I’ve been watching the news lately and it feels like every time a high-profile appointment comes up, the process hits a massive wall. It used to feel like these hearings were about checking credentials and competence, but now it feels like every single move is being used as a tactical chip in a much larger game of chicken.
It’s getting exhausting to watch. One day a vote is scheduled, and the next day, everything is scrapped because of some underlying grudge or a demand for "further assurances" on something that isn't even the main job description. It feels like the machinery of government is being intentionally jammed just to score points for the next election cycle. It's hard to trust that anyone can actually get anything done when the gatekeepers are more interested in the fight than the actual function of the office.
Do you think we've reached a point where the confirmation process is just a weaponized formality, or is there still a legitimate way to hold these people accountable?
