Wireless issues with unknown USB dongle

Alright, here’s the situation...
I’ve got this older Grand Canyon USB adapter—an unknown model—and it’s being completely useless. I can't pick up a single wireless network unless I'm using my phone to broadcast one.
To be specific, it won't detect my unknown device, nor can it see my neighbor's network. 😁
The unknown device itself works perfectly fine—I can connect to it via my phone and my laptop without any issues at all.
So, now I have to ask: is there some obscure setting I need to fiddle with to make this thing work?

This might seem like a trivial issue to some, but believe me, it’s been driving me absolutely insane for the last few hours. 🙂

What version of Windows are we talking about here? I mean, do you actually have the right drivers installed and everything else set up properly?

First, I attempted to run this on Windows XP—I managed to track down some drivers online, but predictably, it was a total wash.
Now I’m giving Windows 7 a shot. It actually pulled the drivers automatically this time, yet the result remains exactly the same: nothing.
The original drivers are nowhere to be found.
