darkhawk76 said:Man, you really talked that thing down! There's no way I'm ever going to be able to sell it now after hearing all that...😁

So, I think I'll just go ahead and order the Cooler Master Hyper 212, and then we'll see how things go once I get it installed.

Well, geez, if the max FSB is only 537... we're definitely going to have to push it pretty high to get what we want...🙂

And hey, if you do decide to pick up that cooler... make sure you grab two really solid fans, because that unit actually ships without them—it basically just sits there acting as a passive heatsink.

You absolutely have to let me know how the results look once you've got the new setup running!👍

I don't know much about this setup. Up until now, I've just stuck with Arctic Cooling coolers that have built-in fans.
Will this passive block, paired with two 80mm Cooler Master fans on the side and a 120mm at the rear, actually be enough to keep a ~4.0GHz beast cool?

Well, let me tell you... I really think the absolute best move here would be to go with two 12cm fans that have really high airflow ratings... It would be great to have at least one fan pulling fresh air into the case and then maybe two others acting as exhaust to push all that hot air right out...

With that Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler, you could actually bump that CPU voltage up to 1.6V without breaking a sweat... 🙂

Money is tight right now... I've already got those three fans listed above. Can't afford to swap them out, so I'd just pick up a CPU cooler.

Are you certain that's the best fan for some serious overclocking? What's your take on Zalman?
And is there anywhere locally I can grab a Cooler Master HAF? (http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sho...px?i=2795&p=18)
Looks like it handles overclocking pretty well.

Honestly, Thermalright is just the gold standard 🙂 ...it totally blows that Tuniq tower out of the water!!

I mean, look, if you just slap two 80mm fans on top, you’ll be perfectly fine...

The problem is you can't even find Tuniq stuff around here in the States... maybe you could track some down in Canada...

As for Zalman? No way, absolutely not—the only person I know who's actually happy with that monstrosity is CUSE 🙂

I’m talking about the Cooler Master Hyper 212
Does anyone know where I can actually pick one up?
I haven't been able to find a single shop here in the States that seems to have it in stock... :-(

I think you can find it over at Best Buy

You’ve got a point there!
I was just thinking about my own setup...
But wait, if this is a passive heatsink, does that mean I actually need to pick up an additional 12cm fan to go along with it, or am I overthinking things?
Any recommendations...
Maybe this one would work http://www.amazon.com/index.php?naziv=...kl=050.908.026

It’s a passive setup, which really means you should probably aim to mount two 120mm fans right up top to get things moving...

Now, I feel like Papst has gotten a bit overhyped lately, and honestly, their build quality seems to have slipped just a touch... If absolute silence is your north star, then sure, go with Papst... but if you don't mind a little extra hum, you can find much more affordable fans that'll do basically the exact same job for a lot less cash 🙂

So, my best advice is to focus on finding fans that offer the highest possible airflow

Maybe something a bit more budget-friendly...

Look, just give me a solid recommendation that actually guarantees both quality and silence...

p.s. does anyone happen to have a Thermaltake V1 cooler lying around?
I’ve been scanning through various reviews lately, and honestly, most of them seem to give it pretty stellar marks.
In some of the benchmarks, it was even outperforming the Cooler Master Hyper 212, though I did stumble upon one guy who absolutely trashed it, claiming it performed worse than a basic stock cooler when you try to run a quad-core...

Thermaltake V1 - It’s almost laughable... you really shouldn't even mention that thing in the same breath as the Typhoon.

Now, if money isn't an issue for you... I'd suggest looking at what was mentioned earlier or perhaps grabbing some SHARKOON 120mm SilentEagle 2000 fans.

If you wire them up to a potentiometer... you can keep them running at a full 12V when you're pushing for an overclock, but for just your everyday, standard tasks, you could dial them down to about 5 - 7 V—meaning roughly 2000rpm during an OC and dropping to a quiet 1000rpm for normal use 🙂

Because let’s be honest, Typhoon is an absolute legend when it comes to coolers, and you just can't find anything else quite like that masterpiece...

If you look at Typhoon, Sonic, or even SCYTHE—most of those models out there—they really are just solid, reliable, and super budget-friendly coolers that get the job done perfectly.

I've been sitting here wondering whether it actually makes any sense to bother installing an exhaust fan at the back of the case just to help the CPU stay cool, or if I should simply take the path of least resistance and just pop the side panel off entirely...

You really can't go wrong with adding some fans to your case... I always tell people that you absolutely need them if you want things running smoothly! My own little rule of thumb is to have at least one intake fan pulling cool air in, paired with two exhaust fans at the back to push all that nasty hot air out of the system... Honestly, I actually keep the side panel of my rig completely open, and just by doing that, I managed to shave about 3 or 4 degrees off my temps, which was such a relief...

And just to be sure, you're saying there are three of them listed there, right?

Thanks, man...
I think I’m still leaning toward picking up the Cooler Master Hyper 212.
It’s budget-friendly, keeps things remarkably cool, and if you just slap a high-performance fan on top of it, you basically have a mini-fridge for $100!

Andrew Fox74 said:If I recall correctly, you need a processor with an unlocked multiplier.
As far as I know regarding the Barton architecture, only the mobile versions came unlocked; with the standard desktop chips, you have to mess around with the processor settings.
I think that's right, though I can't say for certain. 😁 😁

Do you happen to know where to find a link or something? Just give me anything you've got.
