Angela Flores3 said:Paul Mendoza17, looks like your guest count has been climbing pretty steadily over the last few months, jumping from 250 up to somewhere around
320-400? 😲

Anyway, I wanted to throw a little heads-up your way regarding a specific phenomenon: when you're looking at massive receptions, the dropout rate tends to be significantly higher than it is for smaller gatherings under 200 people. It honestly makes perfect sense—once you hit those larger numbers, your circle has expanded way beyond just immediate family and close friends, who usually show up religiously. We were actually told that a 10-20% flake rate is totally standard. In our case, we started with an initial list of 300, but within a month of the first announcement, we were down to 250, and by the actual wedding day, we ended up with about 200. Most of that was because distant relatives only sent one person instead of the whole crew, and while most of our buddies and coworkers came solo without kids or plus-ones, the math just shifts. Definitely keep that in mind when you're scouting out a venue

Angela,

That is a sharp observation 😉. When I originally asked my question a month ago, I assumed—as most men do—that I would just invite around 200 close contacts. But that isn't how it works when you're dealing with a fiancée 🤷. Now, my future wife has started calculating ☕ everyone we need to invite, and we've already hit over 350 names (assuming everyone attends). Even with that 10-20% drop-off, we're still looking at a headcount of about 300.

I couldn't agree more with what Angela Flores3 wrote...
Don't expect that many people to actually show up on the wedding day; honestly, half of them won't even bother to reply to let you know they aren't coming...

Tereza Kusanovic used to sing with that local choir group back in the day.

It’s a big assumption to think that out of roughly 360-380 invitees—maybe even more—only 100 will cancel. Regardless, whether we end up with 300 or 350 guests, I'm leaning towards choosing Dugopolje...

To stay on topic, I’d like to ask if anyone has experience with that specific venue (personally, I've never been)?

Does anyone know what the food is like?

Does anyone have a better suggestion?

Thanks much!!!

The food was phenomenal—I’ve been there a few times for weddings and everything was absolutely spot on.

Boxer here again with my random thoughts... now I'm on the hunt for a solid guitarist for the house. A harmonica player is definitely out of the question, haha...

- Does anyone here have experience hosting events at the Dugopolje location?

- How was the food quality in your experience?

p.s. I heard they have two halls side-by-side, each holding about 300 people, which can be combined to create a larger or smaller space. My concern is whether having two separate weddings happening at the same time would cause any interference between the two groups.

Thanks, Advance!!!

I don't think it'll be a problem. I was with a band at the Phoenix last Saturday—they also have two halls sharing a wall. Unlike Dugopolje, which seems to have the rooms separated by a hallway... so by that logic, it should be even quieter.
The trick is to make sure the bands from both sides coordinate their breaks... and keep any loud stuff to a bare minimum.

I’m having my wedding at Dugopolje, so I can tell you firsthand—I’ve been there for a reception before.

They have two rooms: a smaller one for maybe 150 guests and a much larger one that holds about 350, if I recall correctly. They're far enough apart that it shouldn't be an issue.😉

So, does anyone actually know how many people are gonna be crammed into this room?

I hosted my reception in the smaller hall at Dugopolje (around 150 guests) and I have nothing but praise!

As for the food—everything was fantastic. The quality was top-notch (my guests couldn't stop raving about it)!

I definitely recommend them!!! 👍🙏

You honestly can't hear the music from one room to the other—at least not at Doris! I hosted a party in the small hall while Ferat's duo was playing, and Viva was performing in the next room over, yet nobody was bothered by the sound, and I'm talking specifically about the music!!!
It seems some guests from the neighboring room just found my party more entertaining than the one they were actually attending, which is why they kept drifting over to us—it had nothing to do with the music being too loud!!! 😍

Hey, I had my reception at Doris (in the smaller hall) and I honestly have nothing but praise for them—the food was excellent, and the service really stood out to me. We, along with all our guests, were beyond happy.
There was actually another wedding happening on the same floor that night, but nobody ever heard or saw them, aside from the fact that I felt like I had paratroopers landing on my dance floor 🤣. I was also worried about the noise levels, but everything turned out fine. They even have a dedicated entrance for the hall and everything... 😉

Dear fellow forum members,
I’ve been scrolling through countless pages dedicated to weddings in California (I think I saw over 5,000 posts)... I haven't quite managed to get through all 5,000 since there is so much casual chatting mixed in (a small critique, please don't be mad at me! 🙂... but I am really just looking for concrete information). Even if a lot of things are being repeated, I would truly appreciate it if you could help me out! :-)

I actually live in Germany, so trying to organize a wedding in California is proving to be a bit of a challenge, though I'm giving it my best shot because I have so much family coming in from out of town.
I am aiming for a wedding somewhere between Savannah and San Francisco for about 135 guests. I looked into Grace, which seems very exclusive, but then again, that might explain why I'm saving up for this instead of having a car... my main concern is finding enough space for everyone, and I'm also a little worried about rain in July... I know it's rare, but just imagine... we are all outside and suddenly it pours. We'd look like something straight out of a "Rain" music video by Guns N' Roses... ;-))

>>> Do you have any recommendations for a good restaurant or venue other than Tulsa or Marina Frapa???? (My friends and relatives have already held their weddings there, so I am hoping to find something "new.")
>>> Has anyone worked with Pimpinel Catering??? What is their reputation like? How is the food at a reception when they handle it?? Does anyone have a recommendation???

It would honestly be wonderful if you could answer and help me navigate this—I haven't quite figured out how to use the "search" function on these boards yet...

THANK YOU!!!

Excited, if you’re asking about the San Antonio crowd over in Malibu? I’m honestly not sure how many people their hall can actually hold—maybe someone else on here knows the layout better than I do 🙂

In that area, I’d suggest Kaštil slanica or definitely San Antonio (it fits up to 150 people). Amigos is way too small for you...

Pimpinel Catering is excellent... though honestly, all the restaurants mentioned above serve great food!
And for catering, I also recommend the Ballet School.
