Why blondes?

Can someone please make it make sense for me? Why does everyone insist on calling YELLOW hair "blonde"? Like, if we're being literal, what do you even call it when someone has BLONDE hair?

In Swedish (and obviously in English), there’s actually no connection to the color blue; it’s its own distinct word: blond
I wonder how other languages handle this?
Did Americans pick this up from somewhere else, or is it just a local quirk of ours?😉

Yeah, that’s some heavy stuff right there... seriously messed up.

And then there's that moment when I’m actually ready to go for it and dye my hair! Blue! People seriously think I’d pull off being a blonde!

So why do we call red hair... "red"?

And what's the word for a girl with brown hair—a brunette?

I don't know about you people, but I call them the blondies—and honestly, let the rest of the world think whatever they want. 😛

It comes down to those blue eyes. Most natural blondes tend to have blue eyes as well.

Mhm, I suppose I have an explanation.

We say it's BLONDE like flax, or LIGHT like flax (referring to hair, obviously).
So, by some sort of logic, wouldn't light hair just be blue hair? Like flax?
I might be getting a bit mixed up, but I assume you get my point.

I just wanted to point out that the idea that men exclusively prefer blondes is nothing more than a persistent myth.

Not really... they're just those "corn-colored" types... 😬
I suppose certain groups of people just had overactive imaginations and came up with far too many useless descriptors... maybe that's why...
OR perhaps they noticed some strange correlation with blue blood that had been mixing for centuries, to the point where descendants of closely related families—who all happened to marry within their own circles—turned out a bit genetically flawed... and you can imagine: they all ended up with this straw-colored hair... so, since calling it "straw-colored" didn't seem dignified enough for their lineage, they decided to name it after their blood... which turned out to be "blue"... anyway, that label is still used today for those straw-haired folks who resemble ancestors from back in the day with somewhat limited cognitive abilities...

God... I'm just talking nonsense here, I guess...😬

p.s. Why is noble blood called BLUE??? Why isn't it green or purple?

Perhaps because they never engaged in any actual physical labor, leaving them with that delicate, translucent skin where you could just see right through to the veins—which, naturally, appeared blue, giving the illusion of blue blood until someone finally decided to pick a fight with them and realized they were just as red as the rest of us.

Honestly, I can't wrap my head around who actually came up with this—or what they were thinking. Maybe it was just some random Blue tint in their hair that threw them off?
