If you haven't mastered the art of overclocking your current processor, you aren't going to suddenly find it easy when you pick up a brand-new one...

👍But honestly? These days, people are all about trying to overclock everything without even knowing what they’re actually aiming for! Most of them don't even realize that in the vast majority of cases, it isn't even necessary... plus, I'd bet my bottom dollar that less than 2% of them are actual enthusiasts.

What am I actually gaining if I decide to overclock my CPU?

I suppose you ought to attempt becoming a bit more intelligent, though in your specific case, that seems like a remarkably low bar to clear.😂
Hebate, what on earth has this forum devolved into? It’s nothing more than a disorganized swarm of dim-witted ten-year-old morons cluttering everything up with endless spam...

Got my hands on this new E2200. It’s from that 21xx series—65nm, quad-core, 2.2GHz. Seems like it runs a little hotter than the rest of the 21xx batch...

So, I pulled out the old E4300 (1.8GHz, quad-core), which I had overclocked to 2.7GHz (9x300). That thing used to run crazy hot. My setup is a Gigabyte P35-DS3 board, 4GB of Kingmax RAM (2x2GB 800MHz), and a Blue Orb II cooler...

I pushed this one to 3.0GHz (300x10). FSB is at 1200, memory ratio is 2:3, running at 450MHz (900 effective) with timings of 5-6-6-21-2T. Idle temps are sitting at 35 and 32 degrees. For context, my old E4300 was idling at 47 when it was at 2.7GHz!

I've been running Intel Thermal Analysis Tool under full load and temps never cross 64. Even under Orthos, they don't even touch 60. It holds steady for about 20 minutes and then just crashes...

Anyone have a guess why? Is it because the FSB is a bit high at 1200, or is it the Kingmax 800 sticks being pushed to 900?

I should probably mention first that those sensors don't always read things quite the same way depending on which processor you're throwing at them... 🙂

It’s honestly the exact same story on my end, too! I actually made the jump from an Intel Core 2 Duo to an E6700 recently... and man, the temperatures are looking significantly lower now... though, of course, I’m well aware that when you're using the same heatsink, any discrepancies shouldn't really be swinging more than five degrees in either direction...

My rig is actually decent. I've got 4GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor clocked at 4.00 GHz, and an 8600 GT 512MB in a crossfire setup—which basically means I'm running dual graphics cards. Pretty beastly...👍👍👍👍

These temperature readings are driving me absolutely insane... honestly, I could barely find two programs that actually show anything remotely consistent—just Tat and Hardware Monitor. Everything else is garbage... that Core Temp app doesn't understand a damn thing, it just sits there showing -37 constantly. 😉

Anyway, I just did this real quick; I’ll mess around with it more later... gonna try dropping the memory voltage.

But look, I can tell you I'm happy... 3GHz is solid for an 8800GTS, and at least now I don't have to stress about the heat. Man, when my Intel Core 2 Duo was hitting over 80 during Orthus, I wasn't exactly losing sleep over whether the sensors were accurate or not... I've never fried a component in my life, so why start now? 😉

Hehe, as long as you're happy with the results, that's really all that matters in the end... 🙂

Hahaha, how did Elvis Presley even figure that out?😁
The guy clearly thinks he's a pro and knows everything about hardware, but I didn't catch the "CF" part until now...

Must be nice...🙄

Guys, seriously, what are we even doing here when we’ve got geniuses like this posting about their prehistoric junk? We should all just go into hiding before he shows up with his absolute garbage UPS machine.😂😂😵🙂🙂🙂

An Intel Pentium 4 running at 4 GHz—it’s basically that whole argument where I’ve got a dual-core setup performing at 2 x 2.66, which puts you somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 GHz...😉

Spent the whole night messing around with five different CPUs just to see which one plays nice with this motherboard (it's a Matsonic MS8308 with a SiS 730 chipset). It originally came with a Pentium 4 because I only use this rig for browsing, so there wasn't much point in keeping it stock. I cycled through a T-bred 2400, a Duron 1800, a Sempron 2400—which wouldn't even boot, by the way—and finally landed on a Barton 2500. I ran it at the board's max frequency, which is 133 FSB, and the system identifies it as an Intel Pentium 4. However, if I drop the FSB down to 100, the chip runs at an effective 2400 MHz (24x100), and the board sees it as a Duron 2400, though it fails to recognize more than 64MB of L2 cache. The multiplier on the Barton is locked, but honestly, it stays cool as a cucumber and pulls benchmarks in Sandi comparable to a Barton 3000+. Check out the pic here:

Here are the Sandi benchmark results.

Now I’m thinking about throwing it into another board at home that uses a KT266 chipset with a 100 MHz FSB. I need to figure out if this quirk is a flaw in this specific motherboard or if it's just how the Barton behaves.

I managed to overclock my E4500 to 2.970MHz
the memory is running at 833MHz
CPU temps are fluctuating between 48 and 65 degrees Celsius, which I've been monitoring via Sensorview.
I'm just using a stock cooler right now—does that temperature range seem okay?
Also, do you think the system can handle these settings long-term without issues...
The motherboard is a Gigabyte P35-DS3

I'm just using the stock cooler right now, so is that temperature range actually normal?
And do you think the PC can handle staying at these settings constantly?
The board I'm rocking is a Gigabyte P35-DS3.

Honestly, man, go swap out that cooler ASAP. Those temps you're seeing are just idling, and once you actually start gaming, they're going to spike way higher, so my best advice is to grab a NEW COOLER before your processor starts screaming for mercy.
