I feel a lot better about having some chocolate now... I really do watch what I eat and hit the gym six days a week...
As for olive oil, chicken, turkey, fish, salads, veggies, and other healthy staples—I honestly don't get how people can live like this nowadays, eating fried food, fries, chips, sour cream, and all that junk. We actually know what those ingredients do to us and how much damage they cause. We should be sticking to a Mediterranean diet and taking advantage of the local climate that provides such great seasonal fruit and vegetables...😛
And obviously, everything in moderation. Occasionally a little chocolate here and there (but seriously, just an occasional dessert) and that’s it.

As for olive oil, chicken, turkey, fish, salads, veggies, and all that other nutritious stuff—I honestly can't wrap my head around how anyone living in this day and age can still be eating fried food, french fries, chips, sour cream, and all that junk. I mean, nowadays, at least we actually know what those ingredients do to us and how harmful they really are. We should really be embracing a Mediterranean-style diet and taking advantage of our local climate, which provides such incredible seasonal fruits and vegetables...😛
And of course, everything in moderation. Maybe a little chocolate here and there (but seriously, just a tiny bit—like a single pastry) and that’s that.

👍

There isn't really some grand philosophy to it—just cut back on the sweets, increase your intake of high-quality foods (heavy on protein, light on carbs), and exercise, exercise, and exercise more. 🙂

The biggest mistake people make is when they stop eating entirely, thinking they've solved the problem—but quite the opposite, actually. You're just starving your body and denying it fuel instead of eating properly and just bumping up your physical activity a bit.

And dinner is important too—you shouldn't be skipping dinner either—since that's when you should go for "light" options that are high in protein and low in carbs, like tuna, sardines, low-fat cottage cheese, and so on.

Everything is doable with enough effort and a little bit of science! 😉

Dinner matters too—you can't just skip it. You need "light" options high in protein but low in carbs, like tuna, sardines, or low-fat cottage cheese, etc.

Agreed. Low-fat cottage cheese has been a total game changer for me lately.
How are you guys eating it? What do you pair it with? Give me some ideas to switch up my menu. (Personally, I usually just grab a spoonful and go—but, fine, I eat about 4 ounces per meal).

I usually have it with a slice of bread, though sometimes I just eat it plain—around 250g. Personally, I tend to go for the Granulated Gold version because it’s a bit more refined. 🙂

You can find right here and over here for some recipe ideas; the group was actually having quite a debate about it earlier.

Thanks for the links. 👍
I also eat Goldman—it's my favorite. Actually, fat-free cheese is my go-to after a workout, sometimes I'll toss in some fruit like an apple or a peach.
Just realized people do it with almonds too...
Since we're dissecting diets now, what are you guys eating before training? And specifically before running?

You know what? You're right... I totally screwed up.😂Honestly, I can't get that one guy out of my head—you know the type, the one who thinks his idea of a "warm greeting" is basically sticking a finger up someone's backside. Just absolutely unhinged.😂😂 (This doesn't even have anything to do with bread, but hey—forgive my clumsy mistake!) SORRYYYYYYYY......

I’m also a big fan of Goldman—it’s my absolute go-to. Honestly, low-fat cottage cheese is my favorite post-workout option; sometimes I’ll toss in some fruit, like an apple or a peach.
I didn't realize people were pairing it with almonds too...
Since we’re already dissecting our diets, what are you all eating before training? And what about right before a run?

I can't stand low-fat cottage cheese—it has absolutely no flavor, "neither smells nor tastes like anything"—but I do eat Granulated Gold or maybe some German variety, which is actually much better than the first one.
Before running, I don't eat a single thing except for coffee (an espresso, no sugar, just a splash of milk)—so basically, I run on an empty stomach, and I feel great doing it.
Afterward, I follow that up with water and freshly squeezed juice made from lemon, orange, and grapefruit—and occasionally a blend of beet, carrot, apple, and lemon—just to get my strength and vitamins back up.
That usually carries me through until lunch.
As for pre-workout—meaning when I'm hitting abs or weights... I eat nothing. Usually, I'll just have lunch and then wait a few hours for everything to settle before I start training.
And after that.... I CRAVE A ROASTED MEAL!🤣🤣🤣

That German granulated cheese has twice the fat content of Goldman's Granulated Gold.

Haha, but you run in the morning. I do the same thing, just coffee during weekend runs, and I'm always wondering if it's bad for me. But I can't skip eating before training because I can't keep up the pace (I do two hours: one hour strength, one hour stairs). You know how it is—I get home around 10:30 or 11:00 PM, and I can't eat a full meal or I'll never be able to sleep.

Plus, I absolutely cannot skip eating before a workout—I just can't keep up the pace (I do two hours total: one hour of strength training followed by an hour on the StairMaster)... you know how it is. By the time I get home at 10:30 or 11:00 PM, I can't exactly sit down to a full meal, otherwise, I’d never be able to fall asleep....

I prefer running in the morning since I've always been more of a morning person. Some of the serious runners here on the forum have mentioned that training on an empty stomach is actually beneficial if you can manage it—apparently, it's better for burning fat and shedding weight. So, I've given it a shot, and honestly, it works fine; I don't feel weak at all.
As for my afternoon workouts—which I do two or three times a week (though I run every single day)—I usually tackle them once my food has had time to digest. Occasionally I get hit with a wave of hunger afterward, but I rarely overdo it in the evening because, much like you, I struggle to get to sleep. I’d much rather go to bed hungry than stuffed; I'll take the tossing and turning while my stomach is growling over being too full to rest.😍

Yeah... but let's not get bogged down in the weeds over something like this right now.😉
You know, I hadn't really given it much thought before—I mean, I was just going along with things—but deep down, I had this nagging suspicion that might actually be the case. It makes sense when you think about it; if the flavor is better, there’s usually a catch. And where there's better taste, there are inevitably more calories. It’s the oldest rule in the book, really.🙂

Listen, I’m telling you, plant-based options are fantastic. I’ve been eating them every single day for about six months now.

Give these a shot:
Plant-based 250g
1 Strawberry
or
Strawberry..............

It’s excellent.

Omg, I see everyone's talking about low-fat cheese... mmmmmm, I am seriously obsessed! I swear I can polish off like half a pound of it in one sitting. I usually grab the stuff that's only 76 calories per 100g...

But okay, quick question for you guys—I went on a little shopping spree and ended up with this other cheese, and now I'm staring at it thinking, "I can't let this go to waste!" But it's 105 calories per 100g... so, how much am I actually allowed to eat in a day?? Definitely can't go overboard like I do with my usual 76-calorie stash, right?? :/

Look, you can absolutely eat it—it’s all about playing the numbers game. As long as you’re keeping an eye on your daily caloric intake (if you actually care about that sort of thing) or just managing it per meal, there's no issue. Basically, if you pair it with other foods, you end up eating less of it overall.
That's how it should work, at least.

So, I managed to hold out without any caffeine until noon today—a minor miracle, honestly. Once I finally gave in, I headed out for a run to knock out my workout. Afterward, I just stuck to the basics: about a cup of water and a cup of iced green tea. For food, I had a slice of watermelon and a single peach. Surprisingly, I’m not even feeling hungry yet.
I'm thinking about whipping up some pasta aglio e olio for lunch—just olive oil, a bit of garlic, maybe some red pepper flakes, and calling it a day... nothing fancy, just simple.
Dinner is going to be just some more watermelon, which basically means I'll be hydrating through the evening.

Man, oh man. You're doing it wrong😲. You've gotta eat breakfast! There's no way you're hitting your five meals if you're fasting until noon. Plus, everything you ate today was basically just 🙏U.S. Food, pasta, and veggies. You are seriously lacking protein. And then you're planning on having carbs again for dinner? If you actually want to drop weight without losing all your muscle, you need to be getting at least 1g of protein per kilo of body weight (nutritionally speaking). Especially considering what you've put away today.🙂

Phew, I just finished catching up on everything everyone has said... I was away for a few days and it looks like you all had quite the lively discussion. 😁

I don't really feel like getting into a whole debate, so I’ll just toss in two quick observations:

- You can actually find Miller's pastries (and his bread) over at Clarion bakeries, since he produces for them.

- That Granulated Gold cheese absolutely RULES, though it seems like the price has gone up again (honestly, blame capitalism and inflation for that one! 😠). It's currently $3.75!!!!! at Walmart. 😲 On the other hand, if you go to Diana's, it's only 10. 😉

Melissa Clark46 said:man, that's just awful

I usually roll out of bed around 9:00 AM
half a liter of Nescafé with milk
then an hour or two later I eat something I call breakfast:
Cocoa puffs;
cereal with milk;
tuna in olive oil + mozzarella + toast;
toast with cream cheese + hard cheese + prosciutto + tomato;
some deli meat + spread + yogurt
Frankfurters + mayo + mustard + bread

those are just some of my most common breakfast go-tos

lunch
could be around 4:00 PM or maybe even later
spinach + mashed potatoes + some kind of meat (chicken, turkey, or Frankfurters 👎)
tomato soup + seasoned rice + green salad + more meat, usually chicken or turkey again
broccoli soup with heavy cream, boiled carrots in butter, rice or sautéed in olive oil + meat again (chicken)
baked beans with corn + cucumber salad with full-fat sour cream
spaghetti with tuna and heavy cream + olives
pizza (delivery or homemade)

dinner
is either one of the things mentioned for breakfast
or just a pile of cookies and chocolate
it's rarely just an apple or some fruit

if I even eat a yogurt, I stay up too late for that to stick; I always end up eating something sweet, like cookies, chocolate, chips

I usually head to bed around midnight

this was just me quickly listing what I usually eat
of course, there are days where I skip breakfast entirely, so I just snack on cookies and stuff, various croissants until late afternoon, and then I order pizza which I eat late in the afternoon or late at night

I know it's bad......

Alright, let's hear it....

Everything I put in bold is bad. Really bad.

Let me tell you why.

Take the first meal, for example—a liter of Nescafé with milk.
That isn't a meal. 🙂 I could write a whole book on milk, but honestly, I don't feel like it right now😁 but the caffeine from the coffee lowers your insulin sensitivity, which means there's a much higher chance that whatever carbs you eat after that will just turn straight into fat.

Cocoa puffs—loaded with sugar.

Tuna in oil + mozzarella + toast—fats and carbs don't play well together.
The same goes for the meal after. Plus, that cream cheese is packed with trans fats that do nothing for our bodies except wreak havoc on the circulatory system, etc. (I could go on about this forever, too).

Mayo—I don't think I even need to explain what kind of junk this is. You wouldn't even feed this to your worst enemy.🙂

Frankfurters—you really don't want to know what the food industry stuffs inside those. Even if the ingredients list is accurate, the quality is terrible (saturated fats).

Pizza, croissants, cookies... all of this sends your insulin through the roof, which stops fat burning and sends everything straight to your fat cells.

With a diet like this, you can count on being very close friends with your doctor. So, it's better to prevent than to cure—just my friendly advice. 🙂
