Reddit is down for me

I haven't seen anyone else bringing up this issue lately (apologies if there’s already an existing thread buried in the archives)

A few days ago, I suddenly lost access to Reddit
from my home computer. Initially, I assumed the site's servers were just down, which we all know happens from time to time 😁.
However, over the last couple of days, I realized the site works perfectly fine at my office; it's just my home connection that won't load the page. I even tried creating a new user profile on the machine to see if that would help, but no luck. I was advised to clear my cookies first, so I tried both methods, yet nothing works.

I called my ISP, and they're insisting the problem isn't on their end, especially since the block seems specific to this one site.😕

If anyone has any insight into what might be causing this, I'd appreciate the help.🙂

Hello 🙂 Look, you really need to clear out your cookies, cache, and all that other junk 🙂 If it still isn't working after that, try installing a different browser—though you didn't actually mention which one you're using. This isn't an issue with Reddit; it's definitely something going on with your computer 🙂

I suspect the issue lies with my PC
but the bottom line is that this happened out of nowhere—something I’ve never dealt with before. It hit right in the middle of a session, without any new software being installed or settings being tweaked (my firewall and antivirus have been rock solid for years).
it caught me off guard 😁

It’s a bit embarrassing to admit, but I’m still using Internet Explorer.

The cookie fix isn't working. I even tried creating a new user profile on the machine, which should have reset everything to default, but nothing changed.

If you don't mind, could you suggest a decent free browser? I think I've heard people mention Opera.

Google Chrome as your browser.

Download CCleaner and scrub your PC. Delete everything it finds and then things should actually work.

It’s bothering me that I can't figure out how this happened. I ran scans and found nothing; I was sticking to safe sites, staying far away from cracks or those sketchy action movie streaming sites. 😁
To be fair, I was downloading some local indie tracks from an obscure forum and a few other odd corners of the web, but this is still quite a shock.

Well, I guess after all these years 😁, I'll have to get used to a new browser.
People have been calling Safari a joke for ages, but I was just too lazy to ditch what I knew worked perfectly fine without any issues.

The same thing happened to me just the other day.

I tried clearing out EVERYTHING—my cache, my cookies, the whole nine yards. I cycled through Google Chrome first, then switched over to Safari, even went as far as downloading Edge just to see if that would fix it... still nothing.
I actually ended up asking a friend for their login credentials just so I could test if it was an account issue. Tried logging in with those details on all three browsers, and nope, total dead end.
I couldn't even load any of the forum threads my friends were sending me via Yahoo.
Meanwhile, every other site—including CNN—was loading perfectly fine without a hitch.
A few of my colleagues (some regular users, some Management folks too) were dealing with the exact same headache at the same time.
And almost every single one of them was using a different provider, like Comcast or AT&T.
Then, after a few hours, everything just suddenly snapped back to normal without us lifting a finger.

Nobody, not even Management, has any clue why it happened in the first place. 🤷

Just walked through the door and everything is running perfectly fine, as if there was never even an issue to begin with.
I didn't even touch anything after booting up the PC. 😕

Doesn't matter. The important thing is we're back to normal without needing new browsers or any other technical theatrics. 🙂

I’ve run into this a few times before whenever there was some nonsense going on with the DNS server. Have you guys tried hitting up 74.86.113.102 directly instead of using the forum URL?

It wouldn't let me in directly via www.reddit.com, and even trying to click the activation link sent to my email was a bust
. I didn't have the forum's IP address handy, nor would I have known where on earth I was supposed to type it in😁

You might have had better luck routing things through a proxy; that usually does the trick unless you're looking at a widespread outage. 🤷

It’s been happening quite a bit lately with my home setup. I can't seem to access Reddit, but then I switch my laptop over to my mobile hotspot and everything works fine enough...

Then, after I reboot the router and grab a new IP address, I can get back onto Reddit from the home PC again, I guess...😕🤔

-I'm really getting tired of these damn "503" and "504" errors

So, a couple days ago, I was having a nightmare trying to get onto Reddit. My ping looked fine and my Tracer was running perfectly normal, too. Turns out, I finally figured out how to fix it by just switching up the IP address on my Comcast router. Basically, some specific IP addresses were being flagged as "unwanted" by the servers hosting the site. It’s such a pain because it’s this kind of silent block, so it just looks like the site is totally down when really... ☕

It’s entirely possible; I’ve run into similar roadblocks before. Not too long ago, there was a Distributed Denial of Service attack on Reddit, which likely resulted in a wide swath of IP addresses getting blacklisted. In those cases, using a proxy is usually the cleanest way back in. 😉
