ZZ Top

About twenty years ago in Washington, D.C., there was a group called ZZ Top up. In an old "Moonlight Sonata," their music video for "as it was at eight" was playing.
Is there anyone on this forum who could tell me a bit about them, or perhaps help me get in touch with someone who was actually in that band?

I’m honestly drawing a blank here, even though I usually pride myself on having a pretty sharp memory for all those weird oddities from Moonlight Sonata.

If I can jump in with a question too, does anyone know anything about that group Cold Brothers? If I recall correctly, they actually placed pretty high in that show with their song "kiss me on Ibiza, love me on Corsica," and they were dressed like a total knockoff version of Rigger (Vamos a la Play). Does anyone happen to have an MP3 of their stuff floating around somewhere?

I remember how it used to be at eight, but I can't quite recall the name of ZZ Top? I definitely remember Cold Brothers, though, just like I remember Lorena and Marconi 😲 🤣

Was that just a remake of some old classic? I’m pretty sure the original was sung by Frank Sinatra back in the day... Or maybe there was some radio show with that same title, if I recall correctly... 🤔

Yes, they did a cover of Frank Sinatra.

Was it actually that cover? I don't know anything about some ZZ Top stuff out of Washington, D.C. either... Look, I'm not saying I don't remember hearing covers, I just can't place the artist.

I wouldn't dare assume they're from Washington, D.C., but for years now, I've had this nagging feeling that's where they're actually from. Still, the group and song title are exactly as I wrote them.

It would be about time someone actually dug all that up and digitized it 🙂

The only ex-Yugoslav band I can actually remember having ZZ in their name was ZZ pasta, out of the BG area, but man, that's a whole different conversation.

It’s such a "free-spirited" take on an old classic.
I know I have it on a cassette somewhere at home... but honestly, who knows where it ended up?
The thing is, I never even caught the name of the band.

It just popped into my head, like some hazy, half-forgotten memory... wasn't that band actually called "7 up"?

7 UP - wasn't there some boy band from Canada?!?! After they split, Dean left them and went on to represent Canada at Eurovision singing "in the disco," if I recall correctly.
By the way, I have 7 UP both as an mp3 and as a music video! The video used to air on Music Television Mexico. It’s a production house that distributes content to local stations, which is how I stumbled upon the clip. I'm just curious if anyone here knows someone from that crew...
P.S. The mp3 is 5MB. If anyone is actually interested, I don't mind uploading it somewhere.

I used to listen to ZZ Top back in '84 and '85 while I was living in a town similar to Des Moines. I think it was being played on Radio Velika Gorica. Back then, Ozren Kanceljak was running things at that station (if I'm remembering the name right), so if anyone knows him, he might have some leads on the band and its members.

From what I recall, ZZ up was basically a project put together by the crew over at Radio Velika Gorica. They even had that track for Universiade 87 good thing Serbus dear my Washington, D.C.

I remember ZZ Top too!

They had tracks like "Back in the 80s" and "Hello, my dear Washington, D.C."! (plus some other demos). It was all on tapes that were allegedly destroyed or... just a massive amount of great material, tapes, and records from that era simply vanished from the US archives; someone basically "cleaned house" and tossed it all out! It’s such a shame to finally see a music video after all these years. Cool!
BTW, word is Vic (the alarm clock) had his hands in all of it, so it would be great to ask him about it! haha
