I’ve got this weird issue—I honestly couldn't care less about anyone else's opinion. Look, plenty of people will tell me that's actually a superpower (and in certain situations, it totally is), but things get messy when I'm actually interacting with people. Like, if I'm grabbing coffee with someone and they start rambling about some topic, I literally don't give a damn what they think. I just nod along and listen superficially so they don't get offended. I don't even have the energy to defend my own stance because, frankly, why bother? It hurts my brain to wonder if the person I'm talking to is going to change their mind or not—it feels like a complete waste of time. I’ve basically become like a piece of furniture at coffee shops, not because I'm quiet or don't have anything to say, but because I just can't be bothered to explain myself or get sucked into the debate. Lately, I've been avoiding hanging out altogether because of this. I realize how much of a paradox it is to claim I don't care about opinions while opening up a thread on a forum to see what everyone thinks... but hey, this is a forum. It's different.

By weighing other people's perspectives against your own, you can better judge where you stand. After all, isn't comparison the true engine of progress?

I've already heard enough from them.

I suspect this could be a symptom of depression, as I experience similar sensations during my own episodes.
I would strongly suggest consulting with a medical professional who can provide you with a more accurate diagnosis.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed? It doesn't really matter. You need a constant flow of both outside perspectives and your own thoughts, otherwise, you’ll just get intellectually lazy. You need intellectual rivals to push you, but you also need intellectual friends to provide motivation when things get tough—people you'd actually fight for.

Maybe you're just getting tired of all these opinions that don't actually matter—it’s always the same old stories. Are you bored with it all? Is it getting too predictable for you?

Hell yeah. For example, if I’ve known someone for years, talking to them gets exhausting because I already know their take on everything. We're just spinning our wheels. If I met someone brand new, they'd probably be interesting for a few days, and then that's it. I'd get the info I need, learn their views, and move on. Honestly, I need people for one-time use—they need to rotate out faster than the coaching staff at the LA Galaxy.

If you aren't both having a blast or feeling genuinely satisfied during an interaction without having to force it, then grabbing coffee is honestly the worst way to hang out. You just end up in a group where everyone is staring at their phones because they're bored with themselves and everyone else, looking around vacantly, or reaching for a drink or a snack just to kill the awkwardness. It usually turns into nothing but gossip or people just saying, "Did you see this video on YouTube?" "
Maybe you need more active ways to socialize—something dynamic instead of just sitting around talking. I personally feel pretty uncomfortable when a hangout is dull 😁 It’s rare to find a circle of friends that doesn't burn out quickly or run out of things to say, though some people actually seem to prefer that same old routine.
You have to be an engaging person yourself to enjoy deep conversations with friends, or the activity itself needs to be interesting enough that you're actually experiencing new things worth talking about later...

Let me guess... you're hanging out with that same old neighborhood crew from elementary school? ☕

Are you drinking alcohol when you go out to those social hangouts?

Haha, 🤣exactly.
Look, we all crave people who actually challenge us intellectually. There are certain people I can actually engage with—people I have the energy to debate everything from deep space to nihilism, religion, spirituality, or the nature of reality. No taboos. It’s intense, unsettling, and honestly, pretty exhilarating. It feels alive.

Then there are the others. People I can't even bother to argue with when they start rambling about how different races are separate species, denying evolution, or trying to defend historical atrocities like the worst parts of American history.

Talking to them is like sitting next to an amoeba and trying to explain quantum physics. A complete waste of energy. I don't waste my breath on voids that can't be filled. They are just black holes in human form. If I have to sit near them at work, fine—I stay quiet and mind my own business.

Just a bunch of guys in tracksuits and sneakers, probably calling each other "bro" every five seconds.🤣

Joseph Bailey41 - yeah, more or less.

bluejackal2 - Sometimes, and honestly, if I’m lucky, they aren't a total bore and I actually feel like talking to them. Maybe I finally found the fix. Tonight, whiskey is my shortcut to heaven.

I’d offer you some advice, but since you clearly aren't interested in anyone else's opinion anyway...
