Is it possible my grandfather was actually onto something when he said doctors don't want people to be truly healthy, because if we were, they'd be out of a job?
I am now fully convinced that the vast majority of specialists couldn't care less about a patient's actual wellness. They just want to run through their checklists—literally just going through the motions while treating patients like they're incapable or senile. If you're the kind of person who actually thinks about your health, refuses to just pop pills, and wants to dig into root causes and long-term consequences, well, good luck. You’re basically on your own. I've personally dealt with five chronic issues, and only one specialist actually helped me; I had to sort out the other four myself. Isn't that shameful? Now, I realize patients bear some blame too. People expect a doctor to fix everything while they ignore every single piece of medical advice. But it's still disgraceful that professionals allow this culture to exist. All those stories about how American doctors are somehow superior to everyone else? Total myth. People are the same everywhere, and that includes physicians. Just as our society tends to pick up the worst traits from others while ignoring the best, this profession isn't immune. We live in a modern era, yet we're stuck with such an outdated mindset.
