Maybe just zviko. said:Maybe you just overclock the CPU a bit and everything runs smooth as silk. I guess. 😁

It's pretty straightforward, really. You just have a how-to section on the hardware tab.
Read through all that stuff over there, it matters. Or maybe you just need to bump up the CPU clock speed.
Maybe tell me what kind of motherboard you're running. I might be able to help. 👍

Is this actually a good topic? I'm not really sure about this one...😁

That's the topic! But if you just hit back once, you'll land right back on the tutorial page

Maybe I'm just missing something...😂 I don't see the standard tutorial on page 1.

Haha. You said I'd just click back and be right here... but I opened it in a new tab, so I guess I got a bit lost.🤣

I'll just drop this here; if the thread is getting too cluttered, feel free to delete it.
It might be worth starting a dedicated guide or a Q&A thread focused on GPU overclocking, complete with links to useful software and various schematics.

Could someone maybe give me a hand with overclocking my GPU? If you know what you're doing, please let me know. I can provide all my system specs if that helps!!🙂

You could have mentioned those details right away. Please let me know which processor you're running, how much memory you have, your graphics card model, and what kind of power supply you're using.

A buddy of mine just handed me this setup:
cpu Northwood 2.4Ghz (18x33)
mb Asus P4S8X-X
RAM 2x512 kingston 2700
Grafika nvidia 7600gs AGP
napajanje 500w
Question: What's worth overclocking here, and is it actually worth the effort?
Thanks

You might be able to tweak the graphics settings, and maybe mess with the RAM latency a bit, but I guess that’s about it since you can't really overclock a Northwood 2.4; I personally had one running at 2.4 GHz and couldn't get much more out of it...

Northwood 2.4 overclocks quite well, so please don't try to advise me when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about...

It’s quite possible the motherboard was just junk, which would explain why it wouldn't work; it likely didn't even support those options.

First impressions with the new E5200...

P35-DS3, BIOS voltage set to 1.35V

First attempt, everything is rock steady.

Second attempt—this one needs some fine-tuning. It works, but...

image

Alright, so for this second setup, I bumped the BIOS voltage up to 1.3875V. At idle, CPU-z shows 1.360 / 1.344V, but once I run Orthos, it drops to 1.328V. That seems like a massive gap to me. Is that normal or am I tripping?

edit:

Yeah, temps aren't even breaking 60C (RealTemp). Using an AC Freezer Pro cooler, obviously.😉

Anything is possible here. It might just be some junk data from CPU-z, but honestly, the only way to be absolutely sure is to check it with a multimeter.

Small FFTs kept crashing on me, so I dialed back the voltage a bit. Running at 1.3875V in the BIOS, but dropping to 1.360 / 1.344V during idle and hitting 1.328V under full load (per CPU-z), it looks stable at 310x12= 3.72 GHz.

It’s looking great, little guy! 🙂

And honestly, don't sweat the Vdroop too much because it's actually pretty standard... usually, if you upgrade to a higher-end motherboard, you'll see a much smaller drop 🙂

By the way, I actually ended up selling an E2200 to a buddy of mine recently... 🙂

Small world... 😉 He’ll be happy once I’m done with him. I pulled 3.2GHz out of that OC like it was nothing, all while keeping temps totally reasonable. Honestly, he could probably push even higher...

But look, I’ve got a headache here... I ran into this same issue back when I was messing with the e2200 until I stumbled onto a specific combo that fixed it...

Everything works fine—everything is perfect. Reboots, cold boots, all good. But the second it goes into hibernation, everything hangs. The fans just ramp up to full blast, super loud, and the whole system freezes. Black screen. At that point, I have to physically flip the switch on the power supply because nothing else works. When I finally reboot, it acts like it's "resuming Windows" but it just loads with default settings. Is this a motherboard issue or just some messed up hibernation settings?

It’s looking more and more like we might be dealing with a motherboard issue here... just to be absolutely certain though, you should probably try bumping up the CPU voltage a bit and see if that stops the symptoms from popping up again. 🙂

Hey, how much do multiplier settings actually affect voltage? I mean, if I drop the multiplier, will it pull less current, or is that strictly tied to frequency? I’m asking because this CPU has a 12.5 multiplier (though I can probably only use 12 until I flash the 😉 BIOS), and back when I was running an E2200, I kept the FSB at 399 and it was rock solid. So the board clearly has some headroom... but once I hit 400, I either hit a hole or an 😉
that I just didn't realize was there
So, if I were to pair a lower multiplier with a higher FSB, would that require less voltage or not?

Nah, don't even worry about it. Just crank that multiplier up to the max and let it rip... 🙂 You'll hit that
FSB wall pretty quickly when you're working with an E5200, though...
The voltage situation really depends on which specific chip you've got in your hands and, obviously, how high you're pushing the frequency... I'd suggest making sure you don't go over 1.35V while you're inside
Windows, but if you notice any significant Vdroop, feel free to bump it up a bit more directly in the BIOS...
