Kimberly Ross3—honestly, sometimes I feel like I’m just shouting into the void here, but I really wanted to touch on what was said earlier about the community vibe. It’s funny, isn't it? How we all gravitate toward these specific topics—kind of like how you can't help but notice that one flickering streetlight on a quiet suburban block—even when things get a little chaotic. Anyway, I was thinking about the recent shifts in the conversation, and I can't help but wonder if we're all just looking for that same sense of connection, even if it's through these digital screens. It feels important—really, truly important—to keep this space feeling genuine, rather than just another noisy corner of the internet. Just my two cents! kaže:
Hey ladies!

I have just one question:

So, I’ve been on Trinovum for about seven months now—seven whole months!—and honestly? Everything is going totally fine. I haven't dealt with any side effects at all, which, you know, feels like a bit of a win in my book. Just smooth sailing so far!
And honestly—this is the part that really matters to me—those issues I was dealing with before I started taking this (you know, those irregular and super painful periods) have actually finally cleared up and stabilized. It’s such a relief.

So, I came down with strep throat this week—just total misery—so I finally dragged myself to the doctor today. They put me on some antibiotics, Silapen 1500, which I’m hoping kicks in fast because, honestly, I am just over it.
How much I’m going to burn through in the next ten days—honestly, who knows? I actually took my prescription over to the doctor and asked her if taking these pills like this would be okay, you know, just to be safe...
Do antibiotics have any kind of impact on how birth control works—or maybe it’s the other way around?—which she mentioned shouldn't be an issue, but honestly, that’s always such a gray area...
Yeah, honestly, I can drink both of them—no problem at all—and they aren’t going to have any kind of impact on each other anyway. It's fine!

Later on, while I was digging through the fine print in the instructions for some antibiotics—you know how it is, reading all that tiny legalistic stuff—I actually read somewhere that they can lower how well oral contraceptives work.
I couldn't find any info on whether this applies to the entire cycle—like, does it mean just those ten days on antibiotics, or are we talking about a much longer period of time altogether?

Does anyone here actually know the deal with this—like, for real—and what you’d suggest I do? 🙂

Thanks a million!

So, if I could just jump back in here with another follow-up question regarding that whole "7-day rule" thing—because, honestly, I feel like we’re only scratching the surface—so, basically:
So, looks like we need to keep up with the usual pill routine—you know, staying on track with the daily tablets—but for the next seven days, we’ve got to layer in an extra non-hormonal method too. Just a heads-up to stay consistent with both!
If you happen to miss a dose—and let's be honest, life gets crazy and we all forget things sometimes—and it’s been more than 12 hours since you were actually supposed to take that tablet... well, here's the deal.
If you end up dealing with vomiting or diarrhea—and we're talking about it dragging on for more than 12 hours straight—then you really need to take it seriously.
If a woman happens to be taking any of those medications listed under the "other medications" section—just a heads-up there—that's something to keep in mind.
If those seven days end up stretching out longer than the actual supply left in your current blister pack—you know, when life gets in the way and things don't go exactly to plan—you’ll need to crack open a new pack and start taking the tablets right away. Basically, you just skip that usual seven-day break entirely. It sounds a bit counterintuitive—I get it—but that's how you stay on track!

So, looking at my stash right now—I’ve still got 8 pills left, and then there's those 25 antibiotics... which means I'm looking at about 8 more days, plus one extra day on top of that. Just crunching the numbers, really.
So, about that last dose of antibiotics—I think I should probably take it at 7:00 AM on the first day of my break... just to be safe, you know? Everything feels a bit fuzzy when you're trying to time these things perfectly—not that I'm a doctor or anything!—but I really want to make sure I don't mess up the schedule.
Honestly—I mean, really—I’m just sitting here totally lost on what I should even do next... like, do I just let her go, or do I actually try to move past this whole thing? I genuinely don't know.
Either let me get my monthly allowance normally—without all this constant back-and-forth—or I’m just going to be sitting here staring at the wall until the next shipment arrives. Seriously.
Will everything be fine then, or should I still look into setting up some extra layer of protection just in case?

I just loved how confidently that doctor spoke—honestly, there was something about her delivery that just hit right.
Look, just take my word for it—there’s absolutely no reason to worry. Seriously, don't sweat it. There isn't a single problem here... none at all.

Has anyone here actually dealt with mixing birth control pills and antibiotics before? I’ve been spiraling a bit trying to figure out if it actually messes with everything—like, does it actually make them ineffective? Just looking for some real experiences if you've been through it.

Because of menstrual cramps (and birth control 🙂), I’ve been on Logest for two years. A few months ago, I switched over to Cilest because the pain just wouldn't quit, and my OBGYN figured we'd see if that helped. Spoiler alert: it didn't. It’s the exact same thing.
Anyway, there’s another issue eating at me—my hair.
It feels like my hair has thinned out significantly. It’s not necessarily that I’m losing more strands, but every single individual hair feels way thinner, which my hairstylist actually confirmed when she looked at it.
She was the first one to mention that she’d heard this can happen as a side effect of hormonal pills.
But what’s really driving me crazy are these breakouts on my scalp.😢 They feel like they’re forming right inside the hair follicles.😢
And honestly, it seems like they showed up right around the same time I started taking the Logest.
I don't have any skin issues otherwise—not before and not now—just this stupid scalp situation. It’s nothing catastrophic, but I constantly have at least four or five breakouts on my head, and sometimes they actually hurt quite a bit. You can't really see them, but they are maddening... 🙂

I wash my hair regularly using natural shampoos—tried the cheap stuff, tried the expensive stuff, everything under the sun. My hair isn't oily, I sleep on clean pillowcases, I eat healthy, and my blood work, liver, and hormones all came back fine.🤷
Does anyone have any advice or similar experiences?

I know I need to go see a dermatologist, but I wanted to see what people here had to say first. Thanks!

@Kimberly Ross3-taking birth control while on antibiotics totally tanks how well the pills work, so you seriously need to use condoms the whole time. Honestly, I’d even say stick to them for the first pack of a new box just to be safe..

Hope that clears things up for you🙂

Hey everyone. I’m looking for some insight here. I’m planning to start birth control in a few days, but my gynecologist insisted on doing a Pap smear first. I'm wondering if any of you had your doctor demand that before starting the pill? My last Pap was just three months ago. He didn't mention any blood work, just the Pap test, so I'm questioning if that's standard procedure. To be fair, I did have my CBC, metabolic panel, and platelet count checked about two weeks ago. Are there other tests I should probably be looking into? Also, my EKG came back perfect, but I do smoke—does that mess with how they read cardiovascular health during those tests? Sorry for the info dump, just hoping someone can shed some light on this. Thanks.

Ideally, you’d run a full coagulation profile, a CBC, and hit the liver enzymes if we're looking at biochemistry.

Copying this over from the Diane thread—hoping someone here might have some insight. 🙂

My last period was July 17th. After that, I stopped taking the pill—my doctor actually advised the break—because I'm taking a hiatus. My next one (the first without the pill) was expected by August 14th, but it hasn't shown up yet. 🤷
I haven't had unprotected sex. A few days ago, I noticed discharge typical of ovulation, and I’ve also had that constant ache—you know, the kind that feels like your period is just about to start. Should I be worried, or is this just a hormonal imbalance from stopping the pill after being on it for a long stretch (about a year and a half)?

I’ve been back on Diane for three months now—after a year and a half previously, though I did take a six-month hiatus—and I honestly feel like I’m just constantly swollen and bloated. My stomach looks like I’m pregnant, and it feels like my body is just aggressively retaining water. It’s as if everything I eat causes me to puff up to my absolute limits. It never used to be quite this intense...
My breasts have also grown significantly, to the point where I can barely recognize them as my own 🙂

How could I possibly manage this on my own?
Regarding diuretics for the water retention, I’ve tried drinking nettle tea, but frankly, it feels utterly useless, like I'm just wasting my time. Is there an actual remedy out there—perhaps specific pills, vitamins, or minerals that actually work?

Alternatively, if I were to visit Dr. Miller to discuss switching from Diane, what kind of suggestions should I bring to her? Specifically, which brands contain more or less of whatever component is triggering these side effects in the first place?

Please, any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

So, what’s your diet looking like these days? Staying the course with the old routine, or have you switched things up?

I have just one question,
I’ve been diagnosed with strep and my doctor put me on antibiotics. I managed to take the first two doses, but last night I felt so incredibly poorly—it was actually frightening—that I couldn't even think straight... I had this sharp, stabbing pain in my chest and it felt like I was choking. I checked the fine print on the packaging and saw it's not recommended to take this alongside hormonal contraceptives. So, I stopped taking the Augmentin, but my throat is still absolutely killing me. Is there any kind of alternative antibiotic for situations like this? Something they might prescribe to people who have a penicillin allergy, perhaps?...

When I was going through the same thing, my doctor basically told me she’d rather I just stop drinking booze—but take the antibiotics regardless if things don't start looking up...
Better to just give her a call and ask...

Issues, nothing but issues...
I’ve been on Triolona, took a break for a few months, and then started back up again. Because of my trip to the coast, my cycles basically merged. My period showed up right on schedule on day four, but it’s so light I could easily get away with just using a pantyliner. The problem is, I feel incredibly bloated.
Has anyone else dealt with something similar?

I’m really curious to hear from any girls who have tried both oral contraceptives and that vaginal ring. Like, what’s the actual deal? 🙂 So, basically, after taking a year and a half break, I started back on the pill—specifically Qlaira. I’ve only been at it for about a month, but honestly, it’s enough to notice that my hair is thinning out way more than usual, and I feel like I’m holding onto way more water weight. Even though the scale hasn't actually moved up, the bloating is real. Plus, my period used to be totally normal, but now it’s just this super light spotting. Anyway, I was thinking about ditching the pills and switching to the ring instead. My gynecologist actually suggested it during my last check-up, saying it’s easier to manage and since the hormones don't hit the liver quite as hard, it’s a healthier route to take. I’m wondering if the side effects I’m dealing with right now would be less intense with the ring? If anyone has any insight, I’m all ears! Thanks! 🙂

Look, you definitely need to prioritize stopping the birth control over the Augmentin. You cannot mess around when it comes to strep. If the reaction is that severe, go straight back to your doctor and demand they switch your prescription. They'll likely move you over to a macrolide antibiotic instead.

Talk to your gynecologist. Do you have edema in your lower legs? There are options like Lasix, Torsemide, or Indapamide, but they all require a prescription.

@Steven Kelly152 - I don't know much about this myself, but I'm definitely curious—maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to start a new thread so it doesn't get buried under all this 🤷

So, on the last day of my second week, I totally blanked on my pill. I ended up taking it over 12 hours late. The instructions say if you miss a pill during the second week, just take it when you remember and keep going with the regular schedule, and you should be fine. But if you miss one in the third week, apparently it's best to just start a brand new pack immediately without any break. Since I wasn't really sure, I just went ahead and started a new pack anyway. Is that actually okay? I mean, did I mess up or make the wrong call here?

It feels like we’re all dealing with the exact same struggles lately, doesn't it?😢

Has anyone here actually used Duphaston for hormone regulation?

I was on them for four months—taking two a day for ten days straight from day 15 to day 25 of my cycle—and then my period would show up three days later. It worked perfectly for two whole months.

But now we're in month three and nothing has happened. Today is day 34, and honestly, the panic is starting to set in. Because of my PCOS, my doctor—who happens to be out on vacation right now—told me I need to restart the exact same regimen.😢

Does anyone have any personal experience with this or maybe some advice?? Pleaseeee

🙂Thanks

There's actually a specific thread for Duphastone over there, where you can find some girls who know way more about it than I do! 🙂
