I went and twisted my ankle playing soccer, so now I’ve been handed a referral to see an orthopedist in Washington, D.C. Anyone have any recommendations for a good specialist out there?

I think I got the name right, but Dr. Dawidowsky at the Mayo Clinic is great.

Thanks for the quick reply! Best, 🙂

Someone close to me is drowning in a gambling addiction and they just can't seem to catch their breath 🤦 If anyone knows a solid psychiatrist who actually specializes in gambling disorders, hit me up via DM or just drop a comment below. I'd really appreciate it. 🍿

Does anyone have a recommendation for a private neurologist in NYC? Also, if anyone knows the typical cost for a neurological exam and what the process entails, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

Does anyone know a dermatologist in NYC who actually knows what they're doing with lasers for facial redness?

Does anyone have a recommendation for an orthopedic surgeon who really knows their stuff when it comes to shoulder issues? I'm looking for someone based in Washington, D.C., preferably at a hospital or clinic that accepts Medicare 🙂

I’m looking for a solid endocrinologist—specifically someone who specializes in women's hormonal issues. I'm open to options in either Seattle or Washington, D.C., though I have a strong preference for private practice over anything else.

Any guys here dealt with urologists lately? Or ladies—what have your partners told you about their experiences?
I’ve heard the rumor that it’s just like OB-GYNs—that male specialists are somehow "gentler" or whatever... so does that mean a female urologist would be the way to go if you want someone more careful?
Also, if anyone has a solid recommendation—man or woman, doesn't matter—let me know.

I heard there's this whole thing about gynecologists, where male doctors are supposedly "gentler" or whatever... so does that mean a female urologist should be gentler too?
I wouldn't generalize like that. It really just depends on the doctor, whether they're male or female—it applies to pretty much any specialist, right? If you're a guy, I'd probably suggest starting with a male urologist, just like I'd recommend a female gynecologist for women, even though some people swear the opposite gender handles things better. But again, everyone is different. You have different skill levels, experience, bedside manner, etc. Gender isn't everything. You can pick someone based on your own gut feeling or just rely on what others say.
And if someone gives a recommendation, does it matter if it's a man or a woman?
Well, it depends on where you live and if you're looking at private practice or a hospital system... Not sure if you knew, but there are actually websites dedicated to doctor reviews across all specialties: http://najdoktor.com/.

I’d highly recommend Dr. Žmire over at the Mayo Clinic; he’s honestly one of the absolute best endocrinologists in the entire USA. I actually see him myself to manage my hypothyroidism. He's an older gentleman who spent a huge chunk of his career working at Mount Sinai, and he is incredibly thorough—an appointment usually runs about an hour to an hour and a half, and the cost is roughly $83.

But again, people are different. You've got varying levels of expertise, experience, bedside manner, etc. Gender aside, it's all individual. You can either hunt for one yourself or just lean on what other people recommend.
It depends on where you're located and if you want to go through insurance or pay out of pocket... Not sure if you've heard, but there's actually a site dedicated to doctor reviews across different specialties: http://najdoktor.com/.
Thanks, hadn't heard of that site... I'll probably go private for the first visit, then see how it goes. Washington, D.C....
As for the whole gender thing, my wife only saw doctors through her insurance when she was pregnant, but once went to a male OBGYN for an exam. Usually, she goes to a woman at a private clinic, and she mentioned the guy was actually gentler... So, yeah, expertise matters.

I'm pretty sure they handle stuff like this at Vrapč, so maybe give them a shot.
