So, I just got my blood and urine results back—most of everything looks totally fine, which is a relief! But then there’s this little group of outliers...

Glucose... 7.1....(normal range is 4.4 - 6.4)
CREATININE.....115....(normal range is 64 - 104)

AST.........68.....(normal range is 11 - 38)
ALT.........112....(normal range is 12 - 48)

Could someone please help me make sense of this? Specifically, what does it actually mean when both my AST and ALT levels are basically double the normal limit? It's a bit concerning...
Thanks so much!

Please explain what it means when AST and ALT are double the normal limit...
Thanks.

AST and ALT serve as markers for liver function; in my view, these numbers aren't cause for alarm unless other symptoms are present. Recheck with your primary care physician in a week, then perhaps see a gastroenterologist. An ultrasound might also be wise to check for any structural changes in the liver.
And by the way, when ALT is roughly double the AST, it often points toward excessive alcohol consumption 😁. Honestly, these aren't alarming levels; in cases of true hepatitis, you'd see numbers soaring into the thousands, like 2000.
As for the rest, I don't know if you were fasting, but the glucose isn't particularly worrying either. Creatinine is an indicator of kidney function, and since it's only slightly elevated, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Jacob Long, seeing leukocytes and bacteria in a urine sample is just a straightforward indicator of a UTI. 😉

Woman in her late twenties.

- Menzes: usually lands between 27-33 days. Lately they've been hitting 32 or 33, but this one showed up on day 27 (which is weird for me). Usually last about 5-8 days, heavy and painful.
- other symptoms: oilier skin, bad complexion prone to breakouts, extra hair growth in places women shouldn't really have it, and gaining weight easily even though my diet is totally balanced.
- Ultrasound results: minimal microcysts in ovaries, just a few little things, nothing like that "string of pearls" look you see all over the internet.
- Hormones taken on day 3:
FSH (3.85-8.78): 5.9
LH (2.12-10.89): 5.7
prolactin (70.8-568.5): 406.9
testosterone (0.4-2.6): 2.7 H
estradiol (99-448): 218

FSH and LH are pretty close—should I be worried? And uh, that high testosterone...

Angela Allen82 said:Basically, AST and ALT are just markers for how your liver is doing, and honestly, these numbers don't look scary at all unless you're actually feeling sick. You should probably just head back to your primary care doctor in a week or so and then maybe follow up with a gastroenterologist, and it might be worth getting an ultrasound too just to see if there's anything physically going on with the liver.
And btw, usually when the ALT is double what the AST is, it’s more of a sign of overdoing it with the booze 😁. Anyway, there's really nothing to stress about here because if it were actual hepatitis, those levels would be through the roof, like hitting 2000.
As for the glucose, I'm not sure if you guys were fasting or what, but it doesn't look alarming either, and since creatinine is the indicator for kidney function, the fact that it's only slightly elevated means I wouldn't sweat it.

I have to jump in here because that part stuck out to me, it's actually the exact opposite—when someone is drinking way too much, the AST is typically much higher than the ALT.

I just finished a five-hour OGTT, and here are the numbers...
1. baseline (0 minutes) - 10.0 mIU/L
2. 30 minutes - 12.2 mIU/L
3. 60 minutes - 27.9 mIU/L
4. 90 minutes - 32.5 mIU/L
5. 120 minutes - 26.5 mIU/L
6. 150 minutes - 14.6 mIU/L
7. 180 minutes - 14.4 mIU/L
8. 210 minutes - 6.1 mIU/L
9. 240 minutes - 3.2 mIU/L
10. 270 minutes - 13.8 mIU/L

Could someone please make sense of these results for me?
Thanks

My myelocytes and plasma cells are elevated—they really should be at 0, but mine are sitting at 1 (rel %). Should I be worried about this?
The rest of my CBC looks fine, with the exception of my platelets, which are at 694. However, that’s actually an improvement compared to my previous levels thanks to the ET therapy. Still, these plasma cells and myelocytes have me feeling quite anxious..

Hey everyone! So, I'm 30—pretty active, hit the gym daily, and I try to stay on top of my diet. For supplements, I’m doing a multivitamin plus some calcium, magnesium, zinc, and D3. I've got an eye surgery coming up soon, though, and I'm honestly a little stressed because my recent blood work looks a bit off—nothing seems quite in balance. If there are any pros out there, would you mind taking a look at my results? I could really use some insight.

Hey, just a heads-up—my last workout was less than 12 hours before the blood draw. Could that mess with my results at all? I've attached the lab report from October 4th, 2017, below. Thanks in advance!

Hematology

ESR is 1—so, like, totally normal, I guess? (Range is 2-13).
Red blood cells at 5.44—within the normal range, which is 4.34 to 5.72—so I guess that’s looking okay.
Hemoglobin is at 169—the range is 138 to 175—so I guess that’s totally normal.
Hematocrit is sitting at 0.486—normal range is 0.415 to 0.530, so I guess everything looks fine there.
MCV is 89.3—right in the middle of the normal range (83.0-97.2), I guess. Looks okay to me.
MCH is 31.1—which is right in the middle of the normal range (27.4-33.9), I guess.
MCHC is at 348—my range says 320 to 345... I guess it's a little high, maybe?
RDW is 12.5—so within that 9.0 to 15.0 range... looks pretty normal, I guess.
Platelets at 270—so, right in the normal range (158-424), I guess.
MPV is at 11.5—the normal range is like 6.8 to 10.4—so it's a little high, I guess.
White blood cell count—7.39, which is right in the normal range (3.4-9.7), I guess.

Coagulation—just wondering about all this stuff.

Prothrombin time ratio—it's at 1.06, and the normal range is anything over 0.70... so I guess that's fine? Maybe.
Prothrombin time-INR is at 1.0—which, I guess, is a bit low if they're prepping me for an OAT (aiming for that 2.0-3.5 range), maybe?

Microscopic sediment analysis.

Red blood cells—looks like they're at 0-2, which is right in the normal range (0-2), I guess.
White blood cell count is at 0-2, which is right in that normal 0-2 range, I guess.
Squamous epithelium, 0-2. (0-1) — I guess that's pretty normal, maybe?
Hey, just checking in—nothing much to report, I guess. (0)

Biochemistry - Serum

Glucose came back at 5.3—range is 4.2 to 6.0—so I guess everything looks pretty normal.
Creatinine, 6.9, (2.8-8.3)
Creatinine, 82, (64-104) — looks like everything's totally normal, I guess.
AST is at 51—normal range is 11 to 38... just a little elevated, I guess.
GGT is at 15—my range is 11 to 55, so I guess that’s pretty normal? Maybe everything is fine...
Potassium is at 3.8—the range is 3.9 to 5.1—so I guess I'm just barely under it. Maybe it's fine though?
Sodium, 136—the range is usually 137 to 146, so I guess it's just a tiny bit low... maybe nothing to worry about?

I was wondering if someone could help me make sense of my mother’s orthopedic report? If you could skip the heavy medical jargon, I’d really appreciate it.
She’s 67 and broke her fourth toe on her right foot about a month ago.

Radiology Report
----------------
The foot X-rays show significant widespread demineralization, along with hallux valgus. There is also evidence of an old fracture in the proximal phalanx of the fourth toe on the right foot. Some of the joint spaces between the tarsal bones appear somewhat narrowed.
On the left foot, there is an uneven contour at the head of the first metatarsal bone, accompanied by a narrowed joint space and signs of subluxation toward the proximal phalanx. Additionally, there is complete luxation between the head of the second metatarsal and the proximal phalanx, and potentially between some of the interphalangeal joints as well.

Hey everyone, could I grab a little help if anyone here knows how to read neck X-rays?

It shows some early signs of osteochondrosis in the lower segment...
In the soft tissue projection near the Th1 spinous process, there's an oval calcified shadow about 1cm wide...

Hey there, sorry if I’m posting this in the wrong spot. My liver has been killing me for about five years now. For the first six months or so, the pain was absolutely brutal, then it leveled off, but I still feel it every single day. My gastroenterologist sent me to get some hepatitis markers checked out, and here’s what came back:

Hepatitis A IgG antibodies Negative
Hepatitis B antibodies Negative
Hepatitis B surface antigen Negative
Hepatitis B surface antibodies 261 mIU/mL
Hepatitis C antibodies Negative

I honestly have no clue what to make of all this. Now I'm stuck waiting another month to see my gastroenterologist again. Does this mean I have Hepatitis B? How bad is this actually? I'm reading horror stories online about liver cancer, cirrhosis, even death. I'm only 23, I don't do drugs, and I'm a virgin—never had sex—so I know Hepatitis B usually spreads through blood or sex. But I have performed oral sex on maybe four girls, and now I'm spiraling wondering if you can catch it that way.

Just relax, because looking at these results, it's clear you've been vaccinated against Hepatitis B, which is why your HBs antibodies are showing up. If you actually had Hepatitis B, your HBs antigen would be coming back positive.

Can someone break down what this ANA finding actually means?
result: speckled
Unit: titer
Ref. interval: <1:100?

Is this supposed to be a positive or negative result?

I just had my cholesterol checked and the numbers are slightly elevated. Does anyone know if this is something to worry about or if it'll settle down on its own? Total cholesterol 5.2 (limit is up to 5), LDL 3.7 (limit is under 3), HDL 0.93 (should be over 1), triglycerides 1.11 (limit is 1.7).

Mom took a CBC, checked her iron levels, and did a fecal occult blood test.
My mom's CBC looks fine, but her iron is sitting at 4 (normal range is 8-30). Her TIBC and UIBC are both elevated too.

The catch is that all three stool tests came back positive for bleeding. Looking back, we realize she should have followed specific prep instructions—certain meds shouldn't be taken for seven days beforehand.
She’s been taking Andol100 every single day. Could that be what's throwing everything off?
She isn't feeling any symptoms, but her doctor sent her in for a full physical.

Hi, could someone take a look at these results? They found some bacteria in my nose and throat, so my doctor immediately put me on antibiotics based on the blood work. Honestly, if I can avoid them, I'd rather skip the antibiotics to prevent a fungal infection hitting right after. The links have the labs. Thanks. 🙂

Hi everyone...
...if there happens to be an expert in the group, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could help me make sense of these abnormally high IgG levels. It's for a woman, 52 years old. Her medical history is far too long and complicated to dump all at once right here.
Thanks in advance.

Basically, those IgG antibodies just show that she’s dealt with EBV or CMV at some point in her life, and once you've had them, they pretty much stick around forever.
On the flip side, IgM antibodies are the ones that signal an active, current infection, and since hers came back negative, there's nothing acute going on right now.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

That’s pretty much how I interpreted the results myself, but I have to admit, these incredibly high IgG numbers are throwing me for a loop... To someone without a medical background, they look almost unnervingly high.

I had no idea that after an old infection, these values could actually skyrocket like this...

Is it actually normal for these specific numbers to be this extreme? Or would it make more sense if they were, say, two-thirds lower than what I'm seeing here?
