Anyone still running Windows 7?

Slow down. Most of us are still clinging to Windows XP because it feels like the peak of operating systems—not to mention versions like Windows XP or Black XP. But once people actually get their hands on Windows 7, they’ll realize what a real OS looks like compared to XP. I'm still running XP, but I've used Windows 7 and it's genuinely solid. My only issue was that I was stuck using a trial version; if I had the full version, I would have switched to Windows 7 permanently. For now, I'm sticking with Windows XP.

What do you mean, trial? 😕

I wonder if he might be referring to one of those RC-ov versions.

Get Kenan hop on the RTM version first, then we can actually talk.😬

Look, you get a 30-day trial period before you actually have to activate it 😛
but if you go ahead and activate it right during the installation process, then it isn't even a trial anymore—it's the full version, damn it. 😉

Personally, if I just $6.75 pick up some promotional keys, I can rest easy for a few months. It’s actually a pretty solid workaround for me right now, since I haven't run into any issues with Windows, and installing SP1 was an absolute breeze.

Hey, I could use a hand here... why won't my GIFs play properly? They just show up as static images when I open them in File Explorer... I really need a way to view animated GIFs normally without having to rely on some extra software just to see them move...

@ Gerald White44
It’s simply because Windows Photo Viewer doesn't support animated GIF files anymore (link) 👎
The fix: just use gifview.exe (link) 🙂

Look, I’m honestly not sure if this is the right place to be asking this, but I figured I’d give it a shot.
Up until a few days ago, I was running Windows XP. Then, someone came over to clean up my PC and ended up installing Windows 7. Now I’m hitting a wall. When I open a folder full of photos, I don't actually see any images—just a bunch of identical-looking icons. To find anything, I have to manually open every single file just to figure out what it is. It isn't happening with regular folders on my hard drive, but it's a nightmare with my Canon camera. I've got about 2,000 shots on there, and I can't possibly click through every individual photo just to find the one I'm looking for. A few people mentioned I could try switching between large, medium, or small icons in the top right corner, but that didn't change a thing; the size changes, but the preview still doesn't show up. I hope that makes sense. Here are some screenshots so you can see exactly what I mean. Thanks in advance.

Directly beneath those 700 entries, you will find the option to select image previews and other folders... this setting, when enabled, displays the image on the right side, slightly larger than the rest of the items.

Hey everyone!
I was hoping I could grab some help from you guys because I'm running into some real headaches with my Windows 7 64. So, here’s the deal: I’ve been running this exact version of Windows for a really long time without a single issue, but out of nowhere, it started freezing up right during the startup process. I tried a full reinstall, grabbed all the latest drivers, shut everything down, and then after letting it sit for a few hours and turning it back on... boom, froze on startup again. I tried running Startup Repair, and it suggested unplugging any external devices, so I pulled the gamepad out of the USB port, but that didn't fix a thing. I did a bit of digging online and thought maybe it might be a driver issue. It clicked that I recently installed a new ATI (11.2) driver for my GeForce GTX 285, so I went ahead and reinstalled Windows yet again, installing all the drivers—motherboard, graphics, and even the Dell Monitor—using the original discs that came with the hardware. Everything seemed totally fine, and I actually thought I had finally beaten the problem, until my internet cut out. When I tried to reconnect, the screen just went haywire—you know, like when a graphics card is failing, with those weird undefined lines all over the screen, mostly white—and I had to force a restart. And the kicker? This only happened when I was trying to get online. Before that, it had happened a couple of times just while I was watching stuff on YouTube.
So, to wrap it all up: it started freezing during startup and Startup Repair couldn't do anything about it, but even before that, it would freeze mid-session in Windows (even though games were running perfectly fine) and those horizontal lines would pop up, forcing me to reboot. The last time it happened was specifically when I was trying to connect to the internet, right when the screen said "verifying username and password."
I'm sure there's something else I've forgotten to mention, but I'll probably remember once you guys start replying. Basically, I've reinstalled Windows about five or six times now and made sure everything is fully updated, using the drivers from the discs I have. Everything used to work perfectly before this suddenly started happening. I'm leaning towards suspecting that new ATI driver or maybe even DirectX, but the weird part is it's even happening with the drivers from the discs.
Thanks so much, I really hope you guys can help me out.

Yeah, but as you can clearly see, it isn't actually showing the real image; they all just look like identical little boxes.?!

Give the computer a few minutes to finish uploading them. There are just too many files to process at once, so you’ll have to be patient; if your machine happens to be running a bit sluggishly, you're definitely going to be waiting even longer... Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I would simply move the entire batch over to the hard drive first, and then browse through them that way.

Ever since I installed Service Pack 1, my desktop icons have been acting completely possessed. They won't stay where I put them. For example, if I place a file in the top right corner, as soon as I open it and save it again, the system shoves it down to the bottom left instead of returning it to
its original spot. It works perfectly fine inside a folder, though. ("Kudos to those Microsoft developers," clearly.)

For instance, if I carefully place a file in the upper right corner, the moment I open it and save it again, the system decides it belongs in the bottom left instead of returning it to its
original position. Curiously enough, everything functions perfectly fine within individual folders—a true testament to the sheer brilliance of the Microsoft programming team, wouldn't you agree?
I haven't run into that particular headache myself.☕

I'm not entirely sure I follow what's going on, but maybe you accidentally turned on auto Arrange Icons?
Right-click the desktop and hit View - auto Arrange Icons.

It works fine inside a specific folder. I guess we should give the Microsoft devs some credit.
