Once you've successfully navigated your way into the BIOS—assuming you know the shortcut, of course—we can finally move on to the next steps.☕

What motherboard are you running?

Anthony Scott93 said:Since I have never actually delved into the world of overclocking—nor do I consider myself an expert in the field—I am reaching out to ask for some guidance. I am currently running an ASUS B450 motherboard, Corsair 2 x1 GB DDR2 PC-6400 memory, and an Intel Core i-series processor (it isn't much, but I plan to upgrade to a new Intel system soon). I am trying to determine what memory frequencies (400, 533, 667, or 800) would yield the lowest latencies, and what CPU multiplier and clock speed (starting from a default 200 bus speed) should I aim for to ensure everything remains stable, and whether increasing the voltage is necessary.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try dropping the memory down to 667 or 533, set the HT link to 600 or 800MHz, and then push the FSB as far as it will go without crashing. By the way, if you need to find specific RAM or HT link settings within the BIOS, just hit Ctrl+F1...

I am already aware of the Ctrl+F1 shortcut. I need to know if increasing the voltages for the CPU and the memory is necessary, and specifically how one goes about reducing the memory latencies, if you happen to know.

The voltage probably needs an increase, though that really depends on how high you push the FSB... I’d suggest testing your limits using the default voltage first; once you hit the wall and things start glitching, that's when you give it a little extra kick. You should also be tweaking those latencies within that memory sub-menu you access by hitting Ctrl+F1...

True, but I just can't wrap my head around what all this actually does. I have no clue what CR 1 or 2 signifies, nor what CAS latency entails, though I assume those are settings that ought to be adjusted.

You won't notice much difference in lower latency during 24/7 operation...
I can barely tell when my CPU Clock Speed is 800MHz faster..

Check out this Celeron some guy sent me:

And here's mine:

I'm cleaning the heatsink and slapping on some fresh paste today. I might even hit 2.5GHz, I guess.

What is the default clock speed for that Celeron?

It's 1.6GHz... I guess we'll see how far it gets with the stock cooler.

With the stock cooler, you definitely won't be pushing past 2.2-2.4 max.

I once struggled with an old AMD processor where I could barely push the clock speed past 2GHz without hitting a wall...

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing good, I see you guys have already been chatting quite a bit here so I figured I'd jump in because I could really use some of your expertise 🙂

So, I've currently got an Intel Pentium 4 on a Socket 478 setup running at 2.4GHz with 1GB of DDR-A, and I was wondering if there's any way I could bump up the CPU Clock Speed just a little bit—nothing crazy, obviously, because I don't want to fry the thing or end up having to go out and buy a whole new cooling system!

Just in case it helps, I went ahead and pulled these specs directly from my BIOS

CPU Clock Speed (MHZ) 133\33
CPU FRQUENCY MULTIPLE (18x)

Does anyone know how high I can actually push this frequency without causing issues?

And also, does anyone have a ballpark idea of what the absolute max speed for this generation of processors would be if I were to upgrade to a beefier cooler?

Anyway, that's pretty much where I'm at right now, so please let me know what you think as soon as you can 😉

Hey, would you mind tossing over a screenshot? There’s absolutely no need to include the validation if you don't feel like it, though... if you happen to be in the mood to share it, I certainly wouldn't complain! 🙂

By the way, that CPU Clock Speed is absolutely monstrous...! 🙂 So, I was sitting here thinking about all the different directions one could take with this... wondering which fridge would actually be the best fit for the setup... because honestly, there are just so many options out there these days! It’s a bit overwhelming if you really stop to think about it, isn't it? Anyway, I was curious... which refrigerator are we talking about?
