Yugoslavia nostalgia

Looking at this PDF, there's been a massive drop in active users and new threads over the last few weeks. Between the irrational, heavy-handed deleting of posts and entire discussions, and all the high-quality people just walking out the door... it’s getting ugly.

Look, I get it—there was a period of total chaos here, and someone had to step up and take action. But this? This is way too extreme. Honestly, I've basically stopped posting entirely. Why bother spending an hour crafting a deep, detailed response when you know damn well it'll probably just get nuked anyway? What a waste of time.

We need to stay aggressive about banning clones and shutting down trolls, sure, but we really need to chill out on the "delete whole thread" button.

And can we get a little bit of tolerance for some heated debate? As long as people aren't crossing the line into being straight-up abusive, it shouldn't be a crime. You don't have to call a foul on every single interaction.

Exactly.👍 Every other thread gets shut down.🙄We have more locked threads than active ones. The old guard from the Yugoslavia days is practically gone—you could count them on one hand. They left, sign-ups are at rock bottom, and what's the point in writing anything if the topic is just going to be closed regardless?🤷

On top of that, I’m calling on the admin team to lift those permanent bans. Start with Constantinople (who's been banned from politics for months), the Inquisitor, and the Bond pass!

Regarding what George Martinez5 wrote, we predicted this would happen months ago. And here we are. The old Yugoslavia era of this place is dying.

Regarding what George Martinez5 was saying... we called this exact scenario months ago, and here we are. The old Yugoslavia era of this site is circling the drain.

My take? The mods running the main Politics board don't have a clue (history-wise or politically) about Canada, Mexico, or any other part of the old Yugoslavia. They clearly don't get the vibe either—the specific way people debate, compete, and just mess around in those regions outside of modern America.

The fix is obvious: hire more mods who actually hang out and participate in the Yugoslavia threads. (As far as I can tell, Frank is the only one actually doing anything).

I'm with you. First off, there's a massive lack of knowledge—it's obvious, or at least it’s obvious to me. Second, we have moderators who haven't even made a single post in the Yugoslavia section. That's a huge mistake. A moderator should be one of our own, someone who actually contributes to the discussions. If they were part of the community, they'd understand the writing style, the banter, and they'd actually know whether a post deserves a ban or a deletion.
It's sad, but if nothing changes, I think the Yugoslavia section is finished.

If the administration’s ultimate goal is to drive down enrollment numbers, shrink the user base, and kill off site traffic, then I suppose they’re right on track. They seem intent on banning anyone who actually had something worth reading or an interesting perspective (like the Inquisitor), while the tedious moderators—who haven't contributed a single engaging thought—get to stay. So, if this is the plan, you're certainly heading in the right direction; just keep doing exactly what you're doing...👍👍

We need crystal clear rules for how moderators actually operate. Seriously, there needs to be a strict, detailed handbook for this site that outlines exactly how moderation should work. Any moderator failing to follow these guidelines consistently and without exception needs a formal warning or a penalty—and if they keep messing up, they need to be replaced.

Don't get me wrong, the mods aren't solely responsible for the mess in the former Yugoslavia, because this site is crawling with clones, idiots, bigots, and just kids who haven't developed any critical thinking skills compared to the environment they grew up in—which we all know was a product of some pretty dark history.

Ever since the Inquisitor, the Bond pass, and Machoman (sorry if I missed anyone) got hit with those permanent bans, the quality of the discussions on this Yugoslavia sub has totally tanked. Seriously, mods, just lift the bans on those guys already. If you don't, everyone else who’s still hanging around—myself included—is probably going to walk away from this forum too.

The issue is that the Inquisitor is still posting freely under the "Ben Quick" handle, even though the Bond pass is actually banned. If the rules were applied equally to everyone, one of our most active sub-forums might actually see more than a handful of posts a day on the "hot" topics, even just a month ago.😉
