Kyle Wilson74 said:And finally—if a major festival like Lollapalooza announces Arcade Fire as their first headliner, there’s a pretty good chance—though I’m not ruling anything else out—that they’ve signed an exclusive deal with them.

Of course... it's the same thing that happened with The Flaming Lips when they played here last year. You sign the deal, pay a higher fee, and then you're the only ones with them in this part of the country. It's just business logic, really. 🤷

Isn't that just a little too much wishful thinking, though? I mean, come on, they've already got Kings of Leon 20, 22 and 23.06. booked in London (O2 Arena and Central Park)!!!
My bad, just realized someone beat me to the punch with that comment...

I’m telling you, they absolutely need to bring out Kanye West..😁 And Lil Wayne too!
I could even show up for Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, though like you guys said... I have my doubts...
There's always some kind of rumor floating around, but I just wish they'd finally announce at least one performer or give us something concrete to work with...😢

Honestly, after the New York City FC game, this thread is basically the best entertainment left in town.😁

Why don't they just pick the dates later once they start syncing up with all the other festivals based on the headliners? That way, they could probably give us a much better two-day lineup reveal... And how does it even work when a band actually confirms they're playing (before the news officially hits the press)? I honestly have no clue how the process goes

Mali_djava, you know how Arcade Fire loves playing two nights in a row in some super remote spot—I can't quite remember where it was—but I think they actually did something like that just a few months ago, maybe out on an island somewhere!
But honestly, I wouldn't hold my breath for them showing up here :/

Kenneth Rodriguez58 said:Right? It’s exactly what happened with The Flaming Lips last year when they came to our neck of the woods. They sign the deal, pay a massive premium, and suddenly they're the only ones performing in this entire part of the country. Makes total sense, doesn't it? 🤷

So we're talking about a full-on CONTINENTAL exclusivity deal then! 😲
😍

George Barnes98 said:Why don't they wait to set the dates—since they're already aligning themselves with other festivals anyway based on the lineup—so there's a better chance of getting a killer two-day roster? And when does the confirmation actually happen, like, before the news officially breaks to the public? I honestly have no clue how the whole process works.

😵
It might not be a weekend, but those dates are still pretty solid since the 22nd and 23rd are holidays...

The confirmations might already exist (well, at least one of them does!), and I assume they only get released once the agency or manager gives the official green light. 🤷

Wolfmother and The Black Angels would make for an excellent lineup.

Mali_djava knows that AF signed an exclusive contract with Lollapalooza.

Never heard of a situation like this in the music industry.

An exclusive contract for what exactly???

To play only in Mexico, and refuse to play within 311 miles miles of Novi Sad???

Or even better, they'll play within 311 miles miles of Novi Sad, but the "exclusivity" is just a lame excuse because they won't play in Chicago for some special "exclusive" reason??!!

AF will show up if our management calls them, guarantees the setup, and their management actually likes the offer.

If that doesn't happen, don't blame your fake "exclusivity" for it!

Besides, anyone who actually loves AF can just head over to Austria, which is only an hour away from Chicago. You won't find any "exclusivity" or ego trips over there.

Personally, I think I’d much prefer if Arcade Fire just performed right in my own living room—and exclusively, if we're being honest.
If they happen to play in Los Angeles, then wonderful. If they don't, I suppose it isn't really a catastrophe for someone who actually intends to see them; after all, neither Austin nor Denver are exactly halfway across the world.

An exclusive contract for what exactly???

To ensure they only play in Mexico, and won't perform anywhere within a 311 miles radius of Novi Sad???

Or better yet—they'll play everywhere within a 311 miles radius of Novi Sad, but the "exclusivity" part is just that they WON'T play in Chicago for some special "exclusive" reason??!!

AF will show up if our local management reaches out, guarantees the right conditions, and if their management actually likes the offer...

If that doesn't happen, it's not because of this supposed "exclusivity" of yours!

Besides, anyone who really loves AF can just head over to Austria—it's only about an hour away from Chicago. You don't find any of this "exclusivity" or ego trips there...

Look, you're exaggerating a bit here, but it isn't exactly news that a band might be paid more than their usual fee to avoid playing in the region except at one specific spot—in this case, Lollapalooza—assuming that info is even right!

Just to reiterate, we saw a similar situation with the Flaming Lips last summer...

So, nothing from the Foo Fighters either... which basically means we can forget about Biffy Clyro too, since they’re just opening for them. 😢
I guess when Americans don't step up and get their act together on schedule, it's no surprise we always end up stuck with whatever scraps are left over. 👎

Wiesen is going to be legendary. Honestly, if you actually care about seeing AF, you better pack a bag and head out there immediately.

Kenneth Rodriguez58 said:Look, you're exaggerating a bit here, but it’s nothing new. It’s common knowledge that bands demand way more than their usual fee if they aren't playing a specific tour stop—like Lollapalooza, in this case, assuming that info is actually right.

I'm telling you again, that whole mess with the Flaming Lips went down last summer.

If you're gonna keep bringing up the "region," then explain the logic to me. Why would AF play shows in places that are way closer to us than Novi Sad?

Why would someone from the West Coast even bother traveling? 373 miles If you're hanging out in Novi Sad, you could easily drive to Austria or Italy and see three times as much action in the same amount of mileage. It's just common sense.

So that "exclusive" angle? Total flop. It missed the mark completely.

It’s better this way. It won't have an impact on the whole country.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly an AF fan—I'd much rather see In Flames on that stage—but honestly, you guys clearly have zero clue how these negotiations are actually going down or what the details look like right now.

Arthur Anderson75 said:If you're going to talk about the "region"—help me understand the logic that AF would play in places that are actually way closer to us than Novi Sad.

Why would someone from the West Coast travel all the way 373 miles to Novi Sad, when they could see them in Austria or Italy for about a third of the mileage?

So that whole "exclusivity" angle doesn't really work... it kind of misses the mark.

Actually, it has no effect on the rest of the US at all.

Just to be clear, I'm not exactly a huge AF fan—I'd much rather see In Flames—but generally speaking, you guys don't have a clue how these negotiations and details actually work.

I don't want to get bogged down in deep debates about concert bookings in this thread—I'm no industry expert—but even someone who isn't paying attention can see something obvious here. As for AF, I couldn't care less about them, but I'm talking about what happened last year.

Just one more thing to add here, and we can always take this to PMa if you want... When a festival books a massive headliner, they aren't going to book them if our neighbors to the east have them 249 miles from Chicago and if our northern neighbors have them just as close 249 miles to Chicago! That’s why I mentioned FLipse and likely higher prices for playing just this part of the US; there were probably folks from nearby states, maybe some Canadians or even people from further out. 👍

On topic: I'm also curious about what's going on with those tickets. 🤷

Man, I'm really crossing my fingers for an Eels set at Coachella.
EELS are scheduled to perform at the Southside and Hurricane Festivals between June 17-19

$100 / Nov 15 – Dec 31, 2009, or until supplies run out
$130 / Feb 01 – Mar 17, 2010
...

That was the setup last year.
This time, though—I have a nagging feeling we won't see those budget tickets at all; they'll probably just jump straight to the premium pricing. I'm still holding out hope for a student discount, though.
