Muay Thai is an art form designed for you. In a standard gym setting, you won't find people trying to break you down constantly, especially when you're just starting out since most won't jump straight into sparring. You’ll definitely get hit eventually, but this is a sport, not a combat camp, so there is nothing to fear.

To pick up where I left off...
I am planning to begin training in a martial art this coming September, and until then, I will be attempting to narrow down my choice.

As of right now, the selection has been whittled down to three specific disciplines. (For the time being, anyway.)

1. Muay Thai
Are broken bones, nasal fractures, and similar injuries a common occurrence in this sport?
If they are, my old lady is going to ban me from training indefinitely once she realizes what kind of scrap I'm getting into. Damn.😢
And truthfully, I have no desire to break my body more often than absolutely necessary.
That said, the skill set seems truly impressive—essentially like kickboxing, but much more intense.
I appreciate how it focuses on actual striking with both hands and legs, along with clinching techniques, which is generally the most vital part if you ever find yourself facing an attacker.

2. Krav Maga
This feels more like a series of self-defense courses tailored to specific scenarios.
From what I have gathered while reading through various threads on this forum, there seems to be a significant amount of skepticism surrounding this method.
Is it actually worth the time and effort, or is it just hype?

3. Wing Chun
Daniel Garcia, did you mention somewhere that you have started training in this?
What is your assessment of the discipline?
Is there any truth to what someone posted here previously about seeing a guy use Wing Chun techniques to absolutely dismantle some bully at a club?

Does anyone happen to know the exact names and addresses of clubs located near the city center that offer these styles?

Thanks.

Krav Maga is alright for self-defense—depends entirely on which gym you hit up—same goes for Wing Chun, but only after you've dumped a ton of cash and years of your life into it...😛 Muay Thai is basically baked into the whole MMA chaos—pure madness. I train it myself and honestly love it, especially at those legit gyms run by the guys from the kinesiology department... they actually know their stuff, so you won't end up in a cast...

Take a look at these contacts and addresses—even if some of the clubs are missing...
Check out this directory for pro gear—basically a massive list of shops if you're looking to upgrade... useful stuff, I guess.
If you actually want to ask something specific—hit me up in the DMs...

The decision has been made: we’re going with Muay Thai and "Holy Spirit"
I appreciate all the input, everyone; I'll see you at training this September 😁

By the way, what on earth was that absolute demolition Wolverine1112 and arantes30 pulled on the Muay Thai thread? 😂
(Total dorks)

Gerald Green4 said:Hey, so I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find some martial arts training around the Zagorje area? Ideally somewhere near Krapina or maybe around Stillwater... 6.2 miles Or even better, if there’s a coach out there willing to run some sessions in a smaller town just outside of Krapina, that would be killer. If anyone’s interested, hit me up!!!

Maybe take a look at that site first and give it some thought—I mean, it’s worth considering. Personally, I’ve been training since November 2010, and honestly, up until this point, I haven't had anything but glowing things to say about them.

Hey everyone! I have a few questions for you all, and if you could possibly lend me a hand, I would be incredibly grateful. 😁 Basically, I’ve been interested in Tai Chi for quite some time now and I’ve reached a point where I really want to start practicing, so I was wondering if anyone might know where one can actually train around here? Specifically, I’m curious if there are any beginner-friendly sessions happening during the summer months. I did try being proactive and sent out emails to a handful of local clubs and even gave them a call or two, but honestly, nobody seems to be getting back to me, which is a bit frustrating, I guess. So, I figured I would just turn to you all instead. 😁
Thanks so much! 🙂

Highly recommend Chen Tai Chi—even though they’re taking a summer break starting next week...

Thanks!
I actually thought I’d be popping back in here once things started ramping up again this September, but honestly, I really need to find something to get into over the summer... Ideally, I'm looking for Tai Chi, though I suppose I might be open to other martial arts if the right thing comes along...

It might be worth sending Daniel Garcia a private message to see if he offers one-on-one sessions.😛

It’s my first time posting here, so I wanted to ask: does anyone know of a good martial arts club in the Tampa area? Specifically looking for somewhere that works with individuals. I’m trying to tone up my frame—I’m about 5'7" and 115 lbs—and I really want to put on some muscle. It’s been impossible so far, even though I’m eating healthy. I cut out sweets about a month ago, which was a massive struggle since I have a serious sweet tooth, but I knew I had to start somewhere. Thanks!

🤣 Over on the island, I'm sure you can find at least ten qualified instructors or trainers easily enough...😁
As for being "frail," there's a cure for that. It's summer, and you've got the ocean right there. Just swim. Swim and keep swimming. But don't do that retiree thing where you paddle ten yards out and then head straight back to your towel; I mean putting in a few miles every single day.👍
Front crawl. And don't forget to use your legs...

Me, again :P ...I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me when registration opens up for those Tai Chi classes held over on Main Street? I mean, seeing as they’re heading into their summer break starting this Monday...? Also, I suppose I should ask—is there anyone here who actually attends that specific session... perhaps you could share a bit about your experience with it? Thanks 🙂

Brestovac absolutely crushed it, just like Mighty Mo. Every bit of respect to him; Mladen did an excellent job. 👍

There is a Taekwondo school somewhere near Sarasota...
The club is run by a friend's father.😬

Interested?

I’m looking for some intel on Pit Bull in Split regarding their kickboxing scene. What’s the crew like—any total idiots running the place, and do they actually take beginners?
