She was actually great and dear to me for quite a few years back when my biggest health concerns were just seasonal allergies and the flu. But once I hit my first real issue that required basic triage, her medical knowledge turned out to be a total disaster. It cost me a fortune and wasted so much precious time. Not to mention, she wouldn't even give me a proper exam to figure out what was wrong, and because of a minor issue that should have been an easy surgical fix, I ended up unable to work for over two years. On top of that, she never referred me to a surgeon, and when I told her I’d find one myself, she just said she didn't see any reason to send me. There's more, but I'm in a rush so I'll leave it at that.

I’m definitely going to switch doctors, but since I'm still dealing with some ongoing issues, there's a real chance I'll need extended medical leave again. That clinic has a really wonderful receptionist, though. That’s honestly the only reason I’m still going there.

I'm not trying to defend her at all.
My experience has been good while yours wasn't, so it's not like either of us is wrong, 🤷
I was just curious about what went wrong for you.
I really hope things go better with your next doctor!🙂

My experience was fine, yours wasn't... neither of us is necessarily wrong.🤷 Just curious what went wrong on your end.
Hope you find a better doctor elsewhere.
🙂

I’d be interested to hear why yours was good. Aside from being polite and sounding reasonable—which I won't deny—did you have any actual medical issues that actually tested her expertise? Or was it just checking if you had a sore throat or something...

Hey everyone

I’ve been battling hyperthyroidism for over four years now (I'm 25), and I'm currently on PTU three times a day. Honestly, this hyper stuff is just getting out of hand. I don't even want to get into how brutal and annoying the symptoms have been—especially since I'm in my final year of a super demanding degree program right now. It's a nightmare.

It's finally come to this: I need surgery to completely remove my thyroid.

Since I'm still pretty young, I really need to find a top-tier surgeon who knows what they're doing. Does anyone have a solid recommendation for someone great?

Please help me out!!
😕

Can anyone point me toward a clinic and a surgeon who's actually an expert at this kind of procedure? Also—any idea what the price range looks like?
I'm also wondering if the surgery can help get rid of a scar on my nose.
Hvala in advance for the help.

We're going to need a few more specifics—which part of the US are you looking at?

I have Crohn's, though I think back when I was going through the diagnostic process, I was still seeing Dr. Kolundžić.

I thought I’d share my own experience for anyone else who might still be on the fence about this. For the longest time, I struggled with my nose—there was this bump that always bothered me, and from the front, it felt a bit too wide. After months of overthinking, scouring forums, and chatting with people who had already gone through it, I finally decided to go with Dr. Toncic Clinic, and honestly, I couldn't have made a better choice. After my initial consultation, Dr. Dinko and I settled on February 12th for the procedure. On the morning of the surgery, I’ll admit I was a little nervous, especially hearing stories about local anesthesia being uncomfortable—but looking back, those fears were totally unjustified. Once I had my final chat with the doctor, I headed toward the OR. The nurses there were so lovely and efficient; they create such a warm atmosphere that you find yourself relaxing before you even realize it. They gave me something in my IV to help me chill out, and then applied the local anesthetic in my nose. It stung for just a few seconds, then everything went numb, and that was it. The actual surgery is mostly a blur of semi-consciousness for me. When it was all finished, a nurse kindly took me by the arm and escorted me to my room, where I drifted off for about three hours with cold compresses over my eyes. By 2:00 PM, I was ready to head home. I was scheduled to come back in three days to have the packing removed. As soon as I got home, I propped my bed up at an angle. To my surprise, I didn't experience any pain at all—not in my head or my nose. The only "weird" part was eating for those first three days; since you can't smell or taste anything, meals are a bit strange, but that passes quickly. They provided me with a sheet of emergency contact numbers and two pain pills, though I ended up not needing them at all. On the second day, Vesna called me just to check in and see how my first night went, which was such a thoughtful touch. I wasn't bruised, though I did have some slight discoloration near the corner of my right eye on the fourth day, but by day six, it had almost completely cleared up. Today is day seven, and I just went in to have the molds removed. The surgery was done using a closed technique, so the stitches are internal and just eventually dissolve on their own. I honestly couldn't wait to get to a mirror and see the results. And oh my goodness... it is a beautiful, perfectly proportioned little nose! My first reaction was pure shock, but obviously, it's incredibly positive. The profile is straight with a slightly lifted tip, and from the front, it looks slim and elegant. It has really softened my whole face. I have a follow-up in two months, and while there is still a tiny bit of swelling, it’s very minimal. If someone had told me that the whole process would be this smooth and painless, I would have done it years ago! Huge thanks to the wonderful nursing staff and, of course, to Dr. Dinko. He truly listened to what I wanted and crafted a nose that is nothing short of perfect. I highly recommend them to anyone who is feeling hesitant. 🙂

Yeah, and that's because of some great experiences from friends and family members (one was about 2 months ago—a girl around your age who also had moderate hyperthyroidism and went through a full thyroid removal): http://drjanusic.com/O_meni.html

Just Google him and see for yourself. 😉

Man, Dr. Kolundžić is on another level... old school. I didn't switch doctors for ages because of her (not that I even live on that side of town anymore). I'm positive she wouldn't have messed up my testing this badly if she were still working there four years ago...

I saw him once. Private practice? Top notch. But the clinic itself? A complete disaster. 😢

Not sure what you mean by "disaster." Maybe he wasn't friendly enough or chatty? For a surgeon, that's secondary. I only care about skill and track record—how many surgeries they've done and actual patient feedback. It’s tough to find real reviews here in the States because people rarely post on forums after their procedures. Such a waste of useful info...

I haven't used Janušić personally, but a friend had surgery with him at the hospital and a relative went to his private practice. Both bounced back fast and are extremely happy. In the friend's case, it was actually a corrective surgery because someone else botched the first attempt. Usually, people seek him out privately when they aren't satisfied with results elsewhere...

In this country, it’s tough to track down patient feedback because people rarely bother posting on forums about their surgeons or their results. It’s a massive shame because that info is gold.

I haven't dealt with Janušić personally, but a friend of mine had surgery with him at the hospital, and a relative went to him privately. Both bounced back incredibly fast. My friend actually needed a re-operation because some other doctors totally botched the first attempt, and both women are thrilled with the outcome. Usually, when people go to him privately, it's because they're looking for a fix after being disappointed somewhere else.

Bedside manner? Zero points. But honestly, who cares? He didn't even walk me through the procedure or tell me what to expect. He was incredibly curt. Every time I asked a question, he just brushed me off. The actual exam lasted less than sixty seconds... he checks my hormones, tells me they're off, and says, "Come back in four weeks." When I asked why or how, his response was basically, "Because THAT'S WHAT I SAID."

I told him I was nervous, and he literally told me, "NOT MY PROBLEM." Look, I wasn't expecting a damn parade, but it wouldn't have killed him to give me a little more detail.😢

All I wanted was to know a little more...

When I ask why or how, his only answer is because THAT'S HOW IT IS...

I told him I was nervous, and he just said, "NOT MY PROBLEM." It's not like I'm expecting much, but surely it wouldn't have killed him to mention it might be a simple dilation... 😢

I just wanted some information...

Who knows, maybe he was just having a bad day... If you haven't completely given up on him and still want to go through with it, I can put you in touch with a girl who had her procedure done by him during his first month. It’s a quick surgery and recovery is fast. I'm sure she can give you all the details...

Reposting this, in case anyone actually knows something:

I recently moved over to the Savica area, so I’m looking to pick a primary care doctor at the Savica Health Center (Ljerka Šram 2). Anyone have recommendations on who I should sign up with? I need someone professional and decent, and more importantly, someone who isn't drowning in patients—ideally someone who doesn't see ten people an hour just to keep up.

Hvala 🙂

It's nothing major and recovery is a breeze. I'm sure she can give you the full rundown.

Plus, even the nurses are intimidated by him—he's the big boss here. I would be seriously, seriously grateful if you could help me out!

Shoot me a PM, 🙂

I am looking for some recommendations for a truly solid gastroenterologist—someone who accepts insurance referrals, of course—but more importantly, someone who will actually sit down, listen, and take my concerns seriously enough to order whatever tests might be necessary. Is there anyone out there where you can actually have a conversation with them? To me, that is the absolute most vital thing; I need to feel like I’m talking to a real person, rather than feeling like I'm already halfway out the door before the appointment even begins. It feels quite urgent... and if possible, could you suggest someone who might also be able to refer me to a psychotherapist? My primary doctor won't issue a referral unless it's explicitly noted on the paperwork, and I am becoming increasingly convinced that these physical symptoms are just the fallout from a series of struggles I've been facing over the last few years, which I simply can't seem to get ahead of anymore.

I’m looking to switch up my OB-GYN—any recommendations for someone around downtown, the Lower East Side, or nearby? 🙂.
Ideally a woman, though I’m not strictly picky.

Alright, listen up everyone, I’ve finally made up my mind after years of overthinking it—I'm planning to go under the knife for nose surgery sometime in the spring, maybe March or April. Basically, my only request to the surgeon is: please, for the love of God, just make it smaller and more aesthetically pleasing 🙂. So, I was wondering if anyone here has actually been to the Mayo Clinic for something like this, or if you've heard any whispers about their reputation?? 😕

Or, better yet, if you have someone else you swear by, please hit me with some recommendations!!

Look, from what I’ve seen, one of the best ENT and plastic surgeons for head and neck stuff works out in San Diego at that private Rockefeller clinic. A few of my girlfriends went there for rhinoplasty and honestly? The results were killer. None of them ended up with those nasty dark circles under their eyes after surgery, and their noses turned out perfect. Plus, they only paid about $4.00 per procedure, which is actually reasonable compared to the $16,000 or $18,000 some private doctors in Chicago charge... Anyone else dealt with them?
