Hannah Reed3 said:Yesterday I got my left ear done, and I'm already back home. It was getting way too hot in the hospital, so Dr. GlunčiΔ‡ sent me home early to recover. Everything went perfectly againβ€”the incision was fine, and I didn't deal with any dizziness or nausea.

Hi Turinica,

I hope your recovery goes smoothly. Dr. GlunčiΔ‡ operated on me on July 16th. He was supposed to fix the otosclerosis in my left ear, but since Dr. KokiΔ‡ didn't quite get it right during my exostosis surgery back in Novemberβ€”it was handled using the filing method Eric Stewart53 describedβ€”he had to perform a reoperation and go in through the ear canal. The incision hurts a little bit, but I don't have any other side effects. I’m heading in for a checkup on Monday to test my hearing and see if I need to schedule a third surgery. I'm really hoping this is the last one. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. πŸ˜‰

It feels like this recovery is dragging on longer than expected. Maybe it's the heat wave or something else, but honestly, it feels tougher than the first time around. My ear is still clogged and there's some slight bleeding, but that's about it.

I’ve been scrolling through this forum and found people dealing with the exact same headache I’ve been nursing... or rather, was nursing. It leaves me wondering about one specific thing. After my surgery, they had my ear all wrapped up, and from what I could gather, there was cotton, gauze, and some kind of plastic tucked deep inside. A week later, at the follow-up appointment, they managed to pull out a small piece of whatever debris was in there, but now there's a new issue. There is this constant, incredibly loud rushing and whistling sound in my ear... it's maddening. It gets especially unbearable at night when everything goes quiet and I'm just lying there in bed... I can't tell if this is just a standard part of the recovery process or if something is actually wrong...

....that sounds like tinnitus to me! The less you dwell on it, the less you'll actually hear it. :-)

I had some ringing before, but it was nowhere near this level... now after the surgery, it’s doubled in intensity, and my hearing in that ear is basically down to 10%...

Starting a new thread here! I’m looking to connect with anyone who has recently undergone surgery for rib exostosis. I'd love to know how long the hospital stay typically lasts and what the recovery process is actually like. From what I understand, general anesthesia is required, right?
I could really use some advice. It turns out I’ve been dealing with constant inflammation because the exostoses in both my ears are quite pronounced and progressing quicklyβ€”something my wonderful primary care doctor neglected to mention since she assumed I was too young to need the procedure!!!!
Now she’s telling me I might need to be hospitalized for at least two or three weeks, which is a huge problem because I’m currently breastfeeding. :/ That timeframe sounds absolutely wild to me.
