So, I just finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate.
During the setup process, the advanced settings option didn't pop up, which would have let me format my C: drive; instead, it just pushed me straight through to the finish line. Now that Windows is installed, I’ve realized my old OS (XP) is still sitting right there on the C: partition. Out of my 40 GB drive, I'm left with only about 2GB of free space.
Is there any way to wipe out those old XP files entirely, or am I stuck having to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch with some specific tweaks?

The thing is, during the setup, I never actually got the advanced settings option to format my C: drive; it just let me click through straight to the finish. If you had actually read the instructions carefully, this wouldn't have happened. Maybe try doing it again. 🙂

Hey everyone, does anyone actually know why I’ve got zero sound right now?? I went through the whole drill and installed all the drivers, everything seemed fine on paper... but nothing's coming out of the speakers. It worked perfectly back when I was running XP, but now on Windows 7, it's just dead silence. The weird part is, I can hear stuff through my headphones just fine, but the actual speakers? Total silence. Any idea how to fix this mess? I'm running an MSI 770-C45 motherboard

Did you actually plug the speaker output into the right spot? You should be using the middle port in the top row labeled "Line-out" (one of those six jacks). Which specific jack are you using for the headphones where the sound actually works? 🙂

Thanks for the help, but I actually managed to fix it a much simpler way.
I just updated my hard drive drivers and everything worked fine. 👍

I just updated the HDD drivers and that did the trick. 👍

Wait, what on earth does updating HDD drivers have to do with getting rid of XP? 😢

I’m running into a similar headache. I have a desktop setup with the standard three 3.5mm jacks—line-in, line-out, and mic. When I plug in my headphones, everything works perfectly fine. But the moment I plug in powered speakers that are already switched on, this stubborn computer acts like nothing is even connected. To make matters worse, I’ve been using a 2-in-1 splitter, and even then, the system is hit-or-miss about detecting the connection. Half the time I have to restart the whole thing just to get it to recognize the audio.

Is there some way I can tell it to stop acting like it knows everything when it clearly doesn't, and just let the audio through that jack?

Thanks in advance. 😁

Joshua Garcia3 said:Did you actually get that audio output hooked up right? I'm looking at the top row, specifically that middle "Line-out" jack—one of those six available slots—but then I'm wondering where exactly you're plugging your headphones in... like, which port are you using to actually get the sound coming through them? 🙂

So, I had my headphones plugged into the center jack and everything was working fine... sound was coming through perfectly. But then, I went ahead and moved the other jack—the one from the line-out—into that center spot, and now I’ve got audio, sure, but my headphones are dead silent. I actually moved the plug all the way to the far right port. And just so we're clear, that first pink one is the microphone input. How on earth am I supposed to fix this? Now even YouTube isn't making any noise either... Honestly, I feel like I'm about to lose my mind dealing with this Windows 7 mess...

And now the sound isn't working in my games either... just great. Everything's falling apart at once...
Wait, my bad... I misspoke earlier. The audio is actually integrated right onto the MSI 870-C45 motherboard, not the 770 like I originally said... damn it... 😁
So, I'm sitting here dealing with this Realtek HD audio driver... honestly, it's driving me up the wall. It feels like every time I think I've got my sound settings dialed in, something glitches out and leaves me staring at a silent monitor. Just one more thing to deal with in an already messy setup...

I put that one way over on the far right. The pink one is for the mic. How am I supposed to fix this? Plus, I can't get any sound out of YouTube either... this Windows 7 is driving me crazy.

And there's no sound in games either..
The audio is integrated into an MSI 870-C45 motherboard, not a 770 like I mentioned earlier.😁
It uses Realtek HD audio..

Plug your headphones into the orange or black jack instead. Then, go into your sound settings and set the output to 4-speaker mode. That should make your headphones act like the rear speaker pair.🙂

Is there some kind of trick I can tell him so the system stops acting smart when it's being stupid, and just actually sends audio to that jack regardless of detection?

Thanks in advance 😁

Maybe try reinstalling the audio drivers. 🙂

Joshua Garcia3 said:If you plug your headphones into that orange jack—or even the black one, really—and then go into your sound settings to set the output to 4 speakers, you'll end up with this weird effect where your headphones basically act like the rear surround pair... it’s a bit of a workaround, but it works if that's what you're after... 🙂

I've tried every single combination under the sun, and honestly, nothing is working the way it's supposed to... I'm just spinning my wheels here. Here's what I've got... Pictures... just pictures... So, I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to actually get this thing plugged in without making a total mess of it... I need to know exactly how to hook everything up so I can save some cash on a technician. Right now, I've got my headphones, and they've got these pink and green jacks on them, and then there's the line-in cable which is black... How am I supposed to plug all this into the PC properly? Any advice on where each one goes?

So, I finally managed to set up 😁 like this... but now I've got audio through YouTube perfectly fine, yet my AIMP player is completely dead silent. It’s such a pain because everything was working flawlessly on the player before, but now it's only working on YouTube. Honestly, what a headache...

It really ought to look like this. I guess you might want to check if you have that Realtek utility to manage your audio settings. 🙂

Man, I already messed with the settings somehow and just now saw your post... either way, thanks 😁
I do have that Realtek thing installed; it looks pretty much the same, so I guess that's it 😁

Hey everyone!
So, I recently finished installing Windows 7 and everything was running smooth—until I realized that whenever I right-click on my desktop, Windows Explorer Has STOPPED WORKING. Just total chaos.
I installed all the updates, but nothing changed—same old story. So, I decided to try a system restore back to the initial setup, just a clean install of Windows 7 without any extra software. That actually fixed it! Feeling pretty pumped about that, I started running my updates and reinstalling everything, making sure to right-click the desktop after every single step to double-check things were working. Once everything was finally back in place and looking good, I ran one last system restore just to be safe.
Of course things aren't perfect—I just realized that everything looks fine on my desktop, but the second I open a folder and try to right-click, the exact same thing happens again. 🙂

I found this file sitting in the system folder: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt. Just thought I'd mention it—not sure if anyone else has run into this one yet!
I’ve been digging through some forums lately—it looks like a ton of people are running into this exact same issue—but I haven't stumbled across a solid fix yet.
It’s honestly fine if it happens once in a while—five times? Sure, I can live with that. But ten times? Not so much. I already went through the hassle of reinstalling Windows, and yet here we are, facing the exact same issue. It’s happening without me even touching any new software, so my best guess is that it isn't a driver problem.
Not sure if this is a Windows issue, some weird setting, or something else entirely—just trying to figure it out.

Give Glary Utilities a shot and let me know if it actually fixes the issue for you. Download it, run the updates, perform a full scan, and
see what happens.

From what I can tell, that's more of a registry editor. I don't really see why I'd need that since I just finished installing Windows and haven't even touched any other software yet.
Well, since I'm running out of options, I'll give it a go anyway—I'll let you know if it does the trick.

Come on, just lay out the specs for me... you actually installed the specific drivers, right? Please tell me you aren't just running on those generic Microsoft ones.

I'm using the original drivers, but I don't think that's the issue—the exact same thing happens even before I install them.
