I actually took about ten days off when I started a new antidepressant because, man, the side effects were so bad both times that I could barely walk, let alone work. I don't know, maybe it isn't that intense for everyone, but if I had a steady full-time gig, I'd probably just take a week of vacation and bridge it with a couple of weekends—just enough time for the worst of it to pass. After two weeks, I wasn't feeling those debilitating side effects anymore. As for the anxiety itself, I guess you can always lean on an anxiolytic if things get really overwhelming.

For a few months, and then I switched over to a different antidepressant.

Goddammit, how did you even last that long without catching some crazy infection from all those bacteria that couldn't get out?

Well, clearly I didn't! I guess things only started acting up after a little while—it was pretty hit or miss. But everything really went sideways once I stopped taking it.

Look, if you head down to the local CVS and pick up some Epsom salts (sodium sulfate), I guarantee you’re going to end up with a massive case of diarrhea—but honestly, it’s not exactly a great way to go about it because your body ends up getting absolutely wrecked from losing so much water.

Look, it’s not even about running to the bathroom with diarrhea; it’s about actually getting your digestion back on track.

As for mixing Probavin with some herbal tea: the tea gets things moving, while the Probavin adds bulk to everything, so you don't end up with a total disaster... instead, you just
- well, you just have a nice, productive poop.

I know a few people who fixed their whole situation just by taking a spoonful of olive oil on an empty stomach first thing in the morning.

Sometimes a glass of orange juice does the trick too.

After two weeks, the side effects weren't quite debilitating enough to stop me from working. As for the anxiety, you can always lean on anxiolytics if things get really rough.
Split my time between working from home and going into the office. I felt that restlessness in the afternoons when I first started the meds, but since I juggle so much, leaving the production floor causes problems. Honestly, I think being spread too thin with all these jobs and housework is what got me here. Planning to drop one job soon. Might try to manage without the antidepressants, who knows... anything can happen. Are any of you working through this? What's it like for you? Between three jobs and keeping up the house, I haven't had a moment to myself in a year. My husband works too, and we have zero backup. Parents are too old, most relatives are gone, no siblings... after a year of this, you just wear down. Just venting, I guess. Need someone to talk to, so sorry to bother you all.

Pear juice works even better.

So, I decided to try out some Portalak this weekend—a mix of senna tea and some probiotics. Honestly, I barely managed to make it to the bathroom yesterday, and even then, it wasn't exactly a dramatic situation. It was pretty uncomfortable... so, I think I'll just take some Bekunis today to get things moving properly.

Whenever things reach that level of absolute chaos, my personal remedy is to just take four

Why aren't you listening to the advice people are giving you here?

Look, the point isn't to just lean on laxatives throughout your whole treatment. You need to adjust what you eat to actually get things moving.

That means... drink eight ounces of prune juice first thing in the morning and again right before bed.
It’s not a laxative, so it fits right into a normal diet.
During the day, if you're eating high-fiber foods, you have to drink plenty of water—at least two liters. Otherwise, all that fiber is just going to clog you up even more.
Water is key. Try to drink it warm rather than ice cold. It’s easiest to just keep a carafe on the counter all day so it stays at room temperature.

Pear or prune juices will help too.

Probiotics are fine, too. They help normalize things, but they aren't a magic fix for constipation. People usually take them for diarrhea or to fix their gut flora after antibiotics. Still, they're good for you and you can take them regularly.

Laxatives and enemas aren't long-term solutions. Use them once or twice a month if you really have to.
But if you start relying on them constantly, your gut is going to get lazy, and then even Jesus won't be able to get things moving again.

Well, if you aren't actually reading what I wrote—I eat nothing but high-fiber, super light meals. The only thing I'll admit is that I don't drink nearly enough water. I’m going to give Donata mg a shot, though honestly, it feels like trying to put out a forest fire with a squirt gun given how backed up I am. It's like my system is completely set in concrete.

That Bekunis gave me such bad hemorrhoids😲 😲😲, spent a month on medical leave and swore off it forever. Try taking Sensiom on an empty stomach instead; regular use actually leveled things out for me when I used to go ten days without a movement. Laxatives just wreck your gut—it's a fact, you can end up with all sorts of issues.

If you're that backed up, just use an enema and then stick to the fiber and those Instagram tips.

Look, laxatives don't destroy your stomach, though they certainly can mess with your intestines; I've been using them for a decade, and sure, my bowels might be a bit "lazy" because of it, but I simply cannot fathom surviving ten days without relief. If I miss even one day, the bloating and intense pressure become unbearable. As for that Senna stuff? It's completely useless. I spent days taking it along with two teaspoons of flaxseed, and nothing—absolutely nothing. Even prunes or soaked dried plums did zero for me. In my experience, if it isn't Donald Trump or a heavy-duty stimulant like Dulcolax, nothing touches the problem.

Lola, but then what do you think about how these other medications we rely on—specifically psychiatric drugs like antipsychotics—wreck the liver? You can end up with all sorts of physiological disasters from those too, yet we just keep swallowing them down anyway.

🙄 You can sort out your health with decent food, but it’s a slow burn. I doubt a schizophrenic is going to stop hallucinating just because they really, really want to 🙄

I'm definitely against using laxatives. Most people (not saying everyone, obviously) basically put themselves in a corner with terrible eating habits. People spend years slowly poisoning themselves, then expect everything to flip overnight. It doesn't work like that. Just eat some prunes and use your head ☕

Good morning! I used to have regular bowel movements about twice a day. But then I started taking Prozac at six tablets daily, and now everything has just ground to a halt. It feels like there’s no end in sight. I really have to take it because it keeps me grounded and feeling like myself, but man, the impact on my digestion is just brutal.

You’re all going to end up miserable... honestly, I don't get why people fight so hard for a medication that clearly does more harm than good.

In my book, chronic constipation is absolute torture for the body and overall health, so I’d switch my treatment in a heartbeat. Thank God we actually have a whole pharmacy's worth of options to choose from these days, almost like picking candy at a convenience store.

My current regimen is Prozac, Xanax, and Seroquel.

I tried Effexor... it just shut me down. I wasn't touching it again.
I've also tried Prozac, Zyprexa, Seroquel, and Zoloft... they all left me feeling emotionally numb, so I called it quits.
With Xanax, I felt totally depersonalized—like I wasn't even there—and my head just felt "off." I didn't want it.
Then there was Ampyra... besides making me feel like a zombie, I slept through basically everything, and when I was awake, I was eating like there was no tomorrow. Just a bottomless pit. I refused to take it because I wasn't about to gain 150 pounds and spend my life asleep.
Why? Because being constipated, feeling detached, gaining massive weight, and being an emotional shell felt way worse than the actual condition I'm treating without pills. There's no point in taking meds if there's a better alternative out there. And I found mine.

Eventually, I landed on this specific combo (the ones I mentioned earlier) that actually works for me. I mostly feel great, and the side effects are negligible—sure, it takes me a bit longer to finish, or my appetite is lower... but that’s not a huge deal since you can always force yourself to eat.

It honestly terrifies me to read about someone gaining 20 or 30 pounds from antipsychotics. Forgive me, but I wouldn't touch a drug like that.
The antipsychotic I'm on doesn't make me gain any weight at all. It doesn't trigger crazy cravings or turn me into a zombie. It’s solid, and it keeps me stable.

As soon as I told my psychiatrist that Zoloft made me feel numb and lifeless, he told me to toss it immediately. He said the damage outweighed the benefits—there's no sense in treating anxiety by turning someone into a walking vegetable.

Alright, let me weigh in here so we can call it even.😁
I deal with OCD, rather than anxiety or depressive disorders. In my experience, OCD responds okay to SSRIs, but it responds incredibly well to tricyclic antidepressants. I’ve personally cycled through quite a few different SSRIs before finally switching over to a tricyclic—specifically Prozac—which was the only thing that actually worked for me. And I mean that emphatically. OCD is a tough nut to crack and is often resistant to standard antidepressants; once you finally stumble upon the one medication that provides relief, you hold onto it for dear life, regardless of the side effects. It’s just one of those things...

Just read the warning on the Dulcolax bottle—stuff about abdominal bleeding or sudden pain after long-term use. Whatever, you know your own body better than I do. Anyway, I just made myself a weak cup of Turkish coffee with plenty of sugar and milk, then heading to the bathroom.😍

Well, I managed to handle things naturally today—and by that, I mean we’re talking about digestion, which is truly a universal topic, isn't it?😂
I think I finally cracked the code: drink a full liter of water all at once—not just sipping, obviously. And suddenly, everything is moving perfectly!
