William Richardson12 said:Checked my own setup. You need to look for .NET 2.0 and 3.0, not WCF. WCF info is junk. Just wipe out those KB2966826 and KB2966828 updates.

...is what Windows is doing right now, but seriously, what am I supposed to do once that's all finished?

Try toggling the features on. If you expand the .NET section under Windows Features, you should see .NET 3.5 listed. If it shows up there, it'll actually install...

The main thing is that the forum was totally down last night, which was a huge pain.

Anyway, I'm stuck because I can't add any features to this specific version of Windows, so I think I'm just gonna have to try a full reinstall. Plus, it actually looks like 3.5 is already installed, because when I tried running the commands through CMD and PowerShell, they both came back saying everything was successful!

You didn't say... did anything actually change after you uninstalled those two updates?

Honestly, nothing changed at all.
I wiped the game from my drive, but now, say I try to run a DX update from the A. Noire DVD and this pops up—which, to be fair, happened before too.

So it's the exact same situation, except this time I just hit OK and the DX installation finishes up fine.

I'm stumped, and even when I try running stuff through CMD...
Code:
DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /Source:X:\sources\sxs /All /LimitAccess
or
DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /Source:X:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

It tells me everything is totally fine.

In the Windows Features menu, that little checkbox looks exactly how it's supposed to look, too...

Could you maybe walk me through what's actually going on in this picture? http://blogs.msmvps.com/haarongonzal...14/04/net3.png
Because when I use CMD, it doesn't throw any errors like it does in the screenshot, and even when I follow these steps and click OK, absolutely nothing happens! What am I actually supposed to be doing here?

William Richardson12 said:Maybe try running a Group Policy update? Just fire up gpupdate, or open the Group Policy Editor, follow what's shown in the screenshot, and then see if it actually wants to install. Honestly, I'm stumped on where else the issue could be hiding.

Man, it’s been stuck like that since last night, and everything keeps telling me that .NET 3.5 is already installed—like, totally enabled and ready to go...

Everything seems fine, you know? Except for when I head over to Add Features and check the box for WCF—then it hits me with an error saying the updates failed to install...
View on imgur - is this it...? I mean, there's usually a checkbox there.

Could this actually be the culprit behind everything?

If you want, I can jump on TeamViewer and take a look at what’s actually going on. It's a mess of an issue and nobody's figured out a fix yet...

I’m down, but not today—Saturday is my day to just go out and get things done 😬 , plus tomorrow is Sunday so if you find some free time... we could maybe make it happen
.
The only other thing popping into my head is that if we can't get this working tomorrow, I might try running a Windows repair or even just ditching this version entirely and installing a different edition, like Enterprise, since I'm currently running Pro from a multi-edition DVD.
Also, I think there was an "N" at the end of the version name, like Windows 8.1 x64 Pro N (if my memory isn't totally failing me, though I could be wrong), so maybe that's what's causing all these restrictions...

But honestly, it's driving me crazy because like I mentioned before, I've run this exact game on 8.1 without any issues at all, but then again, that wasn't the same installation...

Look, if you can snag that as an ISO image, do it. I’ll probably need to dig through it to pull some files out later...

We'll figure out the rest tomorrow.

sfc /scannow

So, I just ran this and got hit with this:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

Man, does that mean something is seriously broken under the hood?

Hey guys, I finally sorted everything out! Huge shoutout to William Richardson12 for the assist.

All I did was jump into the command prompt and run sfc /scannow, and then my buddy actually tried to launch the game by accident and—get this—it worked! Hahaha 🙂
