how on earth could you possibly know what I am🤷

I can't imagine which gay person would actually write something like that:

in this country, being gay is becoming less and less of an issue, yet they go out of their way to make it such a big deal...

Since you refer to those individuals as "they," wouldn't it follow through simple logic that you aren't one of them?

Furthermore, the first part of that sentence really highlights a certain lack of insight from someone speaking from a place of total ignorance. If you weren't able to hold hands with a girl without receiving dirty looks or even facing actual hostility, perhaps you wouldn't feel the need to spout such nonsense.

Honestly, if you couldn't even hold hands with a girl without someone giving you side-eye or starting a fight, you probably shouldn't be posting this kind of nonsense in the first place.

🤣🤣Good grief, William... since when did you turn lesbian?!

Oh, my bad... sorry about that.😂

Here is my take on the whole situation:
The only thing that should actually matter is whether a thread meets the community standards of an American forum—whether it’s being offensive, whether it makes sense, or if it follows our established guidelines. If all those boxes are checked, there's really no reason to shut it down.
If a discussion devolves into a complete shouting match or turns into total nonsense, then yeah, lock it. Case closed.🤷

Look, I had to... my bad.😂

🤣

The least I can do for someone who actually wants to talk about this topic😁

Benjamin Palmer40, maybe I'm just broken?

I know it's unnecessary and we could debate this until next week, but I just had to say it.🤷

Anyway, I'm out.

Because honestly, looking for a partner isn't exactly the same experience when you're living with a disability compared to someone who isn't.
And then, you try to start a thoughtful discussion about the unique nuances of that struggle, only to have a few trolls jump in with insults until the whole thread gets shut down by the mods. Isn't that just wonderful?

Absolutely not!

Look, when it comes to topics regarding the LGBTQ+ community, the consensus is always the same: nobody wants to get too deeply entangled with them because they are far too controversial and volatile...
It is much easier to just shut them out than it is to actually engage with them properly.

I have certainly tried to engage with them on my own terms... and let me tell you, it required an immense amount of effort... I mean, truly, incredibly exhausting levels of commitment... 😢
(And honestly, I completely understand those who find it impossible to deal with the constant barrage of insults and negativity; you would practically need a whip and steel cables to manage that kind of friction, but I am being serious)😬

That said, I firmly agree that there is a legitimate place for these discussions on many mainstream American news sites and forums dedicated to social issues, rather than being relegated solely to niche message boards.

Best regards,

Exactly my point; she just isn't cut out for the moderator grind, so she threw a bit of a tantrum instead.
Can you even imagine trying to manage entries on a massive site like Reddit, where individual threads can stretch on for a million pages? Yet, apparently, some people can't even be bothered to moderate a single page or clean up the clutter.

It really is quite refreshing to read such thoughtful posts, especially when the author is as sharp and good-looking as the guy in that profile picture—assuming that actually is you. 🙂

Please do not misunderstand my intentions, as I hold the opinion that the lady in question is an exceptionally capable moderator—indeed, she is practically royalty 😍
and when one encounters such volatile subjects, which represent some of the most difficult matters to manage on Reddit, it is just as prudent to shut the thread down after a certain threshold of hostility is reached... or rather, once there is a mountain range of insults involved, instead of leaving it open and essentially forcing everyone into a Sisyphus-like struggle for weeks on end...

Consequently, there is no single formula to follow here, and it is impossible to satisfy every single person involved.

The photo itself is just a photo; it truly does not matter... (I am simply trying to make this a pleasant read for myself) what an absolute joke...

Beyond the actual hatred directed at gay people, what really gets to me is the constant ignoring and whitewashing of the whole topic. We’re living in the 21st century on a planet where about 10 percent of the population identifies as gay. Isn't it time we had an honest discussion? I truly believe open dialogue does way more to educate and shape the minds of young people than this endless parade of "sanitized" opinions marching through this Reddit thread. In my view, bans and censorship don't actually help anyone understand those with different sexual orientations. On the contrary, real debate fosters healthy critical thinking. Just one instance where a hater realizes a gay kid deals with the exact same struggles as anyone else in the straight world—that's a massive step forward for this online community.

Like, okay, maybe you meant 1%, but saying it's 10% is a huge stretch and I have no clue if you actually found that stat or just pulled it out of thin air 🙄 and honestly, I don't get why gay people are even starting threads here on this site when they already have their own dedicated spaces to vent about their issues, find partners, and whatever else. In my book, any thread like this opened up on this platform should just be shut down immediately, whether there’s one single post or a million of them.☕

She actually pulled that specific data point from a wide array of different studies conducted on the subject, didn't she? It’s quite fascinating how much information is out there when you look at the research. They really aren't, are they?Does anyone else ever find themselves doing that little mental exercise where you pick a random number—say, "1"—and then immediately decide that this specific digit represents the percentage of homosexuals in the population? Isn't it funny how our minds can jump from a simple integer to a sociological statistic in such a fleeting moment?
On top of that, you really have to keep in mind how much of an impact the social stigma can have on everything. Is it possible that many of us find ourselves feeling this way more often than we care to admit? They simply won't be honest about being gay, will they? Can you even imagine if someone gave you a call while you were sitting in Boise with your entire family gathered around, only to bluntly ask if you're gay? It would be an impossible situation to navigate. Even that ten percent figure doesn't even account for bisexual individuals, but I suppose that's beside the point.

It is perhaps more concerning that you seem to believe you are somehow above the rules that apply to everyone else, acting as if you're exempt from the very standards we all live by. I can only imagine there are specialized, niche subreddits out there dedicated entirely to people like you, where you can vent about your little grievances regarding the current social order. Why even bother being here at all? Perhaps it would be best to follow your own advice and simply disappear. Not to mention, I won't even get started on how communism devastated half the globe, or the fact that homosexuality is a perfectly natural and common sexual orientation.

Imagine some random person calls you up while you're sitting in Boise with your entire family right next to you, asking if you're gay. That "10%" statistic doesn't even account for bisexual people. But whatever, doesn't matter.

So basically, the survey goes like, "Hey there, here's a free anatomical pillow, by the way, are you gay?"🤣 It would be great if you answered while your whole family is listening just so we can hear their reaction, right?

Setting aside the fact that communism destroyed half the planet, and homosexuality is a completely natural and common sexual orientation..

I agree. So why is this even a topic? Why all the drama?
🤷
If certain people just can't handle the world they live in, that's on them. I don't get your reaction—what are you even trying to prove here? ...Or are you doing this on purpose just to bait people like this? Probably is.

Olivia Moore51 said:So, you're saying the survey is conducted like, "Good afternoon, here is your anatomical pillow, and while we're at it, could you tell us if you're gay?"🤣 It would actually be quite interesting if people responded while their families were nearby, just so we could observe their reactions, wouldn't it?

Surveys are definitely being conducted all the time, even over the phone. Perhaps it would be wise to do a little research before you start acting so foolishly.
Regrettably, for any survey to maintain true reliability, there generally needs to be some level of human interaction involved. Of course, that human element can also trigger certain negative effects. In any case, selecting the correct sample size is absolutely vital. You eventually have to reach out to those specific people, after all. That is why online polls simply aren't a reliable indicator of anything, don't you think?

I agree, so why is this topic even being discussed with such intense drama?🤷
The fact that some individuals struggle to accept the world they live in is their own personal issue, so I fail to understand your reaction; what exactly are you trying to prove by saying this?... Or perhaps you are doing this intentionally just to provoke such responses? It certainly seems that way.

For someone claiming to be disabled—unless that was meant as some sort of disgusting joke—you seem remarkably insensitive to the struggles of others.
How can you say it is merely "their" issue when it directly impacts our lives and our rights on Reddit and elsewhere?
And you know, not everyone views homosexuality as something natural or commonplace. Isn't that precisely why we need these discussions, to help bring that concept closer to certain individuals?

Well, the moderator made a logical call here. I took a look at the thread—maybe two or three posts were actually decent, but everything else was just mockery and insults. It was quickly spiraling into yet another heated debate about homosexuality. This is, well, a standard Reddit community, and on a platform like this, gay-related topics tend to get attacked immediately—I mean, why should anyone be forced to read about someone's sexual orientation? It’s their business, not ours. I do feel bad that the conversation went south so fast and turned into blatant discrimination instead of someone giving the guy some actual, helpful advice. But honestly? It’s better that it was shut down. He probably wouldn't have gotten anything useful out of it anyway—after all, Freud suggested that homosexuality is essentially a developmental stall in sexuality.
