anything.

How am I supposed to get back to being "normal" again? Since late April, I’ve just been totally wiped out—zero energy, everything feels exactly the same, my diet and workouts haven't changed, but out of nowhere, I'm just completely spent. Back in high school, I used to eat dinner at like 7 PM and then wouldn't touch a thing until a late lunch the next day, which meant going over 12 hours without eating, and I'd still go out and crush a run. Just a mile. Everything was fine six minutes ago, but now I can barely walk without feeling like garbage. Trying to pull off even two sprints is an impossible mission at this point.
Which one's mine?

Grape sugar is basically just glucose. It’s an instant energy hit, and honestly, whenever I start feeling wiped out—probably like my blood sugar is crashing—I just grab some and feel better almost immediately. It gets that energy back into your system fast.
I'd honestly love to give you some advice if I actually knew what was going on.
I've been dealing with this crap for over ten months now.
Probably the same thing you guys were just talking about above. My blood pressure is straight-up tanking. 😉 So you're telling me you went for bloodwork and everything came back totally fine?
Allergies can actually kill you, for real.

At first, I was convinced my iron levels were trashed—that was always an issue back when I was a kid—and then I started spiraling, thinking maybe it was blood sugar crashes from stress or some other nonsense. I was losing my mind. But honestly, once my doctor went over my nasal panel results, I felt such a massive wave of relief. Everything looks fine on paper, except for this weird respiratory allergy thing. My doctor’s all like, "Yeah, you have some congestion and breathing issues, but it's no big deal," but man, she's wrong. It's a huge deal because I can barely step foot outside my house. Out of nowhere, I just start feeling terrible. If I sit still for 30 minutes, I feel like I'm buzzing with energy, but the second I walk even 500 yards? I'm completely wiped out, like I've burned ten times more fuel than I actually did.
How do I fix this? And how does this even happen in the first place???
If my blood sugar is supposed to be normal, why the hell do I feel like garbage whenever it dips???
I've got one more pill to take today at 2 PM, but I'm heading back to see my doctor on Monday...
