Hey guys, does anyone actually know how to get the American autocorrect working properly in Microsoft Word?! I’ve tried pretty much everything—downloading random plugins, digging through every setting imaginable—but I just can't get the damn thing to behave. If anyone has figured out the trick to fixing this headache, I would be seriously grateful! 🙂
Thanks. 😁

What exactly are you trying to do? There isn't one "right" way to set it up; you just customize it to fit your workflow. If an automatic correction is getting on your nerves, you can always just turn it off—like that annoying habit where it capitalizes every single "i". 🤷

What exactly do you mean by an American autocorrect? 😕

The whole autocorrect thing basically operates on a "if you see this, swap it for that" logic—it doesn't actually care what language you're using.

Bringing this thread back from the grave because I could really use some help with an Excel formula. I’m trying to figure out how to set up one single cell to handle two different calculations depending on what happens in A1. Basically, if A1 equals 160, I want B1 to calculate as A1*53.65, but if A1 hits 176 instead, then B1 should calculate as A1*48.77. Does anyone know how to combine those two formulas into one? Thanks a bunch!

Basically, I want both calculations living in that same single cell. Thanks!

Just pop this formula into cell B1: =IF(A1=160,A1*53.65,IF(A1=176,A1*48.77,""))

Is there any way to rip all the text out of Text Boxes in Word without doing it manually?

I’m staring down this massive document I need to translate, and honestly, it’s a nightmare because almost everything is trapped inside these stupid little boxes. I don't even work with them! Apparently, someone thought they were being clever by making some "fancy" layout to mimic a flowchart or something.

The problem is, when I try to grab the whole thing and paste it as plain text, absolutely nothing happens. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

Does anyone know a trick to select the entire document—or even just those specific sections—to pull the raw text out? Or better yet, is there a single command (or maybe a quick series of shortcuts) that can just nukes the boxes while leaving the actual text untouched?

Do you guys even know what I'm talking about here???? 🤣

Look, if you’re having this headache, there might be a workaround. Try copying the text again, but once you go to paste it, look right under where you're pasting—there should be a little icon pop up. Click that little dropdown arrow next to it and select "plain text." It sounds simple, maybe even a bit tedious, but honestly? It might just solve the whole mess. I remember dealing with something similar back when I was struggling with some old formatting issues in Microsoft Office, and stripping everything back to the basics saved my sanity. Give it a shot.

Walter Jackson48 said:Try checking the plain text setting. It might help.

It’s not going to help. A Text Box is an object—and its content—ironically 🙂—isn't actually "text" in the way that the plain text setting perceives it.

In cases like this, you aren't going to get anywhere without using a macro.

You can't really pull stuff like this off without using macros.

I figured as much, but I just couldn't bring myself to write a macro for this specific gig. I haven't been doing this damn job for fifteen years, and I remember how messy it gets. (Some of the macros I've built in the past had like, a hundred steps!) But hey, thanks for the heads-up. In the end, I just did it all manually—round after bloody round. And of course, because life is just great, since it was a translation job, the text lengths weren't even close! Every third box got totally wrecked during pasting because they have fixed sizes. Even if I tried adjusting the size, if the new text was longer than the original, it would just shove all the neighboring boxes out of place... absolute nightmare. And wouldn't you know it? I'm getting paid by the damn word, not by the layout the text sits in.

I have a question... I need to calculate results looking like this -> click

Basically, if I take a total from a specific category total , how can I make sure it excludes the two worst results? Also, ideally, I want those two bottom scores to automatically turn "red" via Conditional Formatting (just so you know, an x equals zero points).

Is this even possible to automate 🤣, or am I stuck doing this manually? 🙂

I'm using Excel 🍿

So you’re just gonna sit there crocheting and snacking on popcorn while someone else does all the heavy lifting, manually typing in your data from the examples? Real classy. 😉 ?
You should've just dropped a sample file for download. Saves everyone from having to type all that crap in manually.

slyviper6 said:Can we just have it ditch the two worst results and maybe "redline" them if possible? (x = 0 points, btw).

What do you mean by "toss out"? You probably meant "mark," right?
If that's how it is... Conditional Formatting Formatting. Set up a rule for every row that pulls the two lowest values.
Look, you can't exactly add text and numbers together—unless you want to end up mixing apples and oranges, which is just a mess. But maybe you could hack it with a long-winded formula or some macro? You could set it up to check if a cell is text or a number first, then use those conditions to hunt down the two smallest numbers. I'm not talking about just adding up cells here; I mean doing the whole thing in one single move.
If the app lets you do it without messing up the core logic, just type "0" instead of an "x". It’ll make setting up your Conditional Formatting way easier. Then just throw a standard SUM formula at the end. SUM.

You really should have provided a downloadable template so people aren't stuck doing your busy work for you.

Absolutely not.😬

I am asking if this is possible, for instance:
slyviper6 | 4 | 11 | 9 | 13 | 7 = 44

Now, can we set it up so Excel ignores the two lowest values, resulting in something like this:
slyviper6 | 4 | 11 | 9 | 7 | 13= 33

Fine, I can always just manuallyhighlight them in red using🙂
Conditional Formatting.

Man, I could just manually color them red 🙂

So where's the link to download the file?

Code:
=SUM(B4:H4)-SMALL(B4:H4,1)-SMALL(B4:H4,2)

I need some help with school statistics. Basically, I have a table with students listed vertically and subjects horizontally containing their grades. I need to create a second table that lists each subject alongside the number of failing grades, while also identifying which specific students failed each subject.

Please start by reading through the forum rules and usage guidelines. Also, please refrain from posting any email addresses, full names, phone numbers, or other personal info in future posts.

Drop the file somewhere. get it. Change the info—use fake names for anyone else who could be identified.
Dump the raw data into one table, then set up a second one showing how the final result should actually look. Throw in some comments too—it helps.

Someone else might actually be able to help you out with that.

Put the raw data in one sheet and show us what the final result should look like in another. A few notes would be helpful, too.

It'll be much easier for someone to jump in and help you out that way.

Okay, I'll try to upload an Excel Text Box to this link.
Basically, I need Sheet 2 to list all the students who have failing grades in their subjects.

At work, we’re basically cranking out carbon copies—every project is identical except for the client's name and a few details you have to manually plug into about 15 different spots across four separate files—two Word docs and two Excel sheets... I'm wondering if there's a way to just enter that data once and have it auto-update everywhere else in all those files at once?
