Look, I know,

And that’s exactly why I keep hammering this point home over and over again,

But hey, I'm just pulling your leg.

How much headroom do you think I'd have if I tried to overclock my AMD Sempron 2800+ @1600MHz?

Hehe, I've got a Gigabyte M55S-S3 overclocked and it’s running just fine...

Alright, so my buddy just posted some shots of his overclocked rig over on his blog, so go ahead and drop him some love in the comments down there. blogspot.com

Damn, those are killer results...🙏
I just can't find any mention of what memory was used...

EDIT: Looks like Crucial Ballistix....

For some reason, my Windows isn't displaying the chipset temperature. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I'm running a Gigabyte M55S-S3

Is there actually some kind of program out there that can just automatically tune-up everything—you know, overclock it? I’ve got zero clue how any of this works and honestly, I don't know the first thing about the BIOS... just give me a program I can install to crank everything up to max performance and call it a day. If such a thing even exists... please? Thanks.

If you happen to be running an Nvidia card and a chipset from them, you might be able to get somewhere using nTune... though, to be honest, I'm not entirely positive if it works for non-Nvidia hardware either... it's a bit fuzzy on me.

But truthfully, there isn't really a reliable program that will give you a high-quality, stable, or even particularly useful overclock for your whole system...

You really have to dive into the BIOS yourself...😉

But let's be real—there isn't any decent software out there that actually delivers a solid, stable, or useful system overclock.

You've gotta go straight into the BIOS.😉

I've got an Nvidia 7100GS card paired with an ASROCK 48NF6G-VSTA motherboard... can I run this through some kind of software? If so, just tell me what I need to disable in the BIOS. Everything is set to automatic right now—do I need to switch everything to manual before running the scan so my PC doesn't crash on startup?? thanks

I was wondering if there's some kind of software that can handle this, and if it works, could you just let me know which BIOS settings I need to tweak? Right now everything is set to automatic, so should I switch it over to manual before running any scanning programs so my PC actually boots up properly? Thanks!

With a setup like that, you aren't really going to be doing any overclocking at all... unfortunately...😉

Look, there's nothing more to say about him. He is what he is. Here’s the whole setup... an AMD Sempron 3000+ running at 1800MHz, 128 kb of L2 cache, 1GB of PC-3200 DDR RAM (with 42% currently in use), plus that specific GPU and motherboard combo... honestly, it doesn't even matter. It works just fine for me as it is. Anyway, thanks regardless.

Can I squeeze some extra juice out of this rig too? :P
Intel Core Q6600 2.4GHz, 1066MHz, 8MB,
4 GB DDR2 GEIL RAM, H
320 GB SATA II HDD,
GeForce 8800 GTS, 320 MB superclocked or whatever they call it these days
Abit Fatalyty FP-IN9 sliti 1066MHz FSB Motherboard
Chieftec Big Tower case with a 400W :P BlueStorm ii :P power supply
:P I'm hoping I can push the performance up just a bit.

Is it actually worth it? I want to know the downsides too—specifically, how much does this actually shave off its lifespan?

The power supply is pretty weak...
That CPU is running hot too, so you should probably pick up a decent cooler...

Why bother overclocking a stock quad-core if it's already struggling? 😁

And what's your deal—is it just some basic stock quad core that you're desperately trying to overclock just to stay relevant??? i> b> div>

After about a month off, I’ve gone back to wasting my time again.
The big change is that I swapped out my Motherboard for an identical new one. At one point, everything just froze after I toggled a setting in the BIOS to save my profiles (there are two options). For no logical reason, the whole thing went black. No picture, no sound, nothing. I had to wait 15 days for the new board (MSI P35 Platinum) to arrive.

One thing I noticed right away is the massive Vdrop on this one. My old board actually showed a negative offset—meaning Everest was reading a higher voltage than what the BIOS reported. That might have just been some weird anomaly where the board was overvolting.

So, back to the grind.
This time the results are better; I've almost hit 4 GHz. I think I’ll have to push it just a bit further because hitting that number feels like a psychological milestone, and I'm right on the edge.

I managed 499 * 8 = 3992 MHz.
Memory timings are 4-4-4-15.

Voltages:
CPU 1.6250 (1.60)
Mem 2.20
FSB 1.475
NB 1.45
SB 1.8
SB 1.15

Super PI 1 M => 12.766 sec.

Everest read 9781
write 9035
copy 8352
latenc. 50.8 ns

Daily settings are Vcpu 1.5 V, fsb = 485.
I'm just not sure if I should run it at this voltage long-term.
