Pure Bergam Pathetique.

It’s just like how we sat around waiting three whole days to deal with those cafe closures—honestly, they could have shut the schools down at the exact same time. 🤷

By the way—I honestly think the most vulnerable people out there are actually the ones with the least discipline. I was out riding my bike today and the city is just absolutely crawling with people. Even the news sites are reporting that a group of seventy-year-olds decided to go out for some collective sunbathing and a dip in the Mississippi River today. Just wild. 🙏🤦
Honestly, people like that don't even need COVID—a common cold would probably land them straight in the ICU.

Here, it's the exact same pattern in Miami.

You want to know why I call Italy just some random country?

Because honestly, it’s basically the same deal as Japan—just another aging society, only there's twice as many of them.

And whatever, it's not like they're dropping like flies. People die, obviously, and death will be everywhere, but it's not like we're seeing massacres where it feels like someone let Breivik loose in a freaking kindergarten. To me, this whole situation in Italy is just tragicomic.

And it's because of people like that that I'm so stressed out. How are we supposed to protect them? Honestly, screw it.

Honestly, Italy is basically just a synonym for pure chaos and total lack of organization.
So, it’s really not even surprising that something like this would go down over there.
The only thing that feels off to me is why the epicenter is up north instead of the south, though I suppose that’s just how things work there—just like everything else in that country...

urbanhawk17 said:Facebook is just full of melodrama lately. Of course, they're all posting pictures and videos of their beds from the arena.

Look, if that's actually happening, and it seems more and more certain, why wait? Why not start tomorrow? Or Sunday? It's four days until Wednesday. By then, we'll probably have another 500 or 600 infections.

Personally, I'm all for isolating the elderly and those with health issues while letting everyone else live normally. If that won't work—and it clearly won't—then we need a total lockdown, not this half-measure we're dealing with now. This current setup is nothing.

And by the way, now that people in the city are heading out to their weekend homes, there could be quite a few cases popping up in the suburbs. I hope that doesn't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Maybe they're factoring in some level of herd immunity and figured that hitting a certain number of infections by Wednesday is actually sustainable.

Or maybe they're just waiting on some calculation, a final decision, or some logistical nightmare... honestly, it could just be some bureaucratic bullshit.

Hell, who knows—you'd have to ask whoever gave you the tip.

I don't get it. My old man is 80, so he bailed out to his cabin in the woods. He told me he hasn't stepped foot in the city or been around crowds for a month now, and he’s got no intention of going back anytime soon. That's just how you look out for yourself—what else is there? He knows he's high risk regardless of how healthy he feels; at his age, you can't ignore it.

That’s the way to do it. Just leave us alone and isolate yourselves as much as possible...

Honestly, I can't wrap my head around what's happening. It feels like I'm watching some movie. A virus hitting, quarantines, people dying, the military on the streets...

Over in France, they're already seeing fights and looting in the stores...

Seriously, what the hell is actually going on?!?

More than 12,000 people died from H1N1 here in the US.

Right now, there are 249 deaths from Coronavirus, and those were all people who were already terminal anyway.

Over 68 million infections and 274,000 hospitalizations.

That's the situation.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that from April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, there were 60.8 million cases, 274,000 hospitalizations, and 12,469 deaths (0.02% case fatality rate) in the United States due to the virus.[117]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_f..._United_States

This is a completely new playbook. Every year it's something different, but this time they decided to shut everything down.

Look, I'm the first one to say I don't give a damn about clowns like David Icke.

But this is just ridiculous.

I mean, whatever, maybe they just can't wait until July and decided to rush their summer vacations early ☕

I suppose I tend to lean toward the skeptical side of things most of the time, but from what I've gathered, the real issue is that the virus remains largely unpredictable and unstable; the more people it circulates among over a longer period, the higher the chance we see new mutations, and if things take a turn for the worse there, it could get pretty ugly.

Not likely.

As soon as the weather warms up, this whole thing becomes a memory.

It won't have nearly the impact of previous outbreaks.

Aside from the hit to the economy, obviously.

Well, that's a relief. I was starting to get a little worried, but it looks like there's no reason to be... Thanks @Ashley Bailey6!

Earlier today at my bank, some old lady was coughing her lungs out right behind me. I had this sudden, violent twitch—like someone was literally gnawing on my spine. I actually had to laugh at myself for such an overactive reaction. Coronavirus, huh? If you’d dropped this exact same scenario on me ten days ago, I probably would've collapsed mid-air under a heavy dose of growing paranoia.

Nobody stuck here in this mild semi-isolation really knows what's going on. There's no consensus on how much caution is enough and when it becomes overkill. You've got the panickers stripping every single pack of cigarettes off the supermarket shelves, and then you've got the skeptics who wave everything off with a dismissive hand—a group I still sheepishly belong to, though maybe not quite as aggressively as before.

In this idiotic situation, your only real option is to just stand there, planted like a stump, clutching whatever irrelevant theory you've picked up. You wait to see what they feed you on the news, and then you're left with the choice of whether to believe it or not, before continuing to bleat aimlessly just like before. You just wait. Wait for curfews, for escalations, for quarantines, for things to calm down, and eventually, hopefully, for a return to "normal." And while you're waiting, you'll start to realize exactly what motivates those people running around playing games and cheating their way through life.

If someone coughs on my neck, I'm reacting the same way regardless of whether it's Coronavirus or not.

The silver lining is that it might teach people about basic hygiene, but that's always been a personal matter anyway.

What kind of impact would shutting down all sporting events actually have on the betting houses? 🤔

I’m thinking it’ll be catastrophic—enough to send a massive number of them straight into bankruptcy.

Same as everything else.

It'll come back once sports does.

Until then, you might as well bet on the weather forecast. They'll just make something up.
