Used RTX 2060 with nearly the full warranty remaining for $667....Is it worth that much?

P.S. I haven't even figured out the specific model yet...

I don't think so. An RX 5600 XT, which is roughly equivalent (maybe even a few percent stronger on average), costs about 200-$100 more if you're buying new. Getting it for 1800 sounds like a solid deal to me.

EDIT: For instance, Amazon also has this one with more than half its warranty remaining.

Used GPU prices haven't dropped yet because the new series hasn't actually hit the shelves. An RTX 3060—which should sit somewhere in the ballpark of a GTX 1080 Ti—ought to land around $300-$$1167. We'll have a better idea in a few weeks. If that's the case for new cards, then GTX 1080 Ti models should be sliding down toward the $200 mark and beyond...

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice on a GPU upgrade for my current setup. I'm running an Intel Core i7 4770 with 16GB of DDR3 HyperX Beast RAM at 1600MHz, paired with an ASUS H81M Plus motherboard and a Corsair 550W 80 Plus power supply.
I’ve been weighing my options between an AMD Radeon RX 580 with either 4GB or 8GB of VRAM. Do you think that would be a solid choice if I want to play at 1080p on High to Ultra settings while maintaining at least 40fps through next year? My plan is to hold off on a full system overhaul until 2022.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for the help.

It's fine, I guess, but don't expect to max out everything. There's always those demanding outliers that'll push it too far. Just make sure you grab it at a decent price—I wouldn't pay more than $267

That’s a fair point. If we're talking about a 4GB card, I honestly think I’d be better off hunting down a new $467 AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB from XFX. Is it actually a smart move to go with a used one? If you think it's a solid deal, I’d certainly love to save some cash, but I'm torn. Should I aim for the 4GB version or the 8GB model? I have both a 4K TV and a standard 1080p monitor at home, so would having that 8GB of VRAM be a big help if I decide to play on the TV at higher resolutions occasionally?

I’d suggest hunting around for a used NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. I haven't been keeping a close eye on the secondhand market lately, but you could likely snag one for somewhere in the $120 to $150 range $433. It’s a step up from the AMD Radeon RX 580; you'll see much better frame rates and overall performance

NVIDIA and AMD are rolling out their new series soon. Sure, they're targeting the high-end market, but this should eventually force prices across the board down. An AMD Radeon RX 580 for... $467 It was a solid deal a year or two ago, but I don't think it holds up anymore. You're basically paying for an old card that’s drifted right into entry-level territory. (I actually own an AMD Radeon RX 580 myself, by the way.)

How smart is it to buy used? If you can find something that still has a warranty, go for it. But if you're picking up something without any coverage, you better score a killer price. Get it cheap, then just ride it until it dies.

It’s a step up from the AMD Radeon RX 580, so you'll definitely see better frame rates and smoother performance in most titles.

My main concern is that it might be Overkill for my current CPU. If I end up with 20-30% stuttering because of a bottleneck, it just isn't worth the investment. On the other hand, pairing an older processor with a 1070 would probably result in a smaller bottleneck than if I stuck with the AMD card. Has anyone here dealt with a similar setup? I'd love to hear if someone else has run an older CPU alongside a 1070.

Depends on what you're playing. I ran a GTX 1060 on a Core i7-920 for ages—which is way slower than yours—and in basically any heavy game, my GPU was the bottleneck.

wiredotter14 said:It really comes down to your library. I spent quite a while running a GTX 1060 alongside a Core i7-920—which, frankly, is significantly slower than what you're working with—and in almost every demanding title, the GPU was definitely my main bottleneck.

Thanks for the input. In that case, I think I'll pull the trigger on the 1070 instead. I just tracked down an ROG Strix model for $500, which feels like a pretty solid deal to me.

At that price point, they better be throwing in some kind of warranty. Otherwise, I’d expect it to cost way less.

Hey everyone. I’m looking to finally move on from my old HD 7970 OC 3GB. It’s served its purpose, but I need something with more teeth for gaming.

Right now, I’m running an ASUS B75 Pro3 paired with an Intel Core i7 3770, and I've got 16 GB of RAM under the hood.

My budget sits somewhere around $1500—$667.

Appreciate any advice you guys can throw my way.

New or used?

Both options have their merits. If I’m buying something brand new with a full warranty, I’d be willing to shell out close to $2,000. But for used gear? I’m not going any higher than $1,600 or $1,700. What am I looking at in that price bracket, and which one would actually be the smartest upgrade for my current setup?

Looks like a solid deal to me. There were recently some $667 sales going on. If I'm looking at anything under $667, I'd probably aim for an RTX 2060 or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, but I'm worried prices haven't actually dropped yet—or there just isn't enough stock out there.

Even now, they’re sitting at 1800$667—but that was just a temporary promotion. From what I hear, they're pretty much sold out now (maybe there are just a few left in stock)

Just like what Timothy Kim60 said above—I’m looking to pick up a brand-new graphics card for around $667... any suggestions on what I should grab?
I was checking out the one mentioned at Best Buy earlier, but when I called them this morning, they told me it was already sold out...
Any advice would be huge. Thanks, everyone.

Just a 1660 Super, but at a reasonable price point, right? 😁

The EVGA Ghost and the ASUS Ventus have some of the best coolers in this range $667

Honestly, this card was my top pick when I missed out on that big sale over at Best Buy.

So, it's got a solid cooler... I see that model popping up on $633
