I'm 20 years old, and let's just say my current fitness level is... non-existent (:P). I'm standing just under 6'5" and I'm sitting at over 260 lbs right now 👎
My goal is to drop the extra weight, pack on some muscle, and pick up boxing—mostly just for fun, but also for a bit of self-defense. I'm wondering how much weight I should lose or how much shape I need to get into before I actually step into a boxing gym? Because right now, I'm basically useless—I can probably do exactly zero pushups 🙂

Honestly, you shouldn't wait for some perfect number; just start slow, and over time you'll naturally find your rhythm and shed those pounds 🙂. If you really want to jumpstart things, maybe just start with some walking or light jogging

Just work out at home a bit
jump around, run in place

Come hit a Krav Maga class at the local convention center if you're in the area
you'll definitely drop a few pounds in the first month there

Hello,
I’m looking to get started with Muay Thai on a recreational basis—mostly because I find it fascinating, but also for self-defense purposes.
I am 15 years old and female, 😁 if that makes any difference at all.
Are there any clubs located in the western part of town, or perhaps near the downtown area? Yes, I'm in Los Angeles. 😁
Roughly how much should I expect to pay per month?
Also, if anyone happens to know, what does a typical training schedule look like?
Much appreciated.

Look, just flip through the last few pages of this thread. We’re constantly answering these exact same questions here. It's funny how nobody wants to take ten minutes out of their day to actually find the info they're looking for...🙄

If you still come up empty-handed, start with this:
http://www.profightstore.com/directory...cat=Thaiboxing

I'm looking for a toned, lean physique, more confidence, and better health. Just don't get lazy on me or start complaining that things are getting too hard...🙂

I actually started from the beginning and couldn't find anything specific. 😁But once I worked my way backward from the end, I finally found some stuff.
Thanks.😉

Anyway, don't worry—I'm not one of those soft types who cries because they broke a nail.
Truth be told, I barely have any nails left anyway. But that’s beside the point. 😁

Also, if you don't mind me asking... I read that Muay Thai is mostly for the ring, but I really need something that might actually work on the street. Something effective.
From what I gather, that would be Krav Maga, right?🙂

Yeah. You know two.
I suspect Krav Maga might be more your speed.

Both have their uses on the street, but Krav Maga'll get it into your system faster...

I don't know, I was just sitting there thinking about how much energy we pour into these little digital debates, almost like they actually matter in the grand scheme of things. It’s funny, really... how quickly a conversation can turn from something interesting into just a lot of noise. We spend all this time trying to be heard, trying to prove a point, when most of it just drifts away anyway. It makes you wonder if we're all just shouting into the wind, hoping for an echo that isn't coming... kaže:
I started from the very beginning, but I still haven't managed to find anything concrete... 😁 Well, I was just working my way through from the very end, and I think I finally stumbled onto something...
Hey there.😉

Look, don't worry about it. I'm not exactly the type of guy who’s going to throw a tantrum because my nail chipped or something...
Actually, I don't even have much of them left. But whatever, it doesn't really matter... 😁

I mean, if you ask me... I was reading somewhere that Muay Thai is really more of a ring sport. It’s great for competition, sure, but what I’m actually looking for is something that might—God forbid—actually be useful on the street. Something that works when things get messy...
As far as I can tell, that’s Krav Maga, isn't it...? 🙂

👍Hey everyone, I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who feels like my stomach does a complete somersault whenever those damn sirens start wailing...

If I were fifteen years old right now, with the perspective I have today, I’d head straight into Muay Thai. It provides such an incredible foundation for almost anything else you might want to learn, not to mention the self-defense aspect. Once you have that base, moving into Krav Maga clubs becomes much easier—you could just drop in for a few sessions or spend a couple of months there to get a better feel for it. You could even catch seminars from world-class instructors when they make their annual rounds through cities like Chicago or New York... From there, you just stick with whatever resonates with you more, or maybe try to balance both if you actually have the time, the budget, and the drive... though, of course, that all depends on whether you actually enjoy what you're seeing in the ring. Maybe Muay Thai isn't even your thing, but you aren't going to figure that out until you've put in at least a dozen sessions...

Right now, most of the local martial arts clubs are over at the State Fair... though you can still find plenty of Muay Thai gyms around downtown or up near the West Side.

Does anyone have any info on women's Muay Thai classes in Suburbia? If you know anything, please let me know.

I’m a total beginner—never actually stepped foot in a combat sports gym before—but I’m planning on joining a local club over in the suburbs soon, and I had a few questions:

Can I just drop in whenever, or am I stuck waiting for a new semester to start? I was thinking about heading down there toward the end of February... do you think I'll be able to catch up, or will I be totally lost?

What's the gear situation like? Do people train barefoot or is it more of a sneakers kind of thing?

Cheers,

I’ve been wondering about something, and I’m hoping someone here can give me a professional opinion. I have a five-and-a-half-year-old son, and I'm trying to get him interested in some kind of sport. The problem is, he isn't interested in anything except playing around and being a little terror with me at bedtime. So, my question is: is it actually a good idea to enroll a kid that age in martial arts, like karate or judo? Which one would be the best fit for a child his age?
If anyone happens to know of a good club like that in the Los Angeles area that accepts preschool-aged kids, that would be great.

There was a similar discussion once, quite interesting, so maybe you'll find it worth a look...

Are there any martial arts gyms in San Diego? I only know about Taekwondo, but I haven't done that in like 8 years. I'm 17 now and just want to get into some kind of combat sport to get back in shape (doing 20 pushups at once absolutely kills me) and build some muscle because I'm basically skin and bones. I'm 5'8" and sometimes I drop down to 130 lbs. You wouldn't believe it. I really want to try K-1 style fighting
or maybe if there's any ground fighting, you know, Jiu-Jitsu, somewhere in the area.
Please let me know if you can help.🙂🙂🙂

Seriously, I’ve been hunting for decent Thai food in Seattle for years now!!!!!!! Can someone just give me a straight answer—is there any actual good Thai around here or am I wasting my breath? Please, just tell me the truth, don't go throwing insults my way or trying to get me banned, I just want some damn Thai.
thanks

All I know is that Igor Ivošević does some Thai for other people, but I don't know about anyone else. Go check him out, though you probably won't tell much from just one session because he does a bit of everything—mixing Savate, kickboxing, and Thai all at once. Besides that, he offers private lessons which cost a pretty penny, but word is you actually learn a ton. If anyone knows another instructor, let me know, 'cause I'm dying to find out too..

I think you’d need a significant budget for that. It’s a long game... there are no shortcuts. Sure, you might pick up a few things quickly if you've got good coordination, but it takes a massive amount of time before it becomes muscle memory and all those little details actually click into place.
